DO BLACK PEOPLE REALLY CELEBRATE THIS JOKE OF A HOLIDAY? I AM VERY CURIOUS. AND PLEASE DON'T PULL THE RACE CARD ON ME BECAUSE LOOK WHO WE HAVE IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
black folks are super musically talented and creative. ALL american music is rooted out of black experience from sorrows to joys. everything from gospel, blues, country, jazz, rock, hip hop, and even salsa is rooted in african peoples. Respect my ancestors culture and traditions. And seek knowledge.
@VANITYBONET So000 who invented Christmas, Thanksgivng, Valentines Day? Hmmph they must have just appeared yeah Right? So that makes them not phoney. The funny , funny babies none of their holidays are phoney. Bahahahaha.... when others Create something for themselves the babies get upset and name call awwww grow up spoiled baby ... the world doesn't revolve around you... i know you thought it did
@NickB1967 I actually studied the origins of all man made so-called holidays.
"Did you know that the quaint custom of Christmas caroling actually began with drunk and rowdy revelers threatening people door to door looking for food and liquor?" That the legend of Santa Claus described him as a horrible devil named Krampus who beat and kidnapped naughty children. In America during the 17th and 18th Centuries, celebrating Christmas was against the law. (History Channel). Pretty sickening Huh
Well we have the son fo a Chazzan (Cantor [Irving Berlin]) write "White Christmas" so why not have a Jew write a Kwanzaa Song!! After all there are black jews in the world (sammy davis Jr. to name one)! I am still trying to figure out Berlin's line in White Christmas where hes says "Just like the ones I used to know", he never knew Christmas except from what he observed!! He knew Chanukah! Oh well I am just having a little fun!!
if this song offends you (and i'm not offended at all), please watch the rest of the segment, where DL interviews people on the street who dont celebrate kwanzaa for various reasons...like they arent into homemade gifts and there aren't any good songs. i thought it was very funny.
so far i havent found it posted on youtube, but i'll bet it's somewhere! enjoy!
"Lighten up"??? You cracka crack me up!! Fo realz doe, that song should've been more offensive than it was. Shame on you, Hughley, and your light-hearted satire.
Who taught you english?! We Jews are the last one who should be offensive of anyone!! After we have Black Jews, they are from Ethiopia!!I have Black Jews in my synagogue (they are converts not Ethiopean Jews), They would not find this at all offensive!! You need to lighten up!! How was this a poke at you wonderfully rich Culture, if anything this song, from what little I know about the holiday, is endoursing it!, and teaching about the holiday, promiting Love of Neighbour! Happy Holiday!!
I have been Black American all my life. First you may want to say that the song should not be "offending", but "offensive". (I am an English teacher.)But come on, he didn't say one bad thing about anyone, Black, white or whatever. The reason we as humans can't progress is that everyone is looking for a problem. Hey, the man actually KNOWS the traditions of Kwanza, which is more than some Black people do! As a convert to Islam, I am tired of hating and separating! Try a smile instead of groaning!
@ImanZaineb I find it interesting that you profess to being an English teacher and a black American but cannot spell your holiday correctly. Did you know that the founder of Kwanzaa, Maulana Karenga, said that "it is meant to be an alternative to Christmas, that Jesus was psychotic, and that Christianity was a white religion that black people should shun?" Not groaning, simply smiling that anyone can take this seriously.
I heard this last night and found myself singing it today...I don't think it is meant to be really funny, it has a few cute lines but I think it could be a serious kwanzaa carol!

Yes, what Kwanzaa needs is some songs by Jewish composers. Everyone knows, the best Christmas songs were composed by Jews.

@yellscarf2719: that's a good little dupe. "Calling names" to you means pointing out the hateful and sickening origins of this "holiday".
