Advertising is persuasive; reputation is not as much, as known with the best antiviruses . . . The ones one cannot find at a store. My favorite one, which I used on my other computer was the best because it prohibited any malicious programs from running initially. Unfortunately, I forgot its name. =/

if you search from a browser inside a sand box or use an app like shadow defender or even winpatrol (not quite the same thing but still good for keeping your enviroment unchanged) then you can really help protect yourself from drive by attacks, also I recomend useing an app such as "no script" & "ad blocker" & for root kit protection use a 64bit pc, prevention is better than cure & make your protection muti layered.

And I take back the endorsement of Avira. v.10 is a definite step down from 9, and the updater (avnotify) sends information back to Google and to random, remote servers in China. With AV's like that, who needs malware? Avast5 on the other hand is going in the right direction... up. It's a great AV. IMO without question the best free AV now.

I expect it to run and do its job as intended. It should be good for 1yr, but it is only 15days trial. And need to be activated. So what happen after i type the KEY? It very well might. I've heard it's much better, but I've witnessed so many nightmare experiences with Nortons in the past that I just can't trust it anymore. As with most things in life, the most popular, commercialized products are actually the worst (i.e. Mcafee & Nortons). Even AVG is probably the worst free AV, and it's the most popular. Kaspersky and Avira are kicking everybody's ass these days, and nobody ever heard of them. Figures...

Well I certainly know what I'm doing and have seen Nortons cripple various systems in the past. I know people that are security experts that have witnessed the same and won't entertain the idea of using Symantec products anymore as a result. Like I said though those were older versions. I have heard that's not the case anymore, but I won't test the theory myself because of past results. I've never had the problem with any other product, and I've used many.

@KiLerZolika The latest versions (the last couple of years) of Norton seem to run very well. I don't find slowness at all, as long as you disable the browser add-ons (they are still slow). And even full systems scans are pretty fast. Just over two hours on my system with Intel Core 2 Duo 1.87 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, and 75% full 320 GB hard drive.
