  • What's with the little WM truck at 1:46?

  • what you get fired from WM for??? 310002 was my baby... Mack tri-axle with a McNeilis rear loader

  • @monko1265 Fired? Nope, did not get fired. I gave them a proper 2 week notice so I could finish college. It's kind of hard to take classes when you are working 6 days a week and close to 70 hours per week.

  • @FormerWMDriver i got fired... i threw someones cans on their roof 1morning cause the didn't put their stuff out.. lol i just lost my commercial 1man rearload to someone with more time & was sick of WM's bullsh*t rules & games...

  • how did that cart stay there at 3:17? did the part you hook the cart onto the tipper hold it there with that ledge?

  • @TrashMonkey29 Just hung the cart by the rim on a ring in the hopper.

  • @FormerWMDriver Yeah Sidney Torez Ive met him

  • I was in Louisiana for Mardi GRAS and the big company down there is SDT they have a cool logo you should check it out

  • @LilPaulTheDrummerBoy SDT is a cool company they were recently sold to Progressive Waste Solutions - (they are the same company that owns IESI, Waste Services Inc, and BFI Canada). The man that created SDT was very smart and I'm sure he has been paid quite well for this operation. Definitely an impressive little company. They almost had a reality show based on SDT too, I believe it was going to be called "The Garbage Men," but the pilot episode didn't do very well and the idea was dropped.

  • looks like you found the sweet spot of getting hits. Good job!

  • @giojoeg LOL - Thanks!

  • Hey on the McNeilus 101365, can you do a double dump?

  • @Mike3141981 Yep I definitely could!

  • @MrRex41591 That's good stuff! How long have you been there? I use to pick up south Santa Rosa for WM a few years ago. I knew a guy named Tony that use to run an older "BFI" colored AW truck in my route area - he worked for WM for a little while before switching to AW... no idea if he's still there or not. Republic letting you all keep the AW logos? Just wondering if you all have any of the new blue Republic trucks.

  • @FormerWMDriver u still ork at wm or no

  • @traxxasemaxxrules Nope, finishing my business degree right now.

  • @FormerWMDriver how was it drivind a garbage truck and what state

  • @traxxasemaxxrules I drove in Virginia and Florida. I love the solid waste industry, so to me it was fun.

  • i love the truck u used 2 work on with aaa!!

  • Nice job making that video Alan!!

  • nice trucks! i like the aaa trash dump style!

  • yeah ours is an older Florida model (we're in Wester North Carolina) and its a pain so maybe if i see a newer one i might change my mind a little.

  • @Rodney348 Really, did it happen to come from Orlando? I know they had several Leach's (about 2 years ago) before they upgraded everything. Now all I see are Mack MRU / McNeilus RL's in the Orlando area.

  • Nice slide show, thanks for posting.

  • @POLIT1963 Thanks for watching!

  • Nice just out of curisoty what is your favorite rear loader you ever used

  • Mack MR / McNeilus is my top fav! I drove 2 that I loved - 307426 and 309911. The first one is in this vid, and the second one is newer but it has 2 tippers on the back. If I could get a standard McNeilus with a DSNY modified Mack LE, that would be an all around great truck. I will always like Leach (my first truck was an IHC / Leach 2RII) and the Heil PT's too.

  • Oh allright you annd I like the same brands even though I have never opperated a refuse truck I would rank my top 4

    Mcneilus

    Leach

    Heil

    New Way

  • i would have to say that all of those except the leach are a good choice for me, i've been on all 4 a Heil has a real skinny ride step but ok, new way is basicly a McNelius real good riding step and good packer, but the Leach i would have to say those are the worst refuse bodys ever builtsteps are high packers are slow the flat blade makes it awkward to drop the blade and swing out. and the way the back of the hopper sticks out just gets in the way. the other 3 are good though.

  • @Rodney348 Yeah the older Leach's are annoying, but I like the newer ones. The truck I had at AAA Trash, I'm pretty sure it had the "fast pack" option because it didn't pack very slowly like the older Leach's.

  • Sweet pictures Alan! Who is that kid behind the wheel? knudge, wink, grin

Sorry I havn't realy been doing much on my channel! I've had the darn flu for about 5 weeks now! The darn stuff has been lingering on for the last 3 weeks!

Also, I'll try to get a picture of our 1st Tallahasee truck repaint! Boy does it ever look sweet! Sounds like I might just be getting one of the six that we purchased!

    They are realy nice trucks!

  • LOL, if you think I look young there, you should see my pics from when I was a MP in the US Army. A lady saw me with a M4 rifle, her jaw hit the floor and she just blurted out "are you old enough to carry that, you look like you are 14!" I was sooo stunned, I didn't even know what to say.

Can't wait to see those new pics!

  • LOL! Looks like they've almost got the 3rd truck all painted & ready to roll! I'll get them sent to you sometime by this weekend!

  • Nice.. I'll be looking forward to that.

  • Nice pics Alan! You look like your in High School! Great job! Like the cart in the hopper!

  • LOL, yeah I always look younger than my age... my dad has the same problem, for a while he looked more like my brother rather than my father. Glad you liked the pics!

  • That's a good thing I guess. I guess it runs in th family. :) I sure did!

  • What is a pusher axle?

  • A pusher axle is the axle that can raise and lower to help distribute the weight of the truck more evenly. The pusher is the axle that is forward of the standard rear axle(s) (can be seen on the rear loader - in the lowered position at 0:30) and a tag axle would be the same thing, but it would be behind the rear axle(s).

  • so since you youtube name is former wm driver are you driving for another company or are you doing something else

  • I'm actually out of the industry for the moment, I'm working on a business degree, so that I can return as a manager or to start my own company.

  • nice well if you ever need a driver hit me up cause where i live allied waste and waste management aren't hireing lol

  • lol - It might be a couple years before I have the footing to start a company.

  • well alright hoss good luck with your company man

  • I am a WM truck mechanic! That ICC bar looks like driver abuse to me! LoL. However I appreciate drivers that appreciate their trucks and their job! Keep up the good work...T.N of WM Oakland Ca...

  • ROFL! Actually the drivers before me bent that ICC bar all to hell (bet you've heard that a 1000 times LOL) - our mechanics did try to straighten it out, but unfortunately they didn't have the proper equipment to get it straight.

The mechanics at my old yard in Ft. Walton Beach, FL were definitely great, they did great things with very little.

I hope they keep you all very well supplied in Oakland and hopefully the drivers don't keep you too busy. =)

  • What time did you start at AAA and finish? Like time wise. Waste Management?

  • Straight from the "About Me" section on my channel:

I am a former driver for both AAA Trash (a division of Republic Waste Services) Jan 2004 - May 2004 and Waste Management where I worked for the Summer of 2004, Summer of 2005, and May 2006 - May 2007.

  • great job...

  • Thanks.

  • a you look young at 1.14 and why was the cart hanging in the hopper

  • Sorry it took me so long to answer... guess this got lost in the comments. The cart was being transported to another location on the route, and by hanging it there, I could still service customers. At 1:14 I was 22... so depending on your point of view, I'd say that's still young. :-)

  • but now you gettin OLD!!! LOL =)

  • LOL - getting there.

  • lol

  • I hate yardwaste, it sucks, these folks in houston county have no limit and they don't tie it up either, just throw it out there for us to get, average 16 tons a day, we got 32 yd mack mcneilus rearloaders, only good thing about the job

  • 16 tons a day???? fuck that is alot of yardwaste!

  • Oh yeah, and all in high 90 to low 100 degree wheather with a 100% humidity, I can do the job but the pay sucks for the amount of work, low moral company wide, but yeah fuckin 16 tons average, crazy huh

  • You wouldn't happen to work for one of the "big boys" would you... I know our moral at WM was pretty low at my old shop.

  • Damn! That's a lot!

  • You aren't kidding, I hated yardwaste, the only restrictions we had were that it had to be cut down to less than 6ft and the branches couldn't be more than 4inches in diameter. I spent a ton of time with a pitch fork doing that. DAMN 16 tons! That's a huge amount, and most of that stuff doesn't pack well. Could you actually get all that in one load (thinking wet grass and not as many branches)?

  • and at 1:19 did you bring your truck home and park it in your driveway? WM let you do that?

  • I was on a break and my route was literally a block from my house. Yeah I parked it in the driveway, and no WM does not allow trucks to be "taken home" overnight, plus many local laws prohibit commercial trucks from being parked in residential areas for any extended period of time.

  • u drove some pretty cool trucks! im thinkin about getting into trash removal when im older...seems like a pretty cool job what comapny you think would be better?

  • dude if you had any brains at all you'd think about doin something else, seriously. You work rain or shine, hot or cold sunny or cloudy and yes holiday's and ontop all that no respect from anybody for doin it. Please do something else, I've done this for 9 years and finally gettin out to a better job and it pays, it's hard work, day in and day out

  • thanks man,. was only a crazy idea i had....im more then likely gonna do heavy equipment anyway.....but yeah thanks for the advice

  • If you decide to get into the garbage industry, I'd opt for a smaller hauler. At a smaller hauler, its usually a more relaxed environment. No matter who you end up working for, just remember that the first 2 weeks on a rear loader will be the hardest of your life. If you can survive that, you'll be fine. Like marc7898 said, it's not easy work, and the hours are usually long. Most drivers work at minimum 50 hours a week, but 60 or 70 is common during peak times of year.

  • so this is all the trucks you have driven awsome

  • Yep, I've driven almost all of those at least once. Thanks for watching!

  • i saw truck 124 at the end of the aaa part.belive it or not they still have it.

  • Nice, glad to hear it's still going, it was one of the last Internationals that they bought. I think 132 was the LAST International, 133? was a Mack MR/Dempster (the ONLY one of that combo they had), then 134 and higher were all Mack LE/Heil. On that day, I was using 124 as a spare, my usual truck 119 was down.

  • yep. i saw it on flickr. thay dont have 133 or 134 anymore

  • I'm surprised they don't have 134, that was a fairly new truck.

  • they might. i will try to visit there 2 yards with the rear loaders and will see if they have it

  • Great video! I didn't know AAA was part of Republic. Every AAA video I've seen so far the guys are running. I like seeing trash/ recycle guys run!

  • Yeah those guys at AAA trained me to RUN!! Those AAA Trash trucks have to be the fastest rearloaders I've ever seen or worked with.. the guys at WM where slow except for a few of them, compared to most of the guys at AAA Trash that I worked with. Republic has a policy that if the "local name" is strong, they keep it for recognition when they buy out a smaller company. You should check out all of lawnboy1010's videos on AAA... (if you haven't already) that's how we ran, dumping carts by hand!

  • yip, more proof private companies do a better job than those publically traded comapnies like WM.....WM preaches safety yet practices the opposite.

  • LOL yeah... I think that once a company gets to a certain size... the only voice they hear is the stockholder. If I can start a small operation one day, I'm going to do everything I can to keep it private and local.

  • Def have to agree, I work for southland waste div of republic services, they suck cock now that they bought allied, we as employee;s got shit but they brought all their safty bullshit to us, private is the way to go, pays better and you get treated better from my experience's

  • safety vests-get real! safety glasses, fuck off man, pants.....yeah right, ask mangement to hump 35 tons of trash a day wearing those thick heavy duty work pants that give you camel toe all day..safety sucks!

  • when i went to my grandparents neighborhood in 2004, all i saw on trash day was a intl/leach w/ a cart tipper. still fun to watch! i still see some intl/powertrak commercials on the road always lookin for 119!

  • Any idea what that truck number on the IHC/Leach was? If it was 85... it might have been me... I drove that truck in the beginning of 2004 for about a month.

  • Awesome vid, loved how you did the titles as each company's color scheme!! Great collection of pics, favorite was probably the AutoReach tipping at the transfer station!

  • Thanks! Yeah that was my truck dumping out on a Saturday afternoon, I was the only truck in there, so I figured I might as well get a pic since I'm not holding anyone up.

  • Yeah, figured it was...working residential on a Sat.??

  • We ran 3 routes, twice a week... so that 6 days a week 50-70 hours per week... this is why I decided to go to school and learn business... residential trash shouldn't be picked up on a Saturday, it's just wrong. I really want to return to the industry but under my own terms and conditions -- with my own trucks. :D

  • Yeah I see what you mean, pretty uncommon to have residential on Saturday, I'd love to have my day be Saturday though LOL! Good luck on creating your own company! One of the things that would concern me is, where do you go when most places already have a set company to take care of it? Only other option seems like competition with a preexisting city/company that handles it....At least there'll always be trash to deal with :D

  • Thanks!

You aren't the only one that likes Saturday pickup.. that's what made it a pain.. LOL... everyone would continue adding garbage to their carts until I showed up. So I had to finish as fast as possible, or I'd end up picking up an extra ton or two.

Actually there's plenty of places across the US that allow individual customers (usually unincorporated areas) to hire their own waste hauler for residential. All I have to do is find a place that doesn't have many companies to choose from.

  • Oh and I forgot to mention... that extra ton or two on Saturday's, was usually grass clippings and other yardwaste, junk from cleaning, left over yard sale stuff, or that weekend renovation project...

  • LOL I totally understand how that would happen, everyone's at home and trying to fit as much in as possible! I'd just like it to be able to see the trucks every weekend!!

That's very true, I know it's the case for WasteCnxSL's area, I think WC pretty much dominates that region, with only a few other haulers. I know of one area locally that's like this, most other cities around here have a set hauler (or else the city) and that's it! I think many parts of LA are like what you said though...

  • I dont think they have 85 anymore.. I have a pic of 95 tho. Both trucks are international with a leach

  • I swear i see 119 alot. If I see it and the guys will let me take a pic then ill send it to you.

  • Yeah that would be awesome! Haven't seen any of those trucks in a long time, and if you see 85 around, get a pic of that one too. 85 is the truck I learned on, it's an old International with a Leach.

  • very nice! why do the aaa guys always throw the toter.. like it my video's ? very good video. What year did you stop working for aaa

  • I worked for them during 2004 prior to moving south and working for WM.

When I was there, all the guys I worked with swore that it was quicker to dump the "toter's" by hand, since many of the tippers were very slow. At AAA Trash they pay by the day, so it's to their advantage to get done as quick as possible, since they get paid the same either way. But yeah, AAA Trash is the only place I've seen where the majority of the guys will dump a cart manually.

  • Why leave Ft. Walton Beach? Too much Greg to handle? LOL

  • LOL, I'm guessing you worked there at some point?

  • Work in Mobile, where he is still(how?) in charge.

  • i see AAA trash trucks on the road sometimes whenever i go to my grandparents i try to go on a trash day. would have been fun if i saw you on route

  • Yeah, if you ever saw any in 2004, it could've been me. I was mainly on truck 85 and 119 while I was there. So if you ever see 85, take a pic for me, I'd love to see that truck again!

  • lol you make a mistake on the bin in the hopper?!?! haha takes tallent to get t hooked on the hopper wall! 5*s for sure. i didnt see the one of the can in the hopper on you myspace lol

  • I actually hung that on an O-ring that they use to mount the body on the truck with. I wanted to transport that cart to a different location on my route, so I hung it there... and I continued picking up trash while it hung there. Thanks for the rating!

  • haha. pretty cool how its not in the way of the hopper. very clever of ya i must say!

do u remember the reason for moving it? was it stolen or something?

  • Thanks. In that county, every person could choose their trash collector from 3 companies, so we had a huge problem with people canceling and then putting a cart out later to get free service. We had tons of carts out there, so I always tried to snatch the ones that non-paying customers had, and I'd replace broken or missing carts with the ones I'd find.

  • there i gave 5 stars,,,hope your happy!

  • Definitely am! lol Thanks for the rating! :)

  • Cool! You got a nice set of pictures there, loved the one at 1:23 of the truck unloading! That PowerTrak you drove looked neat as, noticed there was only a single cart tipper - residential truck? Like the AAA Trash Style - lifting bins manually :D Are a lot of these trucks still around, or... ? Great vid and pics!

  • Thanks! Yeah AAA Trash used mostly PowerTrak's for there rearloaders while I was there. Almost all of them were for residential, however they did have a few commercial rearload dumpsters. From some of the video clips I've seen from lahluv and lawnboy1010 it looks like they've upgraded a lot of the fleet to Mack LE's. AAA Trash is in northern VA, and now I live in FL so, I don't get to see them often, unless I'm traveling.

  • very nice. good luck on your degree. thanks for sharing

  • Thanks, glad you liked the pics! It's about time I made them into a slide show. lol

  • your welcome

  • Great job!

    5*s!

  • Thanks for the rating!

  • great job. really liked those ASL trucks. WM has a good variety of trucks. 5 stars and a fav. do you think you can get some ASL trucks in action? WM especially!

  • There aren't many ASL trucks near where I'm living currently, however, the next time I'm near my old employer (they are across the state from me) I'll see if I can get some of my former co-workers to let me tape them.

  • where were those trucks shot at THE WM ONES?

  • The WM trucks in this slideshow are from Fort Walton Beach, Florida. It's up in the panhandle halfway between Pensacola and Panama City.

  • Great job on this video, are you still in the waste industry bro?

  • Thanks! No, I'm not currently in the industry, right now I'm in college working toward a degree... I'd like to get back into it though, I miss ASL, I just don't miss the 70 hour - 6 day weeks... lol

  • sweet, maybe once you got your degree, a return to the garbage trucks? lol

  • What dod you do now? great pics!

  • Thanks! I'm doing the college student thing for the time being.

  • o ok. do you plan to do anything else with refuse trucks?

  • I'd like to get back in the industry... maybe one day start my own garbage company... but we'll have to see what happens.

  • whats that pink thing near the hopper at 3:24

  • That's the head of a 4 foot tall pink flamingo stuffed animal.

  • lol.

  • really cool man! thnx for sharing the photos, looks like you had some fun, maybe i'll be driving one someday

  • I'm glad you enjoyed them, my only regret is that I didn't take more pics when I was working. Hope to see you behind the wheel someday, you know WM will train you if you don't have a CDL... but you have to sign a contract.
