The sound effect for every little action that Mario (Jumpman) makes are absolutely hilarious. Between the walking noises and the scootch-scootch of going across a wire, I'm pretty sure these were the sound effects for everything that were hard-wired into my head as a kid.

So I guess the point is that the GBC couldn't have done an exact port of the arcade donkey kong, so they just made a simplified version, and used the rest of the memory to create a nice long puzzle game with many diverse levels? fair enough. when I first heard about it I thought perhaps the original DK levels in it were more accurate than in the NES version. turns out I was wrong about that. it's it's own game

The levels are easy because they are the first levels, Mario has all new moves that make him far better at platforming, and they are only meant to serve as a transition from the arcade game to this brilliant puzzle/platformer/thing game.

In the case of over-simplification, like how there are fewer platforms in 75m, that's due to the limitations of the Game Boy. Especially its resolution.

This. Even though I never played Mario vs. DK, I'd have to go with this one. From what I've read, Mario vs. DK seems to lack a real challenge.
