This song is not even on her greatest hits (or the one I bought) but it's good and her other songs for Motown are just fantastic and so overlooked. Yeah like her and her songs much more than Diana Ross and the Supreme's songs.
@11xzxzxz What has Diana Ross and the Supremes have to do with Mary Wells? Why do people constantly Pit Black Artist against Black Artist..yet this Never happens with White artists. The Supremes were the Supremes. Mary Wells was Mary Wells..totally different artists so why are you comparing them. Oh.. just being dumb I guess.
@blkshepherd You are way off. It happens all the time with all groups you just miss it. Time and and again you will miss it with you narrow focus. Understandable and all race and people do the same thing. In this case I don't think I was doing it .. but maybe I am dumb. Mary and Diana have everything to do with one another because of Gordy. Berry wanted to fit Diana into the slot he had envisioned for Mary .. or even tried with Mary for a while. Partly business, partly dating decision.
@blkshepherd Mary - to me she sang better and had better material and moves me much more in part thanks to Smokeys music. In my mind I was comparing them in part because I don't think Mary got her due and the Supremes were overrated. Just my opinion. Nothing to do with race. If Diana was Hispanic and Mary was white I would be making the same comparison because of the Berry Gordy connection.
@blkshepherd Lastly, I am not saying that there is not a tendency though for some of the people some of the time to sometimes group persons of one group in with others. Blacks and Whites all do it. I just do not think I was doing it and I think it happens all the time with white artists being compared but understandable you are more sensitive to it then most white guys like me would.
@dadeepeight funny how Black artist are always pitted against each other..but Never happens with whites. Never hear whites comparing Madonna to Cher..or Liza Mineilli to Barbra Stresisand..but Leave it TO Blacks to Pit Blacks against each other..how Stupid. Diana dont have to Compete..She is The Queen of Motown. like it or not..
i really find it fasinateing how you blessed folk can keep all that good ole' info in your heads for old timers like me to come along and pick you brains to the point i actualy
start seeing my self doing what i was doing back then ... is groovin' still considerd

I love this song so much..These words have so much meaning to me cus I always sang this song to both my daughter n son since they were newborns and as much as they dislike this music they love this song.My ex-husband of 17yrs said it was our lil family song..cus what love has joined together can't nobody take it apart.
when I was a teenager it was a boy name Larry C Bartlette. He was my first boyfriend I played this song a wrote all the words down on notebook paper. Gave it to him to tell him how much I loved him. I wish I knew where he was today.
Song was released as Motown 1042 and as you listen after she sings "Can't Nobody Take It Apart" she does kinda sound like Smokey Robinson on the vibrato, doesn't she?("Your Old Standby" is the B-side of the song)
At the end of the phrase "Can't nobody take it apart" I hear what sounds to my ears to be an unintended slight impression of Smokey's vibrato in Mary's beautiful voice. Mary is my favorite female Motown artist and it's so sad that she's gone now. I think practically every song she recorded was written and produced by Smokey Robinson. What a great combination! Thanks for posting this.
You just proved what I just said : Temptations fans love to credit their favorite group, but NEVER want to give credit to anyone else. A suggestion : When you get a chance, go to Wikipedia and look up "The Miracles" .
I also love Mary's version and The Temptations versions. I just like The Miracles' version best . It's longer , quieter, and more intimate. Perfect for a candle lit dinner for two. Mary's version is also more romantic.
The Miracles recorded the song first, in 1962. Their version was not released on a single. Mary recorded her version in 1963. The Temptations recorded their version 2 years later for their "Temptations Sing Smokey" album. The Miracles also re- recorded the song , as a special extended version, in 1970, as the title song from their album of the same name: What Love Has....Joined Together. (The rarest, most sought - after Miracles album on CD) .
That's because Temptations fans always have a habit of praising and crediting their favorite group, but never want to give credit to anyone else. I think The Miracles' version is best. Besides , two of them , Smokey and Bobby Rogers, wrote the song. What did the Temptations ever write ?
well, that maybe true, but I just feel that the Temptations did it the best. Temptations had the biggest influence in music today than Mary and probably the about the same as the Miracles
The MIRACLES have more songs inducted into the GRAMMY HALL OF FAME than ANY other Motown group . The Supremes have 3...The Temptations only 2... and one of THOSE (My Girl) was written by 2 of The Miracles...Smokey Robinson and Ronnie White
well really what difference does it make? I think most people are familiar with the Temptations than they are with the Miracles... now when I say most people, I mean any individual white, black, asian etc. Are their any movies out specifically about the Miracles? there is about the Temptations.
I still love you Cesar Borbon and alwaye will. And this song takes me all the way back to are good old days. I made a choice and I choose wrong and I'll pay for it the rest of my life. BUT I LOVE YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. Babydoll

I like this version. Her singing is exquisite, but the version that Smokey produced for the Temptations is more sophisticated. I wonder why is that? They only recorded this song about a year apart.
