  • love george....i even like the over acting customer over his shoulder...& that sgt major is a peach of a man loving the vibe till he realises he is being mocked.......good stuff

  • Thats my George formby i know and love :)

  • I feel a bit bad for the Sarn't Mayjah, I know they're sods but without 'em the military would be shatt !

  • There don't seem to be any of his movies (by sequence or complete) on YouTube. I should think the copyright on them's expired by now.

  • id of liked to of smoked a fat spliff with him haha

  • HE IS THE ORIGINAL MR BEAN!!!!

  • @rocksonice3333

He's nothing like fecking Mr. Bean?!?!

  • I reckon the bloke just behind George's right shoulder is on cocaine.

  • @roygbiv444 it probably wasn't illegal then, sherlock holmes did it, albeit about 45-50 years earlier

  • @sonofplug I thought it was heroine that Holmes did?

  • @roygbiv444 could've been but, I recall him saying he wouldn't go to crack dens, althogh i could be paraphraseing

  • @sonofplug haha well that's beside the point.

What i was saying was either the actor playing that man was a terrible actor, or the character was on cocaine :P

  • @roygbiv444 Yes I supposse he is a bad actor, or a very good actor playing a crack head

  • ***t wish I'd found this for Mum before she passed on. Guess you can listen to what you may now, Flos

  • Sorry to wee on every ones parade but I am sure George is wearing a RAF Uniform and the guy who walks in is wearing the rank of warrant officer or station warrant officer (SWO).My point is there is no such thing as a 'Sergent Major' in the RAF only the Army but maybe there was in then days but not from the 80's onwards!

  • @TheSkyvirgin damn you, you've ruined it now, GRRR

  • I enjoyed it every minute of it! Thanks!

  • the singer on the ellinton film is ray nance, he also played violin and trumpet, he was featured on a lot of ellington recoreds. >>

Thank you kindly for the info.

    Bless you.

  • imagine him doing this in a pub. he would start like a t wat and then, at the end he would be like a 'rockstar'. people would pay a lot to see him live

    bless his good heart:)

  • @OrangeCapriSunApple

you'd be suprised, a lot of people love to hear his songs! If it were him doing them today he'd be a "rock star" all the way through this song!

  • funny as fukkkkkkkkkk amazing

  • whats the film this is from?.

  • For all those with service backgrounds this hits the spot LOL

Robin Ariel Ross St Claire Holgate

    Singer/Celebrity

  • Thanks for posting, takes me back to when I was a kid.

  • Thats lee evans right there

  • George Formby is wearing RAF uniform! They do not have Sergeant Majors in the RAF!

  • Excellent George Formby, what an entertainer

  • A statue of George Formby has been erected in Wigan and looks nothing like him!

  • Haha. Love George. Stevie /riks got me into him. Love his impersonation of him.

  • Catchy tune! Strangely enough I only just heard this guy singing On the Maginot Line on the World at War documentary series.

  • I just keep coming back to watch this video. So great.

  • "Turned out nice again hasn't it?" was his catch frase. Wonderful Lancashire artist. I keep enjoying these classics. Well done ! Thanks for sharing this fantastic stuff.

  • George Formby +Rest In Peace +

So a Sgt-Maj in the medics(01) has medals for killing the enemy,

    what a WALT!

  • Genius!!! This guy is unique around this time.

  • all hes films are great love no limit the best.

  • forever lasting whos he blasting lol

  • We'd rather shoot him than salute him! Epic

  • What a pity these are all cut before the song and scene ends!

  • Why are all the actors except George so crap?

  • @Muskadash Possibly due to there being a war on!

  • He is fucking brilliant.

  • @lolspud I don't know about his fornication skills but his playing was good and he was definitely an original

  • No disrespect to the poster, but George only made 20 films... 21 if you include an appearance in a silent film when he was just 11.

I guess he's so ingrained as part of the good old days of Britain, that we assume he made many more.

  • That's Polly Ward. Makes me wish I had been born in 1904....

  • Priceless video, great tune. I'll hum this all day sometimes...not to mention, who's the dishy lass egging George on, eh? Good old George, always pursued/pursuing the pretty dames.

  • Hiya, nazcasteve,

Funny you say that - I was just reading about George on Wikipedia and on there, it says his wife of some 34 years died on Dec 24, 1960 and that Geo Formby was going to marry a 36-yr-old the following spring (all of three months after his wife died!)

Heck, if he was still alive today, he'd be, what, 106? And I'd still marry him, the little cutie! ::giggles:::

  • I reckon George's cheekiness melted more than a few hearts, male and female, lol. What a classic, eh? They don't make them like that anymore. 3 months mourning and then moving on...looks like George wasn't one to stay lonely for long. Good on you for being such a fan.

  • In 1965 I was a soldier in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps based at Camp Borden in Ontario, Canada. Being a bango player, and song writer, the guys got a great kick out of hearing me poke fun at the military life. 40 years later I found George Formby on YouTube doing the same thing. What an experience!

  • Gotta love George, I remember watching his films when i was a kid, didn't know how "naughty" some of his songs where...lol

  • Just like me then :D

  • Glad to hear that, we must have been innocent back then...lol

  • lol you mean we arn't anymore? 0:D

  • Sorry i dont mean to cast aspersions on you mate but i know i am not ...lol could you imagine George singing like this these days, mind you i guess it was the way he said things!

  • I can imagine GF singing nowadays :) better than some of the tripe that comes from Xfactor lol

  • Have to agree with you there, wonder what Simon would make of him....lol, george would just sing some observationary tune about him.

  • george formby is brill

  • Yes he saw great!

  • Love the song, but that giggly guy behind him is no oscar winner. Distracts me lol

  • Wheres Bell Bottom George, the best song ever!

  • hihi love this song

  • I'm a 21 year rock and roll guitar player, but I really like the sound of this.

  • Good is good, a star is a star, genius is a genius. Year is not important. Lets build a bridge between generations.

  • This is my Grandmother's era, seeing this reminds me so much of her. George Formby was so popular, especially in the north.

  • starred in around a hundred movies??

  • Starlababy, remember how old this is. This song would have connected with the people back then, but obviously not to us.

  • @Starlababy

If you don't like watching his stuff then, why watch it in the first place?

    Just wanting some attention.

  • I'm an ex WO2 (Sgt Major, British Army)

Sounds about right to me (apart from the medals, I earned mine killing the enemy)!!

  • really? i love learning about world war 2, did you ever fight the germans?

  • Sorry, no, only recenly retired. (2004)

  • @medics01 You're a real GI Joe bringing up your kills over George Formby.

  • I feel bad for the Sgt. Major... all happy and cheery when hearing the solo, then realising the songs about him!!

    What a laugh :D

  • That looks like a young Bob Todd at 0.21 (who later became Benny Hill's sidekick) in the background, who pulls the girt back.

  • Isnt that an raf uniform? Didnt think the raf had sgt majors?

  • LOL then the Sgt. Major walks in!

  • classic song i like it xD the major

  • our Seargent Major LMFAO LEGEND

  • ? wot???

  • ask any old paratrooping bricklayer richard todd and the rest?

aar liItte geroge played D-Day plus 2

    AFTER PEGASUS

    T

I know my fucking history, and for the record I know most of America's too, it's just this was random as fuck

  • imagine him on the x factor!!! he'd blow there tiny minds...

  • He'd be better in the Big Brother house :-D

  • @manclion

Why would he blow *their* minds?

  • @manclion

I very much doubt it - George would be way too individual and unique for the X Factor judges to handle.

Plus they don't let the acts perform their own songs - Simon Cowell would make him do some dodgy Celine Dion cover or something instead

  • @manclion

He'd blow here tiny minds as well!

  • The guy was a genius.

  • @Timothycan

    I know eh... baffling...

  • He he - Turned out nice again - Mother!

  • ha ha the seargent major's face when he finds out what they are singin about is priceless.

  • aye i love it how the solo how he's get's into it then the verse starts then he goes "HANG NO A MINUET ON OF THE PILOTS IS TALKING SINGING ABOUT ME WHO IS IT?!"

  • I hate it when people say "this is stupid its so old"

    i think its amazing xD

  • georgey boy played on d-day+3 with his wife in a barn for the paras along side richard todd straight after pegasus bridge?

that man epitomises who we were

  • i could imagine what a similair misfortune might be like in my cadet force

  • giorge formby is the greatest. when times are bad and you are blue just pick up your uke and sing mr woo

  • 1:57 The Sergeant Major's expression XD haha "We'd sooner shoot 'im than salute 'im Our Sergeant Major."

  • 1:27

  • "We'd sooner shoot him than salute him... our seargent major.." LMAO :-D

  • Nice banjo solo!

  • my grandpa loves him

  • i love him! hes a GENIUS!

    lol :)

    xxx <3

  • best ever

  • George your a gas an i l love that song

  • Couldnt Stop Laughing So Funny Lmfao

  • I love the way the Seargent Major walks in at 1:23 and within 5 seconds he's already stuck into the song. People can't even "act" that they don't like him.

"He'd even smother his own mother,

    Our Seargent Major...

We'd sooner shoot him than salute him

    Our Sergeant Major"

    Classic.

  • I'm thinking of the BOSS at work right now!!!

  • how do you make the time in the video highlighted in blue ?

  • I have no idea...perhaps it's a new feature on YouTube. Let me try again: 1:23

  • Ah so it works...it's just a new feature...just type the time as normal.

  • ahh cool :) thanks mate ;)

  • Youtube is just the best idea in ages. Next best is George Formby. He was mentioned daily in our Lancashire house.

  • Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs!

    Nice one, thanks for sharing.

  • Lol - George Formby FTW!!

  • lol this has to be the song with the most obvious meaning, penis jokes never grow old lol

  • this song is from "In the air"

  • rock on

  • Great song! His films were shown in Sweden, so I think the older generation over here remembers him.

  • the film is called bell bottom george

  • this guy above is real tacky. uses every formby movie to promote himself. yeah, he's a good player, but this guerilla promo tactic is really tacky! I don't knw why he works so hard to get people to see his one (and only) video.

  • Does anyone know the song that hes singing whilst dancing with a girl in a film when he's mistaken for a sailor,i think?

  • he was a legand

  • did you ever hear Under The Blasted oak or the Hindu hoodoo how do you do man I can't find them anywhere if you did i'd be pleased to recieve them Gilly xx

  • Warmest Regards Harry.... courtesy of CPL Bentley!

  • does anyone know where to get the tab for this?

  • Its magic to hear George Formby. He had a style all of his own.

  • I ADORE GEORGE!

  • who wrote his lyrics?

  • limp bizkit.

    NO himself

  • Not! Most of George's song's were written by Gifford and Cliffe, or a chap called Cottrell writing the earlier one's. Although George's name occassionally appears along side these, it remains debatable whether he actually had any input.

This does not alter the fact that he was and remains, the greatest ever UKE-BANJO player, of course!

  • Those were the days boys, Spitfires, Hurricanes,Beaufighters,Lancasters, Halifaxes,

Blenheims and let us not forget the Wellington. Most of you will not know what I am talking about I bet.

  • I do

  • Well done StanchesterQ.Nice to hear a voice of knowledge within the sea of ignorance and intolerance oft displayed in these pages and elsewhere. Let us not forget too, the Fulmer, Defiant,Handley Page Hampden, Gloucester Gladiator,Avro Manchester, Avro York,D.H.Rapide and Dragonfly, and the dear old kite that I learned to fly in, the venerable, and still flying D.H.Tiger Moth.

Them wuz the days StanchesterQ.Per Adua Ad Astra.

  • Never in the field of human conflict, was so much owed, by so many, to so few.

Douglas "Tin Legs" Bader, Johnnie Johnson, Sailor Malan, Buzz "Screwball" Buerling, Robert Stanford "Lucky" Tuck, Peter Townsend to name a few.... Bless'em All!

  • This is just brilliant :)

I love singing this song when we have friends round the table, playing my uke. (Hopefully a banjo uke for Xmas ;) )

  • Miss you George...

  • Wunderbar, I luv eet!

  • Station Warrant Officer(SWO) not a Sgt/Maj.

Still a real good song and film. The flying is top notch.

    188

  • the problem isnt modern times but this very egoist attitude and concept of *anyone* being "in charge"of everyone else.

whatever good or bad you can say of any race can be applied to your own. examples abound you only need to stand back enough to see it. (reality is funny that way)

  • This is great it shows how old i am

  • No it's great, you're just wise enough to know it & have good taste. *wink* I'm only 37 and know, this is GOLDEN.

  • I'm 14 and I know this is Golden. ;)

  • it does matter how old you are my cousen was 6 when he first saw thing s like this and now hes 10 and stilll likes the oldies. this is because anybody can apreciat great music, acting and of course a ukaley banjo

  • haha i was seeing how long it wud take sum1 to correct me

  • turned out well again hasnt it=]

  • turned out NICE u pleb

  • Song made me smile and remember when things were good!

  • Innocent times.The best!Now the world is a worse place in 2007.

  • im 14 and i think this guy rocks

  • i listen to him. even hes dead for long time ago. im 18, and love this guy :)

  • I'm young and me and my friends love George Formby. In fact, we love all other entertainers like that.

  • superb music and singing...

some of today's youngsters should listen to these songs and melodies...
