  • I heard Victoria sing with the Seattle Symphony under Milton Katims

Scheherezade of Ravel. her pearl & ruby bracelet that she was photographed in with Fischer Dieskau & her wristwatch were stolen from her dressing room . Helas!

  • superbe ! un régal

  • Many thanks

    Moltes gràcies

  • Nice song! Thank you.

Just four little typos: regelades -> regalades, aime -> aimo, pelissa -> pellissa, Roselló -> Rosselló :-)

  • És preciosa, especialment cantada per Victoria dels Àngels. thanks for posting.

  • m'encanta aquesta canço!!!!!!.

  • It is "I drink Roussllon wine", actually.

  • i'm catalan, and i love this song !

    ;)

  • This was recorded when Victoria was 67/68 years of age!

She began singing professionally(1944),in a small way, when she was still studying at the Conservatory in Barcelona.

With years of experience, and some vocal problems in middle age, she managed to work on her voice, and this is a fine example of how good her technique was throughout her life. She almost reinvented her voice in her later years, and what a result!

  • we're singing this song choir! great job!

  • I've returned to listen again!

  • Welcome back!

  • I can just imagine myself sitting in the front row, listening to this---as I did on three occasions.

    Not Muntanyes regalades however.

A superb 'immediate recording',sung by VdlA who had music in her blood.

  • I envy you that front row experience! My best live experiences were from 'the gods' in the old Hallé concert hall in Manchester - orchestral concerts mostly, with John Barbirolli conducting. As a schoolboy I didn't then appreciate them fully.

  • Utterly simple but so utterly charming. Who else but Victoria to be this and do this!

  • I believe this Catalan folksong absolutely right for VdlA at this stage in her career.

Could almost have been written with her in mind, and by jove, she knows how to sing it, and capture the mood of the lyrics in her expressive singing.I really can't imagine anyone else singing it better.

  • Incredibly beautiful voice! And I SO need the translations in all of these. MANY THANKS, sziyyet! There is no telling how many listeners and students you are helping.

  • Thanks for your kind comments! I hope to post a number of this kind of song in which the lyrics make an important contribution. Beware though - the translated lyrics are not necessarily literal because I try to preserve some of the poetry of the original.

  • Yes, if a translation is "literal" (meaning hyperliteral in actuality) it is not a translation after all. Human beings are hopelessly poetic, aren't they? God bless you.

  • WELL---It doesn't come any better than this.

    Thanks.
