I would go for KMnO4 with Al, as that has worked better for me than Mg

To get better results with Al Id use KMnO4/Al/S

best place to get KMnO4 would be at a chemists or if you live in america i think you can buy it in tht place called sears or something or apartently at hyrodponic shops for iron water filters i think,also found in some survival equipment packs to be mixed with glycerin to make fire

It depends,iv tried it before with KMnO4/Mg before and had little success but maybe thts because i wasnt using Mg powder,it was magnalium filed from a firestarter bar and is not very fine,maybe adding sulfur to the mix may lower the ignition temp. but will grealy increase the sensitvity.KMnO4/Mg ignites well when glycerin is added(good underwater explosive)

actually KMnO4 will work with shitty Mg. the stuff from the firestarter is not magnalium it should be just Mg. give KMnO4/Mg a try in 60/40 ratio. Also do u have Zn?

i have trouble igniting KMnO4 with Mg filings with visco,it always ignites when glycerin is addded though,it must be the heat causing the KMnO4 to give off oxygen readily and so there is a plentiful supply of oxygen for when the Mg inites,blah blah cant really be botehred with that right now.The 60/40 is what i use and yes i do have zinc(600 mesh) it works well but its kinda slow but gives a nice grayish/blue colour,it seems to work ok in firecrackers
