Could I plug it in the Instrument port and record or do I strictly need to have the XLR?? Thanks in advance...

  • Hi there, my mum just bought a 5.1ch Digital Speech Control Amplifier (AMP-510USB), and i just realised that there is where i can plug a mic into, so am wondering wether if i bought a shure sm58 it would work.

I just want to find out if the shure sm58 would work with the amplifier described above, thanks.

  • i hav the same interface, but i need to know if i am correct in this following statement

: one mic cable is plugged into the phantom power input frim the phantom power suplly to the mic and from the phantom power supply another mic cable is plugged from the phantom power supply to the interface correct!?

  • what's the cheapest 48V phantom power?

i only need like one input.

  • @QuietEthic Get a ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp. It's $30. You get a tube preamp and it has phantom power.

  • Ok, I have the Lexicon Alpha, running into my HP Pavillion laptop, and using Cakewalk Sonar 7 Homestudio. First, I was getting lots of dropouts, it would just cut out within seconds of trying to record. Now, I have my drivers set to the Lexicon and it's recording without dropouts. My issue now is that, I have to plug headphones into the Lexicon, but all I hear is static, pops and clicks, with an occassional (less than one second) clean sound of the click/recorded audio track.

  • I don't think it's a faulty Lexicon, because I've plugged into the headphones jack before while using MAGIX music maker, and it was fine. Any ideas? Possible settings I may need to consider?

  • I am also using the MXL 990 with the Lexicon Alpha, but with a 1 channel phantom power supply. I have been using Soundbooth CS4 to record.

The issue I have is that it's extremely quiet in the headphones and on the computer. I tried the mic out on a camera and it was much better. Any idea what might be causing this?

  • where can i get it

  • I noticed that there arent any great acoustics in your room that you're in. It'll really help if you want to get even better quality.

  • fuck... I bought this soundcard and it's so bad... It doesn't have phantom power :( Ok that is my fault cause I didn't check it, I am so stupid. BUT the soundcard also doesn't work with Skype!!! When I turn on Skype, it starts to make really bad noises... I have to turn off EVERY program what uses the soundcard to make the noise stop. Do you have the same problem?

  • 0:58 what's that thing called?

  • can u recommend a good condenser mic that doesnt need phantom power? and if u dont have moniters can u like set it up for the output to go to the headphones

  • if u dont have moniters just sum headphones will it work?

  • so the lexicom makees the audio sound rich like u hear it radio?

  • if my mixer has phantom power and my interface doesn't

do i have to buy the phantom power unit?

  • Comment removed

  • i would only buy behringer stuff for cheap and beginner recordings

  • man, how did you fix the latency problem? i think you know what im talking about, cause when you put low latency on the asio mixer the sound comes like shit in certain time... and if you put it on the other side (right) the sound comes delayed... and then i tried asio4all and it works... but sometimes it starts to fuck up... and i want to have a happy recording session

  • for some reason my audio coming through the lexicon is only going through my right speaker. any help?

  • @wasabeeguy theres a button in the middle of the alpha if you push it will become stereo... and if you are monitoring trough a software try to put it on mono (left or right) i think that could help...

  • @punkrockpax ive tried tht button too and it just stays the same

  • @punkrockpax also, its just with my mic

  • @wasabeeguy maybe, but all the mics are mono... well almost all, hehe but there can be a function on the software that can help you to fix it. wich software are you using?

  • Get Pro Tools 8 LE. It's awesome. You get a digidesign mbox2 with 2 DI, 2 Line (TRS) and 2 XLR inputs. You also get phantom power.

  • wow youre hot!

  • I'm assuming that the lexicon Alpha doesn't provide phantom power. I have the lexicon alpha and just got those mics (odd coincidence i know) So i absoulutly HAVE to get a phantom power supply?

  • @CHuMMproductions If its a condesnor mic..you NEED phantom power, otherwise it wont work, at all.

  • @RNRDOLL yeah i figured that out, my bro's all in the recording business.

  • Hey how exactly do you set up the mxl 990?? im so confused. i just bought one. what all do i need to set it up? and how much get back as soon as you can thanks

  • help me pleas i have the lamda lexicon. i have my mixer

but the lexicon does not have an in and out inputs. how can i mix this i also have the same mic u do. i want to hook up my mic to my mixer mixer to the lexicon to my computer

  • I have a question about the Phantom Power supply. So the XLR cable from the mic goes into the input of the phantom power then do you have to buy another XLR cable for the output and connect it to the audio interface? Greatly appresciated if you would reply. Thanks.

  • @robs70986987 .....I got the same problem.I love how this thing sounds.and for the price its great.just cant solve the damn latency problems. If you figure out a solution pls let me know.

  • Hey i have a question!.. that lexicon alpha works with pro tools?? thank you!!

  • Hi, I Have The Same Mic and same interface and im using Cubase le 4. the problem is i Can't Record anything from the mic but when i put a dymanic mic it works can u help me please?

  • just fyi a small diaphragm condensor is not a "guitar mic"

It can be used for that, but they have many other uses such as drum overheads, stereo recording, etc

  • How is the Lexicon on latency?

  • just got this interface and i have a huge delay when i try to record

i adjusted the latency but things still arent working out

  • i have the same mic and interface!

but hey im trying to setup my interface to Cubase LE and it wont pick up any sound. help?

  • @TheMotoFreak thats the same problem i had so i just started using audacity lol

  • hey i have the lexicon alpha and am trying to use it wit cubase it records but when i try to play it back no sound plays back any help?

  • make sure that when you are recording you can see the levels recording in the track you have selected. next you need to make sure that the monitor output level is turned up or else you wont be able to hear anything, if you havent read your manual then it will require some tinkering until you get the right setting

  • @Tech1O1 i have the same prolem. i have AKG Perception Mic & Alpha Lexicon. i have the 3 pin cable that connects the mic 2 the alpha lexicon & i have USB cable that connects 2 the comp USB port. i use mixcraft 5 to make music bt my mic doesn't work. i have installed the program/ changed sound card setup so many times from tutorials on here & nothing works. tried voice recognition test & cant hear anything of my voice. i hear popping/ crackling in mixcraft but it's not being made from the mic

  • i also wanted to know if it's something im missing. do i need phantom power as well? do i need more mic leads for the input/ output slots.. i dnt know anyone who could help & google/ youtube/ my install CD hasnt helped. i have a HP Windows Vista comp with extra hard drive. sometimes wen i mess around with the sound i hear feedback but like i said its not coming from the mic it's from the speakers i believe and i can record sound made from youtube and itunes wen it comes out the comp speakers :(

  • @wtfbro1993, I have the same problem! Its annoying!

  • @wtfbro1993 yeas man this what u have to do. its anoying! divice set up ,sep up lexicon. reset and then ok and go back to recording

  • @wtfbro1993

devices -> device setup channel -> and then change something I don't know how to explain., or you have to plug your stereo into the interface

    sorry for bad english

  • you look like Ian from smosh. lol

  • PLEASE DO ANOTHER VIDEO JUST LIKE THIS, WHERE YOU GET INTO A LITTLE MORE DETAIL OF WHERE THE WIRE CONNECTS TO, HOW YOU HAVE THE HEADPHONES SET UP WHILE YOUR RECORDING (THE PART WHEN YOUR DOING YOUR VOCALS AND YOU HAVE YOUR HEADPHONES ON). WHERE EVERYTHING GOES, SOME TIPS ON A COUPLE CHEAPER INTERPHASES. Your vid has been the most help ful, the way you just showed where all the wires went was great. ThaNK YOU

  • Hey mate, i got a lexicon alpha back in the day, But i never got it to work. I get monitor sound, but cubase wont record the sound.. Can you make a video or somthing with how to set it up? like, from the box to recording? Thanks : )

  • Does the Lexicon Alpha provide phantom power?

  • no it doesnt

  • No, it doesnt :(

  • @ECgod77 you can buy some phantom power supply like Samson S-Phantom and connect it like: mic -> Samson -> Lexicon.

  • good video. i was just wandering, i have a USB condensor microphone, does the lexicon allow you to plug a usb mic into it?..and could i then plug the lexicon into the computer?

  • no i wont allow that, why would u need to lexicon if u already have a usb mic

  • ok thanks for replying...well the thing is, i didnt think i would need one because the mic is great quality, but i get clipping (distortion) at times....does a lexicon not help prevent this?

  • unfortunately no, the only thing to prevent that would be with the software or by sound the recording space.

  • what do you mean by "sound the recording space"?

  • there should be a "proofing" in between "sound" and "the" as in sound proofing the recording space

  • can you explain alittle more, does this mean things like sound absororption and stuff or what

  • well it depends on what the distortion is, some of the problem with home recording set ups comes into play when people plug their mic in and record right next to the computer or other electronic devices. The buzz u are hearing could be from the electronic devices, or simply from the cable, or possible from the recording software you are using, try changing a few things up to attempt to identify the issue

  • k well i record with my mic through the narrate timeline thing on windows movie maker.the file is saved as WMA.i import this into mixcraft.i then save the finished song as wma with narrate timeline again through either mono out or wave out mix. if i save it with the volume kinda low then its fine theres no distortion but when i save the song so that volume is equal to that of a normal song i get distortion especially on parts of the song which i naturally sing louder into the mic.

  • ive tried lots of things like mic positioning but maybe i need to try somethin different than recording and saving song with narrate timeline, any reccomendations?

  • I would say that it has to do with your recording software

  • what recording software do you use? i use mixcraft

  • reason or cakewalk

  • k thanks

  • how would this mic handle yelling and screaming for something like voice acting? (with a pop filter in front of it of course.... )

  • yes but dont skimp on the pop filter, some people think if they stretch pantie hose over a hanger it makes for a good pop filter, spend the $20 to $30 and get a nice piece of equipment, also make sure that your levels are balanced for the style you are doing, to ensure that you dont hit the peak volume and end up with a buzzing sound

  • if i use the mxl 990 will i need a preamp? i have a very simple m-audio interface with a lxr input. so am i set with just the mic? thanks to anyone who responds

  • you will need a phantom power unit to power the mic

  • ya your right thanks, i'm set to go now

    thanks

  • btw i have a really cheap basic setup (cheap mic to cheap mixer to computer) right now.i have some clear recordings but it has background hiss

seeing as how im a kid without a job

which do you think would be better to buy first?

    the mics or the interface?

  • well it depends on what the hiss is from, there a few reasons u will get that electronic hissing sound, check the mic chords to make sure they arent all tangled together, then make sure the levels on ur mixer are not up too high then make sure that the hiss isnt from other electronics in the room such as ur computer, i would get a new mic

  • nice clear audio

    i need money Dx

  • what are your thoughts on the lexicon alpha? i am looking to start a small home studio to run off my macbook pro

  • well with the drop in prices i would actually recommend picking up the Lexicon Omega, it has more inputs for mics and instruments, i think you can get them at Guitar Center on clearance for like $105 or something like that, i would pic one up quick cuz its a handy bit of equipment.

  • I am thiking in buying a lexicon alpha, is this a good audio interface? Also, can I use a phantom power device connected to the lexicon and record with condenser mics? thanks.

  • its a nice piece of hardware for starting out, and yes u can use phantom power units through the alpha

  • i just bought an mxl v67mic and an m-audio audiobuddy dual mic preamp..u think the lexicon would be good for me.. i want to hook the mic up to the pre amp and have the pre amp goin into the lexicon.. you think quality will be pretty good.

  • I think the quality would be nice, if u need multiple input i would recommend the Lexicon Omega which is the step up, it has a few inputs that u can balance the levels on

  • You mentioned you have an 8 input mixer....but you also use a phantom power unit? I'm assuming your mixer does not have phantom power?

  • Yea my mixer is pretty old but it gets most jobs done. I havent had the money to buy a nice mixer yet because I want to get a synth

  • i have this and it works well and comes with cuebase too its well for luring and getting to know hands on recording

  • instead of using a phantom power unit could i just plug the mics into my shitty mixer and run the line out into the lexicon? or would that make it sound bad?

  • The phantom power unit is there to actually run the mics, like a battery, if you mixer has phantom power then you will be fine

  • yeah man I know, I just didn't want to buy the phantom power box if I could use my mixer, which has phantom power

  • So you just plug to mic into the lexicon alpha thing, than you plug the lexicon alpha thing into the computer. Why you need the phantom power?

  • I need phantom power for the mics, the lexicon interface doesn't have power for the mics

  • Is your setup good for music? Like do you get clear vocals?

  • hi thanks for the video. i was wondering if you could separate the inputs that are on the back of the lexicon or are they all linked as one when you record. thanks again

  • they can be separated to equalize the inputs

  • o alright so after you record you can edit the two tracks separately or do you mean you can just change the volumes beforehand

  • so if i wanted to hook that Lexicon Alpha bad boy to a mixer, would i run my two xlr main outputs on the back of the mixer into the 1/4" inputs on the lexicon? or would i use the red/white RCA? i'm just wondering what the superior method is.

  • yea real emo with my American Eagle shirt, I know i have long hair, but I cut it......kinda

  • Hi u seem to u know a lot about home studio and microphones, i was wondering can recommend a good microphone for home studio, need it mostly for vocals singing rnb/soul/soul.

    thanx in advance

  • if you are looking for a good vocal mic the mic I use has excellent quality and is very affordable, the MXL 990/991 mic set is a little under $100
