hey johnny, this is dave, not to nitpick, but for the people who don't know much about lobsterboat racing, world's fastest working lobsterboat is "Starlight Express" (58.9 mph) 2010 portland lobsterboat races.(world"s fastest lobsterboat-Foolish Pleasure,72.8 mph,Galen Alley, 2011 Jonesport-Beals lobsterboat races) and as alphabetty asked, where is all the footage of the races from this outfit!??

holy smokes this is heated! first off if you pay your 20 bucks i don't care if you have a punt or half a mil wrapped up in a gas hog, everyone should have the same chance at the hat prizes. That being said, a couple places had "peakers" drawing the names, and that's wrong. If you got a work boat, and win or lose with it be proud of that, but don't hate the fast boys, because most, me included come to see what they can do. Now that Galen has clearly broke 70mph, can it be admitted Camel did 68.5?

idk if it counts as the new record but the foolish pleasure did 70.3 mph at the eastport races on september 12th. cant wait to see what everyone does over the winter for next year. should be the best year for racing from the word going around.

Yeah i agree with the prize thing, the fast gas boats that don't go lobstering should not be able to get the prizes like rope traps and so on just the money thats it!

I am not just picking on the Gas boats either there are a few diesel boats that are not lobsterman either but yet walk away with lobstertraps, rope and other prizes. To me that is just wrong

@harborfire17 lol!!! no in 1903 i would say they were using sails and oars. i like work boats and gas boats i cheer for all my grandfathers designs no matter what class they are in. the gas boats already have there own class, class d the big boy class and i hear moose a bec races might have a split worlds fastest this year, one for work boats and one for modified boats.

Wait a minute...How did lobsterboat racing get started again. I believe some people need a history lesson. Apparition II, Uncle's U.F.O, Misty, Motivation, The Babe, Shore thing II back when Andy Carter owned it, and the list keeps going of REAL working boats doing well over 20,30 some even 40. I am not saying that the High budget guys shouldn't be able to race. Let them race in the modified class.

Most of the boats are real working lobster boats. The most they ever change is the wheel before a race. According to the rule they are supposed to have a hauler hooked up, but you can take the belt off or clutch disengaged. The davit is supposed to at least be in the boat as well. Just use common sense if the boat has a big roaring gas motor and looks to be light weight more than likely it is a non-working lobsterboat.

I'm not asking about the boat owners ,I'm asking ,are these the boats and engines they use to go lobstering ? like the day after the race ,can they just throw bait and ice on these boats the way they are ,and go fisjing, without having to spend a week installing winches ? reaplacing props and even engines ? or these are boats that look like the real thing ,but weight only 8K lbs and use only to cruise and race once a year?

Foolish Pleasure is a faster version of the Lorna R. I would rather watch working lobster boats owned buy guys that actually go lobstering.

LOL you got that right fastest diesel!! Foolish pleasure is the worlds fastest lobster boat, if your in Pemaquid this year you will see him smash his record of 64.1MPH this year, i have already seen him do 66MPH so i know he will even beet that, its going to sweet!!

Thats awesome! Heard about it through Diesel Power Mag. Lobstermen are awesome, great historic job! And you race boats with diesel engine! How awesome is that! I love the feeling of getting out in the open, throttling up and hearing the diesel roar!
