Just another day on the job. These are fairly small cats. At time I have the same problem here in Western Australia only in 793D and Fs. Mass Gross of 483 tonnes sideways down a 1 in 10 ramp. Bite marks in the seat!
@cnote4461 Not really sure. The wheelbase and the width are almost the same. My guess would be they are built wide for stability and short for manoeuvrability. Anyone else??
For this site....on that day....I would have preferred my Volvo articulated hauler....A40D or A40E. when it dried-up...put me back in the rigid hauler.
im surprised that was happening with more than one truck those two trucks passing each other on a slippery bend. just bloody waiting for a freaking disaster.
um hello .... call me stupid maybe ( oh hope my sons pic on the left doesnt show up ) on the wet... why not come up with something like they do in the snow... like chains etc....cash is my name...
Excuse me Fort Crack??? how freaking ignorant was that. Keep in mind this is a vehicle that is as tall as a two story house. Millions of tons in it fully loaded, and you don't want to deal with the ass end sliding out. Hubby tells me some wild stories especially about the Cowboys who think they are the top shit driving it. sheesh and you guys make fun of it.
@zinc20L yea it can be fun, especially when you pull the retarder all the way and do cookies in em. I watched my buddy do seven cookies down a haul road one night! It was freaking awesome, kinda scarey the first few times but thats the fun in it!
for the second or third time in a row CANADA received today the enviroment award of shame in Durban South Africa at the Climate conference - Thanks to the Canadians wich would not stop their government for doing these crimes to OUR earth - check it out on youtube and look for Oilsands + Canada ............GREED you cant breeze Canadians....
@rsx123 - Tracks are useless. It would have to travel at low speeds and all roads would have to be straight, other wise it would take for ever around turns, or to get to its location.
What this hill needs is a grader, some sand and it would be perfectly fine to drive on.. Instead of doing that, they filmed it.
@waults It get's old pretty quick going back and forth. I always looked forward to slippery conditions just because it's more of a challenge and it's a lot less boring.
Those trucks have a lock once thet start sliding it takes a few seconds but it will kick it and lock all tires in. Think of it as a differential lock on a $3 million dollar truck.
That's bad economy when they spins up with the truck fully loaded... And they're hard to manouver when they slips downwards unloaded, because the wheelbase is short. =)
@deathraiderlol sorts teh men from the boys, and the women from the girls Eh?, the drifting going downhill. and the power thru the uphill climbs was impressive, id say anyone of those peopel could write their own checks lol.

I'm just curious - why do they make those trucks with such a short wheel base?

@javelinxd44 This mine is located right in a small town. All you have to do is stand on the berm around the mine and film away.
JimHowDigsDirt 2 weeks ago
@ thinkforthefuture. I reckon he would get over the tyres for the cost of the down time for the sake of a wet ramp

Need a grader and some grit on that road

why driving on slippery surface though?

I never understood why this thing doesn't use tracks instead of tires? Anyone know?
rsx123 2 months ago
@rsx123 I think cause of the weight of it. I think they cant turn if fully loaded if it had tracks

I'd be at work until they made me go home if I was driving one of these there, LOL.
Probably was a very tiring day, concentrating on not crashing a $mil truck in those conditions and still make cycle times.

Needs a tailgate! Short hauling by 15%! at least. Look at all the empty space on the rear end. That would help with their traction too!
