Great stuff. VERY interesting. I was intrigued by the producer's use of a B3 Hammond drifting in and out early in the track, as well as the psych noise at the end. Saw these guys in Philly prior to fist LP release. Extremely memorable- that was.
I live in Melbourne, Australia, was born in 1971 and have an ever growing fascination with the 60's that has been happening all of my life. I'd not got around to listening to this band or heard of John Cipollina before. I am going to check out more QSM tracks after posting this comment.
I envy everyone who was around at the time and able to check out the 60's bands/artists when they were performing in the 60's. You had it good. You had it oh so good. Darnit lol.
I saw this on a KQED special on the San Francisco sound back in '67 before QMS 1st album was released. I lived in Palo Alto & went to the city (SF) to see the Quicksilver Messenger Service almost every weekend from the summer of '66 through 1970.
@aurora1957A Quicksilver would rearrange their songs they played every few months, always testing now ground. They were never repetitive always progressing with their sound. They were king of the San Francisco jam bands. Bill Graham used to announce them as “Charter Members & the Grandfather of the San Francisco Sound. I was hooked 1st time I saw them & still am.
A perfect anthem for that period, even a bit of a precursor to women's power that was right around the corner. Great memories of hearing them in the outdoor Be-Ins of the era, dancing in front of the stage.
Thanks for posting this. I like it a lot, the effects are cool. Sounds a bit like Steve Miller band of '68, tho of course vice versa and MUCH better. Quicksilver was the the best!
Thanks Aurora Nice Track Im Sorry But I Think The Music Critics Should Go Write In The Mags An The Papers Im Here For The Music It Is What It Is Good Or Bad Ya Dont Like The Music Dont Listen To It Plain And Simple And I Happen To Like The Music You Post So ROCK ON!!!
MAN, WHAT A RELIEF! I Imagine you've "Checked-OUT" Some of the STUFF....someone Has 'Posted' to Represent QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE...this "Gary Duncan and QUICKSILVER' Stuff! MAN...Its' Really Apalling!!
I saw QMS last year and found the show to be professional and entertaining. Duncan is an under appreciated artist who was considerate enough of his fans to stick around and sign autographs.
I am not familiar with the entire body of his work but take a listen to "Close Enuf for Jazz" before dismissing him.
I know there are strong feelings but isn't his "I'm the one your mother warned you about" persona really what Rock n Roll is all about?

I might have probably every version of Dino's Song that Quicksilver recorded, it could be maybe their best all around number.
This take takes the cake, altho they're all good...
cuz we like to sing along to Dino's Song,
I don't ever want to spoil your party!
But I probably already have, so I better go.
It's been nice stopping by.
mm Hmm.

Do we demonize Jerry Lee Lewis?
