One must follow a singing line my ol' groupie, and clearly she doesn't, the sounds she makes comes out of her throat and the back of it, not pure sound as ANY singing should be.

First off, floor jansen has a very powerful and beautiful voice, one of the best female singer in metal, she studied singing, wow, she can really sing LIVE, showing her talent, interpretation and the passion and love she feels for music and for singin. SHE'S NOT A PROFESSIONAL OPERA SINGER, she's a DRAMATIC COLORATURA SOPRANO, she can sing, pop, rock, metal even opera.

@migueliwi Dramatic Soprano actually. A little more powerful and a little less range. Though she is about four octaves where as I believe on average dramaic sopranos fall to around three.

i love floor but this aria is not for her type of voice at all! she is a dramatic soprano and this aria is made for lyric soprano voice. Why? because dramatic soprano is a deeper voice than lyric soprano which is a high-pitched voice. Its not that she is bad, is just that this song is not made for her voice...maybe she should sing more dramatic roles because her high notes in this song, don't emphasize her abilities for singing various types of music.

And Floor IS a real opera singer btw, just because she uses her opera training to sing in metal bands doesn't mean she's not singing real opera. She's one of the few metal sopranos that actually sings the style well.

Ella tampoco tiene mucha agilidad, menos q Tarja incluso. @klahuss Por eso mismo, la soprano de coloratura tiende a ser por excelencia más ágil. Tarja tiene más entrenamiento que Floor, pero claro la ágilidad tampoco es su fuerte. Pero creo que comparando O mio babbino caro interpretado por ambas, gana Tarja sin duda. No digo que Tarja sea superior a Floor en todo, eso sería cegarme como muchos fanaticos. Revisa los videos de Tarja "operatic performance 1, 2 y 3" que están en finlandes. Ahí te daras cuenta cuales son los fuertes de Tarja.

@Amaranth2020 Bueno, creo que hay algo que no entiendes, si no estoy mal, la coloratura es una habilidad que adquieren las sopranos o vocalistas de opera en un proceso, no es una clasificacion como tal, Floor Jansen, si no estoy mal vendria siendo soprano lirica o dramatica, no estoy muy seguro, pero bueno, la coloratura no se la encuentro muy notable por el hecho de que no tiene mucha trayectoria para desarrollarla!

La coloratura como dices, en efecto no es una gama vocal, pues tanto la soprano lyrico, ligera, lyrico-ligera o dramática podrían ser mencionadas como sopranos de coloratura o sopranos q pueden emplear la coloratura (Pero esta ultima forma d mencionar no suena bn, es la correcta pero no suena bn) siempre y cuando tenga la capacidad de realizarla. @klahuss Con respecto a Mirusia pienso q al igual q muchas cantantes q realizan giras con André Rieu, ella s buena. Es la proxima Sarah Brightman c podría decir, claro x lo del crossover. No podría decir que su técnica s envidiable, xq para eso tendría q saber más sobre ella y d momento solo le he escuchado algunas interpretaciones, cómo "ave maría" d Schubber y "time to say good bye" Andrea Bocelli. I wouldn't even call her hefty. For being 6 feet fall, I'd say she would need to weigh at least 160 lbs or so in order to have some luscious curves. Her body type is perfect for her height. Women like her and Katy Perry should be role models for young girls. You're not supposed to deprive yourself totally of food and become skinny, bone-protruding walking toothpicks.
Everyone also seems to be forgetting that she sings in a powerful tone mostly so it's gonna be powerfull when she belts out some of those notes. That's a good opera vocalist for you. And yes she is based in metal, but does not need that as an excuse because this was not that bad at all. Infact it was superb. She may not be the best opera vocalist in the world, but she deffinately is one and fantastic one at that. And the wide range she has is very spectacular and unique!
She is not hefty! Why would someone say that. She is not super skinny which I always thought was a plus when people realized that in the real world that does not look right. She is around 6 foot give or take an inch and muscular and slender. Where does that bring in hefty?? And she is also pretty much the most talented vocalist ever. She can sing verry powerfully and in almost any way. from deep tones(I think contralto but not for sure), high sapranos, do the same scale all over again in opera

@SalandFindles Jesus, I thought she was 5'11 or something. But I do agree, she needs more weight to balance it out. Also, a little trick in showbiz is that the camera DOES add pounds, which is why so many celebrities go for that awful anorexic look.

Es la mejor pero deseo que no tenga diferencias con la banda after forever(me gusta!, es muy buena las mezclas de sonidos y arreglos que le fueron dando a todos los discos y eso es lo mas dificil de llegar), y que vuelva!!! lo mismo con lisa en xandria!!! molesta que siempre aparece alguien o algo y que desarme lo bueno!!! y otra cosa que me molesto es un poco mas de difusion para cuando esten en argentina o mejor combinar con bandas como Rata Blanca como hizo nightwish!!!

I have so much respect for this woman. When I was 13 years old I used to listen to her (After Forever). She really inspired me. that's why now I love opera so much (though she's not an opera singer) But I must say this is really bad, her high notes are bad.. it seems that she has nodules or something, she screams the notes, there's no control or support.. of course If I had watched this when I was 13 years old, then I would say it's incredible. Espero que mejore enserio! quisiera escucharla!

@necrogoddess Yeah I have to agree, she started out well but then \went down, especially with the breathing and high notes. I still like her as a metal musician though, she isn't operatic but if I wanted to listen to an opera singer, I'd listen to Birgit Nilsson or Maria Callas. The Nice thing about Opera and Metal is that these two aren't so different. Metal takes a lot from opera and you can even hear some of it with voices like Halford or Dickinson

@ComaLies225 : I think that Callas, Dessay, whoever, are "better" simply because they are not versatile. By the way, I heard Natalie Dessay singing a simple christmas song, it was really ... bad. Yet, she is currently considered as the best soprano of our times. I prefer our metal singers a lot, because they explore everything and do it so well (even if not always perfect).

Listen to her Lakmé or any performance before ... she once had incredible coloratura and control. etc.. her high notes were perfect and effortless, she used to sing even a G#6 so effortless. Now her voice has suffered for two surgeries due to oversinging and her voice is becoming very nasal, her coloraturas are not as clean as before the surgeries

magistral. Floor Jansen is one of the best female singers I know. she can do whatever with her voice. from heavy grunts, rock heavy voice, ballad voice, growls and sing an aria perfect.
I especially like the version of Angela Gheorghiu. But that's a professional opera singer. It takes a lot of practice to sing it with that much control over the voice. Floor is a very good singer, I love her voice very much. But in this aria she's working too hard. I believe she can do better than this. A TV-show is also very different than singing in front of a 'real' audience.. Different atmosphere, different nerves...

Floor sings this aria much better than Hayley Westenra but only fans can say that she sings better than an opera singer. She does a good job when you ignore the technical mistakes. I like the perfomance but I think Floor should stick with what she does best.
"O Mio Babbino Caro" is the most pop aria ever. Every "Pop Opera" female performer have done it. And is the most popular between the metal girls who had some classical training. So I kind don't like the aria anymore.
@fabidivinecomedy Just to add something. I listened again and I do like Floor's perfomance. She sounds like a young student singing during her first big recital in conservatory, still doing mistakes. But in Floor's case she is a metal/rock singer so doesn't need to fix them.

i love floor but this aria is not for her type of voice at all! she is a dramatic soprano and this aria is made for lyric soprano voice. Why? because dramatic soprano is a deeper voice than lyric soprano which is a high-pitched voice. Its not that she is bad, is just that this song is not made for her voice...maybe she should sing more dramatic roles because her high notes in this song, don't emphasize her abilities for singing various types of music.

Pero aún asi pienso que Tarja lo hace mucho mejor que Floor, y eso que Floor debería tener más facilidades por ser una soprano de coloratura.Vet al min 1:32 y 2:16, eso ya dice mucho. Ella tampoco tiene mucha agilidad, menos q Tarja incluso. Pero, concuerdo contigo n q hay mejores versiones de este arias, kiri t kanawa, monserrat C., Carmen M., Anna netrebko Renata Tebaldi, Renee Fleming y claro las memorables Callas y Muzio.

@klahuss Por eso mismo, la soprano de coloratura tiende a ser por excelencia más ágil. Tarja tiene más entrenamiento que Floor, pero claro la ágilidad tampoco es su fuerte. Pero creo que comparando O mio babbino caro interpretado por ambas, gana Tarja sin duda. No digo que Tarja sea superior a Floor en todo, eso sería cegarme como muchos fanaticos. Revisa los videos de Tarja "operatic performance 1, 2 y 3" que están en finlandes. Ahí te daras cuenta cuales son los fuertes de Tarja.

Floor seguro lo haria excelente con otros arias que sean escritos para una soprano d coloratura, como seguramente Tarja lo haria mucho mejor con arias escritos para una soprano lyrica. Sobre lo q mencionas d "todo el estudio" de tarja, te dire q no muchas sopranos desarrollan buena técnica siendo tan jovenes. El momento de gloria, vendrà para ambas seguro màs adelante

@Amaranth2020 Bueno, creo que hay algo que no entiendes, si no estoy mal, la coloratura es una habilidad que adquieren las sopranos o vocalistas de opera en un proceso, no es una clasificacion como tal, Floor Jansen, si no estoy mal vendria siendo soprano lirica o dramatica, no estoy muy seguro, pero bueno, la coloratura no se la encuentro muy notable por el hecho de que no tiene mucha trayectoria para desarrollarla!

La coloratura como dices, en efecto no es una gama vocal, pues tanto la soprano lyrico, ligera, lyrico-ligera o dramática podrían ser mencionadas como sopranos de coloratura o sopranos q pueden emplear la coloratura (Pero esta ultima forma d mencionar no suena bn, es la correcta pero no suena bn) siempre y cuando tenga la capacidad de realizarla. Everyone also seems to be forgetting that she sings in a powerful tone mostly so it's gonna be powerfull when she belts out some of those notes. That's a good opera vocalist for you. And yes she is based in metal, but does not need that as an excuse because this was not that bad at all. Infact it was superb. She may not be the best opera vocalist in the world, but she deffinately is one and fantastic one at that. And the wide range she has is very spectacular and unique!

She is not hefty! Why would someone say that. She is not super skinny which I always thought was a plus when people realized that in the real world that does not look right. She is around 6 foot give or take an inch and muscular and slender. Where does that bring in hefty?? And she is also pretty much the most talented vocalist ever. Es la mejor pero deseo que no tenga diferencias con la banda after forever(me gusta!, es muy buena las mezclas de sonidos y arreglos que le fueron dando a todos los discos y eso es lo mas dificil de llegar), y que vuelva!!! lo mismo con lisa en xandria!!! molesta que siempre aparece alguien o algo y que desarme lo bueno!!! y otra cosa que me molesto es un poco mas de difusion para cuando esten en argentina o mejor combinar con bandas como Rata Blanca como hizo nightwish!!!

I have so much respect for this woman. When I was 13 years old I used to listen to her (After Forever). She really inspired me. that's why now I love opera so much (though she's not an opera singer) But I must say this is really bad, her high notes are bad.. it seems that she has nodules or something, she screams the notes, there's no control or support.. of course If I had watched this when I was 13 years old, then I would say it's incredible. I still like her as a metal musician though, she isn't operatic but if I wanted to listen to an opera singer, I'd listen to Birgit Nilsson or Maria Callas. The Nice thing about Opera and Metal is that these two aren't so different. Metal takes a lot from opera and you can even hear some of it with voices like Halford or Dickinson

@ComaLies225 : I think that Callas, Dessay, whoever, are "better" simply because they are not versatile. By the way, I heard Natalie Dessay singing a simple christmas song, it was really ... bad. Yet, she is currently considered as the best soprano of our times. I prefer our metal singers a lot, because they explore everything and do it so well (even if not always perfect).

@Elissea well, music critics from all around the world decided for an official list of the best sopranos made for the BBC, that the best soprano is anna netrebko, not dessay, that is why I sai yu were wrong, however, I agree with you that opera singers sometimes do not a good job with songs that are not opera

@nachtschatten93 Dessay was good at her prime. Listen to her Lakmé or any performance before ... she once had incredible coloratura and control. etc.. her high notes were perfect and effortless, she used to sing even a G#6 so effortless. Now her voice has suffered for two surgeries due to oversinging and her voice is becoming very nasal, her coloraturas are not as clean as before the surgeries

It's a little late. I already said what I said 2 days ago. There's no taking it back now. I'd say it again because Anette lacks any type of singing skills. Nightwish were ignorant for taking her in. Marco should have stepped up and fronted the band. He's amazing.

She is so talented, no doubt about this and she has proven it once again. This passage is by no means easy to interpret...wonderful Floor! Only one flaw: she has an horrible makeup, better without it.

@liricobarroco tha's funny because Tarja is also very amateur in opera stuff, Floor can have a excuse cause she is popular and a metal singer but i think Tarja is more a wannabe cause she doesn't belong to real opera nor metal, its great she has a particular style of singing but she is not unique nor perfect either, i got sick of all grily fans can't be a little objective , just because there's more singers who also sing lirical style doesn't mean Tarja is the only one.

magistral. Floor Jansen is one of the best female singers I know. she can do whatever with her voice. from heavy grunts, rock heavy voice, ballad voice, growls and sing an aria perfect.

I especially like the version of Angela Gheorghiu. But that's a professional opera singer. It takes a lot of practice to sing it with that much control over the voice. Floor is a very good singer, I love her voice very much. But in this aria she's working too hard. I believe she can do better than this. A TV-show is also very different than singing in front of a 'real' audience.. Different atmosphere, different nerves...

Floor sings this aria much better than Hayley Westenra but only fans can say that she sings better than an opera singer. She does a good job when you ignore the technical mistakes. I like the perfomance but I think Floor should stick with what she does best.
"O Mio Babbino Caro" is the most pop aria ever. Every "Pop Opera" female performer have done it. And is the most popular between the metal girls who had some classical training. So I kind don't like the aria anymore.

@fabidivinecomedy Just to add something. I listened again and I do like Floor's perfomance. She sounds like a young student singing during her first big recital in conservatory, still doing mistakes. But in Floor's case she is a metal/rock singer so doesn't need to fix them.
