@romanason She does this because its awesome and it makes her unique! But I totally understand you find it too much. Just a matter of taste. I can't get enough of it ;) Joyce Didonato's redition is amazing too though. Have you hear June Anderson singing this? Her coloratura is very pure and she sings this very good!
This is one of my favorite arias....and I always prefer the mezzo sound in it to the soprano sound. Tho many sopranos sing it pretty well, the mezzo timbre just adds and extra dimension to it. And you can't do much better than Cecilia that's for sure..

bellini, rossini and donizetti would have loved her for her artistry and her voice!!!! They are probably looking down from heaven to our great artists!!! =)
i hate people who have to critique everything....you lose enjoyment oof just hearing a gorgeous song...no song is perfectly sung..it is a matter of opinion...so leave it at that.
There's justification to question certain technical and artistic decisions a performer makes. I question her staccato delivery of her notes- it's like ping pong balls popping out as notes. And yes, I have heard her live in a small theater. I appreciate her musicality, but I have a hard time listening to her. I prefer Marilyn Horne's technique in bel canto, which means, "beautiful singing." No other singer today of any note
a subrette soprano with a quiver and many terrible facial contortions. great natural talent lousy technique. inaudible in a theater. listen to caballe or giada amparan for great voice and technique
This is beautifuly well sung! Why has somebody rated it with 4 or less stars? Ah! Yes! They are probebly jelous. And I don't blame them. Bartoli's singing is incompareable.
I'm always positively surprised how she handles her voice, which definitely has a small volume but sounds sooooo amazing - both in coloratura and in lyric pieces! Brava!

Classic Bartoli - with the over done wavering/colaratura
Don't know why she needs to do this so much
Much prefer Joyce DiDonato's pure and direct renditions

Of those sopranos singing this in recent times, my favorite. Such an interesting interpretation! Fascinating singer!
