  • it's almost 12 AM here in dallas, texas and they're running their sirens....i can hear the thunderbolts going off...man i tell you that is a fucking cool and bone chilling sound now this is what a siren should sound like...

  • Wee need those to our borders here ind Denmark.

  • We have five of these here for our warning sirens... I still shudder every time I hear them go off. Even though they've only gone off once that I heard that wasn't a test (the other time, I was in school and couldn't hear them). Gotta love it, though.

  • im trying to make a replica to put it in my house roof only to make it sound in 21st december 2012 hahaha, it would be funny to see people's reaction

  • I wish federal signal wasn't the crap it was today, making these crappy 2001 sirens...

  • @cheetawolf well then bring back the threat of global nuclear war at a moment's notice and the dual tone sirens will be more common

  • It's a rare one depending on sound.Thats a rare one indeed.

  • We might need to put these back in action.

  • During the second Gulf War [2003, just before the allies moved on Iraq] I used to pull pranks on my classmates between classes [we don't move from our classrooms in Kuwait. we stay put and teachers come to us instead]. I'd roll up my text book and then do my best imitation of the siren. Gotta admit I pulled it off awesomely [My voice hadn't broken at the time, so I could hit the high pitch]. Everyone would go 'HIT THE DECK' and get down on the floor and cover their heads. Was fucking PRICELESS.

  • LOVE THIS SHIT!

  • My grandfather were in WW2, he fought for Italy... I told him to listen to this, and he said "OMG, turn that thing off!"

  • @mmX1995 I don't blame him. After living through WWII, He's probably heard that sound enough to last him 2 lifetimes.

  • Air raid sirens, especially this type, are funny looking, and they look kind of funny spinning around (to me anyway LOL). But that sound.....O_O! LOL I'm hoping I never have to hear that sound in my life, outside of a test!

  • Everytime i hear this when theres a thunderstorm I know shits about to hit the fan.

  • beware! nuclear bomb exploding!

  • I remember hearing this about every other week or so when we were under a tornado warning. Central Wisconsin gets a lot of tornadoes during the summer. Now I live in central FL, which strangely enough, has no type of tornado warning system at all. (Central FL is prone to tornadoes as well.)

  • im 17 now and i remember in elementary school doing bomb drills, we would be away from all the windows and stand in the hallways with our backs against the walls

  • This is The Main Siren In Kuwait

  • I'd shit my pants if this thing went off for real...

  • @AARDeadORAlive The reason these things don't bother me is because a town I lived in had the T'Bolts...the alert was the county vfd was answering a call; the attack was for the city fd...now the dual tone....tornado warning...THAT ONE did cause concern...

  • alright. who woke hitler??? WHO!!!!!!!1

  • Long Live the thunderbolt :)

  • Krauht88....mine too!! When my phone "goes off" no one else reaches for theirs to say the least!! I do get some strange looks though...how about you??

  • sounds to cold war...

  • its happening again........

  • Holy Shit...here comes Pyramid Head.

  • jejeje...los restauradores...esas pesan como 280Kg...q miedo!

  • Back when I was young we had one these on the roof top on the school next door on the day JFK got killed I recall my Father talking to my Mother that we could be bomb tonight by the Soviets .Living in Omaha, Nebraska SAC would have been a first strike hit. So I stay up all night looking out the window from my bed waiting for this Thunderbolt to sound off. It stlll creeps me out.

  • tese ww2 sirens are my new ringtones

  • I hate this sound!!!

  • Sounds like Area 51 when they find out I ate a can of beans.

  • i like "attack" for tornadoes and "alert" for severe weather (not tornadoes), which is more effective/popular?

  • I Remember these! They used to sound those things off every last Friday at the end of the month at 9:00 a.m! I wish they bring them back nowadays for earthquake warnings and Tsunami Alerts!

  • i remember back in Grammer School here in L.A in the 70's and they got tested once a month on Friday's at 10:00 am throughout the city and the nuns would make use go outside for a practice drill...still freaks me out

  • BEST...... SOUND....EEVVVEERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

  • the audio on this video was used on american restoration cuz the thunderbolt on the show didnt appear to have the blower .

  • @acahurricane1275 That American Restoration episode was a joke. They only visually restored the siren and did not do any research. They didn't check the rotor, chopper, or the motor. They didn't check to see if it was single or 3 phase. Hell, they didn't even cut holes in the mounting pole to allow air to come in.

  • @Thewoog34 i know i watched it yesterday and it was a complete joke , and the main guy(dont know his name ) says when he does a full restoration he wants everything in working order , all they did was rebend the blower pipe to be plum , and slapped a CD yellow paint job on it , obviously he was to lazy to check the motor , do any research , or anything .

  • guys, that's chuck norris's fart

  • Is it possible that you can send me this vid.? It keeps buffering with my crapy signal.

  • I love the sound of chaos and armageddon and this sound was beautiful to me.

  • @XxRawrImaRitsukaxX same here man...

  • holy shit.... no wonder everyone had fear when the german airplanes came... this sound is the scariest thing i have ever heard in my entire life!!!!!

  • I pressed play and then someone calls me on Skype, and I was like, "Really? That's what it sounds like?"

  • @steven099

    Funny;p

  • 1:48 Plane hit at 11 september

  • Fallout 3

  • Those sounds remind me of horror and dead people dont know why ...

  • @ky4ence All the games they've been put in, probably. LOL Or TV shows, movies, etc.

  • there is one right by my school

  • Silent Hill!!

  • The Sirens? QUICK! EVERBODY PANIC!!!

  • die sirene hört sich total scheisse an die e57 ist soundmäsig viel schöner und brutaler

  • Somewhere on my computer I have a mp3 of a real Air Raid siren. There are some days.........

  • I swear, it wasn't me this time!

  • Back during the cold war, Washington DC had a system of 500+ of these Thunderbolt 1000Ts. That would have been the last thing all the politicians would have heard if someone over in the USSR turned the key.

  • This is my new ringtone

  • @Krauht88 Mine, too...at least no one else looks at their phone when mine rings. Reminds me of a George Carlin TV skit...what if phones had sirens instead of bells?

    "QUICK!!!Catch it before it peaks!!!!

  • @catman5169 That if they realice that is the phone instead of a real siren before it stops.

  • @Krauht88 Oh, I know..but it sure is fun. I was doing dealer transfer work a few years back, and two of us had been sent to pick up a car. My partner was driving the chase car, when my phone "rang"...she pulled to the side of the road and started looking for the police...when I picked the phone up and said "Hello"...the look on her face was priceless!!!!

  • @catman5169 Yeah, those moments are the best.

  • 11 people have this at the window of sleeping room :-)

  • Silent Hill!!!

  • @TheTubbenator The siren used in Silent Hill was actually a Federal STL-10. Both the Thunderbolt and STL-10s were used for the same purpose during the Cold War.

  • When the siren pointed at the camera I had to turn down the volume on my computer.

  • Duck and cover and -- you are a little whisp of carbon in the first 3/5s of 1 second anyway.. DoD comment is 100% true, plus anyone with a reletive in the Air Force that went to work at the "farm" every day in MO or KS -- knows we would have pulled the trigger and M.A.D. may not have been as Mutually Assured as anyone thinks. A horrible war with a death toll that would make a Sociopath cry? Yep. End of the world? No..

  • FEDERAL SIGNAL -- The Worldwide "BOSS" in Sirens NO COMPETITION. R.I.P. Uncle Mitchell "Mickey" Dunn -- my Uncle who worked there for many years!

  • @ChristopherSaindon actually one could argue that ACA/ASC was a better company pre 1990s siren wise, and from then to now they are undoubtedly the better company.

  • justen beaver and rebeca black must be comeing to town

  • This is so great.

  • one day that sh!t is goin to turn on and scare the sh!t out of every one

  • those sirens scare me so much!

  • @TheOreoDude123 i know right good thing wee dont have a siran

  • @TheOreoDude123 they are supposed to

  • @TheOreoDude123 I prefer mythological sirens anytime

  • @TheOreoDude123 agreed man theyre so creepy...

  • @TheOreoDude123 I remember hearing those sirens here in Kuwait during the second gulf war. I both love and hate it. love it because it really gives you that 'WORLD IS FUCKED' feeling hearing it. When you think of an alarm siren the first thing that comes to mind is the precise sound this thing makes. I hate it because of the dread I associate with it. you expect a bomb to smash through the ceiling at any moment when you hear that thing.

  • chuck Norris farted

  • lol I live there

  • Comment removed

  • this is more sic then silent hill

  • ALRIGHT, WHO SET MY ALARM CLOCK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Robotic voice: NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED!!!

  • God i love the sound of Thunderbolts!

  • ILL PLAY THUNDER BOLT IN ATTACK MODE WIT A TWISTER UPGRADE..THAT INCRESIS HIS ATTACK TO ..........OVER 9000!1!1!1!1!

  • i think i just shat my pants

  • this gives me the chills

  • cool........zombieland come :P

  • i think santa is scared now

  • is this chopper level 4

  • @soccerk8te38 it is on #5 actually.

  • When I was going to school in the fifth grade, the school I attended had one of these T-Bolt sirens. During tornado drills, the teachers taught us the same duck and cover procedures in the hallways, but in our case it was all about the tornados. Never did they mention anything of a nuke attack, and I have to say I wonder why. After all, it was the mid 80's and the Cold War was still going on I believe.

  • @YouthfulElf Cause they realized by then, if a nuke is gunna hit ur area, ur dead no matter what u duck and cover under.

  • @ECgod77 Okay then! Fair enough! By the way, have you ever seen the Duck & Cover movies? Suppose that was just government insurance against public unrest?

  • @ECgod77

Hardly, M.A.D. is a load of cock and bull. You seriously need to research into this subject, the DoD has put decades and billions into research and development...I've got over 347 manuals evolving around NBC.

  • It sounds like it has a rattling problem. Or it's the mic.

  • Can you imagine having your ear right on it???

  • @TheRealFurryFox You'd probably rupture your eardrum.

  • The sad part is that one day in the near future all these sirens will be used for their original purposes.....

  • 0:05

  • moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOO thats wat i hear lol

  • This is... only... a... test???

  • @kardas4210 lets hope

  • Thanks for the video.

Odd, with all the potential terror attacks most cities have no warning sirens of any kind these days.

A little late to be sounding the alarm, the Chinese communists now own 60% of America and the wealthy few own the other 40% and they own everyone in Washington. No need for the old attack mode sirens I guess, the war came and went, it is all over, and America we knew was defeated and no alarms were sounded.

  • Wow, what happen if you stand in front of one of these?

  • @999SilverDog You die.

  • @999SilverDog Deaf, your ears would bleed.

  • @999SilverDog 128 dBs at 100 feet so you would be in trouble. imagine a machine gun going off next to your ear with continuous sound and you could guess what would happen.

  • Reminds me of silent hill

  • i got shivers in my back when i hearing this sound.

  • @brokenconsole1 LMFAO!!!!!! 2 thumbs

  • chuck norris's alarm clock

  • Mabey you should'nt have put the telephone pole in the picture.

  • @42warman why? this is how most Thunderbolts are mounted.

  • "The jerries are coming lad! man the ack ack!"

  • @souljadicktellem potato mashed!

  • this recording really captures the up close sound without simply compressing it...it gives us a taste of how these t-bolts shake up the spinal cord!

  • @brokenconsole1 No kidding xDD lolz

  • Got to remember the thunderbolt :)

  • That sound will always ring in my ears

  • Told you I got a 25 kill streak... NOW SUFFER LITTLE CHILDREN!

  • Sounds like adelle and I hate her

  • Ok WHO PRESSED THE BUTTON ON MY DESK!!!?????

  • imagen waking up in the middle of the night hearing this. get to your fucking basement!

  • @firetemptations screw that! (unless you are just talking about some basic air raid)...the cruel irony is that those who would die in nuclear explosion or blast would be the lucky ones....you really wouldnt want to face the world after fullscale nuclear war and die the slow death of radiation poisoning, some cancer or starvation.

  • @Balnazzardi i there is some insight of a nuclear fallout use the story line of the video game Fallout

  • They have one of these Thunderbolts on the roof of croyden fire company. But not for Tornado or air raids. When the Trucks are leaving the station for a fire call.

  • the fucking! 2012!!

  • I had family over one night, so I cranked this up, put it on repeat, and started yelling. Ha ha ha...

  • I wonder what would this would look like in Fallout 3.

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH MY VACUUM?!?!?!?

  • Ahh the mighty Thunderbolt. King of outdoor warning sirens. Nothing says "you're in danger" as clearly as hearing that wail. These puppies should be restored, not replaced.

  • @drright71 i agree they are so cool and i love when my little sister freaks out

  • this noise scares the crap out of me

  • GO THUNDERBOLT!

  • I wonder if this sound is instinctually frightening?

  • omfg silent hill is real

  • OMG ITS COMING THE END OF THE WORLD!!! O_O

  • I still get chills up my spine everytime I hear this sound. From tornados to air raid drills it was the scariest sound a kid could hear back in the early 80's.

  • This gives me chills. Our tornado siren in my hometown of Soso, Mississippi is one of these. It brings back a lot of memories of thinking we were about to get blown away.

  • this sound gives me chills. I remember the missile crisis all too clearly.

  • LONG LIVE THE THUNDERBOLT!

  • Welcome to hell.

  • A standard activation for one of these sirens in Sedgwick County places it in three minutes of alert and about 45 seconds of attack/fast wail.

  • all jets scramble scramble airraid this is not a drill i repeat this is not a drill

  • This is my town's siren. I am so proud.

  • i love this sound idk why

  • If i turn my speakers up all the way, my house vibrates as it rotates towards the recorder

  • Me:enemy black man incoming its all over!!!!!!!!!!!

    Others:ok you went to far..

    Me: aww :(

  • i got goosebumps.....horrible memories.

  • cant u get in trouble for this at all

  • Guess who wants to build an old-time air raid siren, for AIR RAID WARNING USE! XD LOL

  • @RideOp74 guess who has a new ringtone!

  • Never used for a nucular bomb since none were ever dropped, but became famous as THE tornado siren! (which made the incoming tornado even scarier!)

  • @calimar28 XD Once I fell down the stairs, because I thought a tornado was coming, and I found out, "HOWDY HEY THERE! It's the FIRST Sunday of the MONTH there neighbor!" XD

  • DUCK AND COVER!!!

  • tactical nuke incoming!!! O_O

  • @abc12432

  • Ok this just made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and I went and looked out the window just to be safe LoL Great Video!

  • Thanks for the nostalgia. I'm moving back to my hometown with this siren thanks to you.
