January 29th 2010, pretty much everything is ready except the cases. The Chinese factory is still making little tweaks to make the case perfect, but they can crank out the first 10,000 (first batch + extras) in a matter of days once the design is all done and approved.
nice the gimp.. think a camera should be built inside pandora.. imagine taking a picture and photoshopping (gimping.) it on the fly... it would be quite novel.
@cyborgtroy I agree totally, the way i weigh up value is what it is, what other options are there? ie netbook, normal laptop of a similar price, if this device was £100 i could have no argument of buying 1 whatsoever as performance vs price is about even.
will this system have an always-on strategy (like a palm or pocketpc) or will I have to boot everytime? turning on the screen from sleep would be much quicker than having to full reboot everytime... (and it could be made in a battery-saving way, also)
well I'm not sure, but it isn't meant to be (originally) to be a UMPC, it was originally a game emulator & homebrew system, but the greatness of linux and opens source is that it can be used for that too!
the super nintendo ds! Take that sony XD!

Sorry, it's way too late in the design for that to happen.
But if you have a camera that uses SD cards, you can do that anyway!

So Yeah, they've got the FDM prototype case for these now.

It's so cool!
But it's also too expensive for me to buy right now.
Though considering it has wireless and a full Linux-based OS, it would replace my Nintendo DS, my PDA, and, for high-mobility tasks, my laptop.
Maybe I should get a job, I need one of these.

Nice! I'd like to know how much it takes to fully start up (how much time before that loading screen?) even though it's not optimized.
Can't wait to see hardware accelerated stuff already!
GogetaSSJ4BR 3 years ago
Before that loading screen were approx. 3 - 4 seconds.
Will be quicker from NAND on the final version :)

especially because it runs on a super power-saving arm processor, it's smarter to keep it on sleep rather than have to full reboot everytime =`]

Epic work ED & the OpenPandora team :D
Very impressed, and I can't wait for mine to arrive.
Loving all the functionality atm and the usage of the touch-screen. The res of the screen looks good in terms of desktop area, too.

Tolle Arbeit!
Das macht die Pandora jetzt schon mindestens so nützlich wie z.B. den ersten eeePC und passt dazu noch in die Hosentasche. Bin schon ganz hibbelig.
