  • the super nintendo ds! Take that sony XD!

  • nice work! :)

  • January 29th 2010, pretty much everything is ready except the cases. The Chinese factory is still making little tweaks to make the case perfect, but they can crank out the first 10,000 (first batch + extras) in a matter of days once the design is all done and approved.

  • Jan 8th of 2010, Mass production is ready to get the green light, but it has not officially started.

  • "always thought you have to code that" lol

  • Keeping the comments thread up to-date:

The mass-production molds are being designed / machined.

  • Hellollo!

  • nice the gimp.. think a camera should be built inside pandora.. imagine taking a picture and photoshopping (gimping.) it on the fly... it would be quite novel.

  • Sorry, it's way too late in the design for that to happen.

But if you have a camera that uses SD cards, you can do that anyway!

  • So Yeah, they've got the FDM prototype case for these now.

  • It's so cool!

But it's also too expensive for me to buy right now.

Though considering it has wireless and a full Linux-based OS, it would replace my Nintendo DS, my PDA, and, for high-mobility tasks, my laptop.

Maybe I should get a job, I need one of these.

  • @cyborgtroy I agree totally, the way i weigh up value is what it is, what other options are there? ie netbook, normal laptop of a similar price, if this device was £100 i could have no argument of buying 1 whatsoever as performance vs price is about even.

  • Im oging to buy.1!!!

  • penpvdbs has ordered one!!:)

  • Excellent work!

Can't wait to get my Pandora :)

  • LOL @ drawing Hello World ;]

  • Are you trying to cast spells with your stylus after you press something?

This looks ace, I will be buying one.

  • Thank you!!

  • Nice! I'd like to know how much it takes to fully start up (how much time before that loading screen?) even though it's not optimized.

Can't wait to see hardware accelerated stuff already!

  • Before that loading screen were approx. 3 - 4 seconds.

Will be quicker from NAND on the final version :)

  • thx =`]

will this system have an always-on strategy (like a palm or pocketpc) or will I have to boot everytime? turning on the screen from sleep would be much quicker than having to full reboot everytime... (and it could be made in a battery-saving way, also)

  • well I'm not sure, but it isn't meant to be (originally) to be a UMPC, it was originally a game emulator & homebrew system, but the greatness of linux and opens source is that it can be used for that too!

  • especially because it runs on a super power-saving arm processor, it's smarter to keep it on sleep rather than have to full reboot everytime =`]

  • Ownage :D great work ED

  • Epic work ED & the OpenPandora team :D

Very impressed, and I can't wait for mine to arrive.

Loving all the functionality atm and the usage of the touch-screen. The res of the screen looks good in terms of desktop area, too.

  • I cant wait for my pandora to get shipped. :(

  • I must have one. And open source too!! I love open source.

  • Nice to see this up and running and pretty great commentary by ED! :)

  • HELLOLLO

  • Ive been watching this project for a few months. Good luck to all of you and i will hopefully be buying one in the second batch.

  • Tolle Arbeit!

Das macht die Pandora jetzt schon mindestens so nützlich wie z.B. den ersten eeePC und passt dazu noch in die Hosentasche. Bin schon ganz hibbelig.

  • I LOVE IT

    I

    WANT

    IT NOW

seeing the touchscreen just makes me more saying:" HELL I LOVE IT

  • Yay! Things are looking better each day!!

  • Yeah, nice piece of hardware.

I pre-ordered mine and had the opportunity to buy two pandora's, Can't wait to start developing on it..

  • WANT!

Heh. I'll keep on waiting for it, definitely looks nice so far.

  • DO WANT DO WANT DO WANT

Can't wait to see the first assembled unit :)

  • cool. good luck in the upcoming months.

  • Tolle Arbeit. :)

  • ED: you're great!

Pandora is getting better and better, the Team is working hardly and this, for that kind of project, is very important.

    Next update.....The firs completed unit.

    Thanks you VERY much.
