What you experienced is a normal fair-water spout. The winds are normally calm. Its not a tornado unless it goes on land. They usually develope in moist areas with a little verticle wind shear. It happens when cold air and warm air collide and forms a vorticity, or measure of spin. The convergence strethces this vorticity and makes it spin faster and creates a vortex
Hey, love the video. When and where was this? You don't need wind, and you dont even need a thunderstorm for a waterspout. I would like to know, did a thunderstorm form this waterspout? thanks.
I remember seeing this on the news, I think it was over the summer of 07, and there was no thunderstorm from what I remember. It was a perfect day with no rain.
According to the National Weather Service and N.O.O.A., fROM 1950-1994 New York had 250 Tornadoes and Montana had 238 Tornadoes. Today, The Tornado Frequency has increased for everyone, including Montana and New York. Question: How come New York State has NO Tornado Sirens when they had MORE Tornadoes than Montana (a state that DOES HAVE TORNADO SIRENS)????
i remember this!i was in the east and i had a terrible lightning storm where i was in, and i was in Long Island too.. so it was cool, it blew off 2 trees :P
I never heard of one happening on the Sound and I lived near Setauket harbor for almost 20 years! It was just something that was never thought of. Here in Florida they supposedly happen all the time on land and water but I've never seen even one that didn't touch the ground.
dude i heard about that. you know how we have the Rader on the weahter channel right? well it just had a lil green dots not like it was bad at all. We usuarly don't get them here on the island too...also that wasl ie kthe only weather the whole day, it was sunny in central suffolk county where i lived
Waterspouts can have really weak winds compared to tornadoes. Check out my videos. I recorded a pretty strong waterspout over the sound here where I live. This one was pretty wild! check it out under my videos
I wish kept filming i needed a laugh.
