@tapper45 horizon flattened out: yes this happens when the rotor rotates, I don't know why
I have powered the FPV system with the flight battery but I think that's not the reason. Immediately after switching off the motor the effect increases!!! Please watch the landing of "Best Wind Turbine Building Video"
Do you use the factory settings of the WDR700 camera?
artifacting: That's caused by the Youtube Converter or too less video range, or do you have a video how it should look like?
i think the (artifacting) has a lot to do with the way the original video was rendered (compressed) before dl'ing to youtube.
what program and settings do you use to edit, render and produce your videos?
i use sony vegas pro 8 to make my more pro looking hd stuff but i have made short clips with the free windows movie maker that people think were professionally produced.
some people spend a lot of money on pro editing software but don't use it correctly and get substandard results
Gr8 video am buying this plane friday for a uav aswell and a predator what brushless motor are you using the multiplex brushless speed up grade? Thanks
Yes, the other one is from the F-16, the attack is an A-10 :-)
The jerky picture is caused by the Notebook, forgot to defragment the hard disk. I'm recording with uncompressed AVI- 30 MB/s. But if I am compressing simultaneously it is a huge effort for the processor. At my latest video the Notebook got overheated (maybe) because of the sun, didn't record the first bridge pass (only 1 fps).
I don't think there are problems like this with an external multimedia hard disk like an Archos.
Oh, the F-16 is such a cool and detailed simulator! Despite the graphycs the systems are so nicely reproduced :D! Once i learned all the radar modes and timings and tasks and it's great fun but i forget them later each time haha. Archos should be fine but i suspect only 320-half-size max resolution capture. I think i will follow the site you mention to buy 1.2 tx/rx( my rc tx is 2.4). I hesitate between it and the hobbywireless site but will prefere europe shipping.still building the plane :)
The notebook--i think the heat should be normal because the Acer thing we have here (looks similar to size of your notebook) heats terribly on the back side even when not processing anything. Fragment disk probably good idea for smoother processing. *thumbs up* for the good idea about keeping the image in the shadow while having the machine aired :D
Another solution for recording may be one of these databank "movie-cubes" they sell nowadays with A/V recording function.though costly still.
These videos are amazing, congratulations!
One question, how can you tell if the aircraft is going out of range when you don't look at it but look through it's perspective?
locouk 9 months ago
@locouk It's out of range if I can't control it anymore or the video link got lost
There is also the distance to the base station on the screen
muni86 9 months ago
@muni86 I mean, how do you know if it about to go out of range? You fly it a long distance from you.
I'd be worried about loosing it. :)
locouk 9 months ago
looks like it is time to step up to hobby wireless and buy a 1.2, 1.3, 2.4 or 5.8.
you need more range, a diversity receiver and controller, more power and definitely a tighter camera lens.
don't buy a cmos camer again either.
at least your initial purchase wasn't much.

i just watched your
"World's Best FPV RC Helicopter Video Of The First Flight Hour, Failed Fail Compilation October 2010"
your horizon flattened out a little bit but you still have a lot of "artifacting" in your resolution.
i have used that sony cam before with better results (not perfect though).
i use it for fpv downlink so i can fly but for recorded video i have a sony hdr cx7 handy cam.
it weighs a pound but my airframe is a 12' tele so i have lots of payload.capacity.

@muni86
that's strange.
i don't have anything here right now that i could try to replicate that effect.
i have experimented with different lenses to minimize focal distortion of the horizon but never experienced focal distortion from the prop.
120 deg of view is about the best middle ground i have found for reasonably wide view without too much focal plane distortion.
i use a sony sn777.
yt conv comresses some people's vids horribly but not others.

@tapper45 recorded with Canon MVX200i MiniDV Camcorder
Alparysoft Deinterlace used with Virtual Dub, saved to AVI Mini DV codec (Cedocida Mini DV Codec)
Ulead Video Studio 11: edited video saved as AVI, XVid Mpeg4 codec, best settings according to a tutorial website, quantizer 2
I see no quality loss at my footage, even a better quality than the recorded one because of deinterlacing
A Mini DV Camcorder should be the best recorder of all, because of the big file sizes/ almost no compression
muni86 1 year ago
@muni86
sounds like you have a more than capable nle setup.
my guess is that the youtube compression/converter does not like what it sees and/or is just not capable of delivering a good result.
tapper45 1 year ago
@tapper45 maybe the increase of brightness at the helicopter video is caused by vibrations or the shadow of the rotor???

I dont know too much about these OSD systems, but would you say the OSD provides accurate data?
sshukri0 1 year ago
@sshukri0 The OSD is working with GPS, very accurate except the altitude
There is a lag of 1-2 sec due to GPS

gr8 video an buying this plane friday for a uav aswell as a predator what brushless mototr are you using the multiplex speed upgrade pack? Thanks
jonshark1 1 year ago
No, I got the plane second hand and there was a Turnigy motor with 7x6 propeller mounted. For details look at the video info box.
Remember: bigger airscrew with less rpm is more efficient than a small airscrew at high rpm
The size of the airscrew is limited by the EZ* fuselage

Thnx.

Try to ask "nastycop420" or "chrijj" because of the multimedia hard disks, they are using them for recording.
But you need to build an external power supply with a LiPo Accu, I think "chrijj" takes the cigarette plug of his car.
