ich wette auf den Tribünen sitzen alle bauern von der Kolchose ......und die sind alle mit den Esel gekommen und eine Banane durften sie auch bekommen diese zurück geschleuderten untermenschen.....ta..ta..ta
I loved this!! The only thing missing was Doris Day singing "Kay Sera.." I wished to see missiles, rockets, lasers & maybe some spaceships. But these kids had a childhood & helped their families - unlike the hyper-sexualised monsters we're raising today.
Wow they wheeled out Brezhnev. I'm glad they were able to resussicate him and bring him back to life. After the Olympic ceremony he was spoon fed his dinner, received CPR to keep his heart going and he went to sleep - which was clinical death!
Thank you so much for posting this mgpoliveira, just as everyone knows, the United States and their allies boycotted these Games in an act that can only be considered completely pathetic and despicable. Political standoffs should not be brought to the Games. Thanks Jimmy Carter for having deprived countless athletes the experience of competing at the Moscow Olympic Games and possible medals. It is indeed sad that instead of being the mature one, the Soviet Union shamefully followed suit in 1984.
These games were a severe casualty of the American boycott.Sadly these games have too many negative political overtones and statements.A comment someone had posted previously was that Many more world records were achieved in Moscow than in Los Angeles. Now ask yourself was this the INTENT and purpose of the Olympic motto and ideals?Maybe a more sensible realization is the UNITY, SPORTSMANSHIP and Friendship of the Olympic spirit is what we should foster and approach!
@YagoDiego You seem to have this "FIXATION" and a hidden agenda with Soviet and East German athletic WORLD RECORDS! Higher, Stronger, Faster-indeed! Athletes from those two countries made MANY ACCOMPLISHED WORLD RECORDS but AGAIN-AT WHAT PRICE! MANY have suffered from too many years of steroid abuse at the hands of their respective sports doctors and now suffer from numerous AFFLICTIONS with their health! THIS IS NOT THE EMBODIMENT/PHILOSOPHY OR IDEALS OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES!
"Citius, altius, fortius" justifies only those means framed within the Olympic Ideals. Likewise the GDR, Soviet and others, American athletes extensively used enhancing drugs in the 80's and 90's. Some of them did not survive to tell about it (F. Griffin). Full U.S. laboratories (BALCO) produced new drugs (THG...) at commercial scales. Among their clients, J.C. Hunter and M. Jones have been legally punished, others have been also stripped of their Olympic medals: A. Pettigrew, Crystal Cox...
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! and, why not, nostalgic. Boys and girls with perhaps the most classical toys: the stick horse and the doll, toys that boosted physical activity, imagination and creativity unlike so many of the present-day techno toys that alienate children. The Misha cubs were delightful and fun. The gymnastics routines: talk about athletic, devoted and healthy children. A ceremony like this with children of our days? Maybe a bunch of lined-up fat alienated creatures playing the Xbox.

Yeah, Beijing was grand and colossal, but these were kids! Beijing made me say WOW! But these children filled me with a sense of joy! Their skill en masse was impressive, but any little mistakes just made it seem more honest.
I think Beijing seriously must have gotten some of their ideas from the Moscow ceremonies, particularly the human towers.
Thanks so much for posting this. My stupid government decided to boycott these games, so we couldn't see them on TV.

yes I think it was a consensus of people like me, who have formal education. You can count the number of people on one hand who actually believe what you said. Son go fly a kite or whatever it is that you do, moron
This sort of discussion will always prove unfruitful.
What I can say is that the more formal your education is the more formal your thought may become, making you unable to see things from another point of view.

What happened behind the scenes is irrelevant, what does matter is the solidarity shown by the boycotting nations helped bring the the evil empire of the Soviet Union and make the world a better place. These are facts that can't be debated, it is as sure as the world is round.
Rather more Olympic and World records were established in Moscow 80 than in LA 84. Several European countries allowed their sportmen taking part in the Moscow Games under the Olympic Flag. Several American Protectorates and colonies were then absolutely irrelevant for the competitions´ results. As well as during the invasion of Irak, the US created the impression that many countries follow them for justifying their policies before their own people.
@mgpoliveira : Must you make comments like that? Politics and sports don't mix well and the saddest part is that TOO many countries boycotted these games. Also I don't want tospeculate the 'IF'S" had the USA and allies had competed in regards to total medal count.Alas, it is time to move forward and hopefully no more political involvement in future Olympic games!!!!!
@pakkmann In Moscow-1980 were set 36 new world records while in L.A.-1984 only 12. What a pity that the participation of American Samoa, American Virgin Islands, "Sandwich Islands" and other "friends" of the U.S. did not strengthen the sports results of the event in a significant way.
Wow this is a trip. It's so Soviet, but it has disco music and blonde dolls and.... it's just funny. Of course the kids were all very good! Opening ceremonies were so much more humble then.
