My son Sean died at age 22 from his ADD medicine Ritalin that he became addicted to. I think my divorce hurt him, and his shame of this supid label ADD and later an addict were too much for him to bear, yet he went for help and we have nothing to do to help them except lie to them. Rehab is only good for 20-30% for 1 year. Please stay away from these addictive ADHD drugs. I think we need to do more research to save lives. Brain scans help. Google the Study on Ritalin by Dr Yong Kim of the NIDA.

In Holland we have been ding for years what dr. Mate is trying to do... Users are not procecuted , we focus on educating ppl rather than telling what not to do , long term addicts can get clean needles under supervision etc. Look up the statistics on drug related problems in Holland and tyne US...

@LOLMAN22 Its the same basic thing, orgasm and having fun playing video games both activate the reward center of your brain and release dopamine so you feel good, just like drugs. And then if somebody keeps doing these things even if they start to have bad consequences then that's the definition of addiction. The whole idea Mate is talking about is once we figure out who we are and what we want to do with our lives, and then do it, then you feel great normally and don't need the external stuff

I agree with almost everything this man states. The one thing I am 100% sure that does NOT halt brain development is Heroin. Opiates simply don't prevent the brain from developing. Long term use may alter the brains chemistry, but not one single brain cell is destroyed from therapeutic doses of Heroin/Morphine. You can't just lump all of these drugs like Benzos, Alcohol, Cocaine, Amp's and Opiates into a single 'brain development-inhibitor subgroup' like that. Gabor must do more research.

Did you listen to yourself? You said there was no problem in the beginning. Tobacco, etc were used and not abused. It was widely available. There were no laws or govt agencies like you want.

So just let it be. End the prohibition and let govt. get the heck out of controlling individual behavior. You are wrong in your create a govt. agency conclusion. We do not need nor want your agency where YOU decide who gets what. Just let it be.

Did you listen yourself? Healthy people do not get addicted easily. By definition addicts continue their behavior even though it is harmfull to them. They need help to live the way they really want. Other people might need protection from negative effects. That is somewhat different from being a controlfreak.

It is a difficult guestion if and how 'harmfull' substances like sugar, tobacco, cocaine or arsenic should be controlled. War on addicts is not the best way.
