  • Does this work in express

  • @sportstechdude Yeah, it will work in FCExpress.

  • @finalcuthelper Did you watch the video in it's entirety?

  • how to you cut the body into different peices

  • Awesome !

  • Hey ormaloon,

Read through the thread here to see if you can find the answer to your question.

    Jared

  • Just found your tutorial - very nice. I would like to see just how you isolated the scooter dude using cropping, luma key and the colour key...

  • Pause at 0:12

  • how do i make a freeze frame for the man

  • @elijahvivio1996 In the 'Modify' tab. it is towards the top of the choices. Move your timeline frame to the frame you want to Freezeframe and presto. Good Luck.

  • i just got final cut express and i had no idea how to do a few things in this video it helped me out so much you have no idea im going to do this tommorow

  • BEST HIT BY CAR EFFECT AND TUTORIAL ON ... THANKS MAN THANKS ALOT!!!!! :D

  • Nice !

  • thanks loads

  • oh ok thanks you helped alot

  • @mman200 No sweat. Hope it woks out for you.

  • how did you cut up the body into pieces?

  • @mman200 The easiest way, would be (in Final Cut) go to 'Video Filters', then pick either 4-point or 8-point Garbage matt. Make copies of the freeze frame clip you are going to cut up and then proceed to garbage matt everything but just the torso. Thank cut up a clip to matt out everything except for just the head, and then just the derrier, etc. etc. I think I used 6 separate clips to animate the dude.

  • @jaredcicon thanks that helped but im kind of a noob so how do you matte things out i forgot

  • @mman200 No problem. In your timeline select the clip that you have freeze-framed that you want to cut/matt. Go to: EFECTS>VIDEO FILTERS>MATTE>EIGHT-POINT GARBAGE MATTE. After you have done this you will find that matte filter in the filters tab for that clip in the VIEWER pane. You will notice numbers 1-8 on the perimeter of that clip. Use your mouse to drag those points wherever you want to get rid of image data and to isolate just the part of the clip you want.

  • how do you layer these clips? im having trouble with cropping and adding them all together

  • @heyguyswhatsup100 When you start at the impact frame, all of the clips should be in exactly the same place. Where you place them over time (in motion) is up to you depending on what type of action you want to portray. Because you have use garbage mattes and keys (luma and/or color) to get rid of everything else doesn't mean the position of the frame should change. The only time it changes is at the point you decide the guy is HIT and you start articulating his body for the desired effect.

  • I needed this. Thanks man.

  • You are welcome buddy.

  • Thanks for the tips. I lLOVE your videos

  • No sweat. Thanks for subscribing.

  • Jared. Thanks for sharing this video tip. You make it look so easy. Great job! Makes me wanna play in the street, on video of course :-)

  • Jared,

Great job. Thanks for the tips. Loved your Doritos video by the way. We are #2377. Obviously, we need to watch more of your tips.

    Thanks Bruno

  • You should have hell lot of more viewers!

    Thanks so much !

  • Thanks Tina.

  • I did end up watching this one.....after the cput1 version. It wasn't too long...it had a purpose...you had the audience...nice job!

  • Thanks pkwentworth.

  • Great video!

  • Cool! Sorry it got too long before I got to view this, but I sure am happy I did now :) Thank you for sharing those tips :)

    Oh, just 2 questions :)

1)What kind of camera do I use? Can I use a simple Sony Cybershot with the video mode function? Or do I have to purchase me a real handycam?

2)Is Final Cut Pro available for Windows users?

    Thank you!

Once again, a great video from the great Jared Cicon!

  • Any camera will work Gershom. If you are going to buy Final Cut, get the express version. It is a lot cheaper and has all of the controls you will need to do this.

  • can i do it with vegas pro ?

  • No 100% sure about Vegas Pro. But this type of editing only requires the simplest of editing tools so i am going to say YES. Give it a shot and you will find out. Be sure to pause the video on those optional pause frames spots. They provide some very useful information.

  • Great video Jared. I've cropped parts together and have done many of these techniques yet watching this gives me even more ideas. It's amazing what you can do with nesting and layering. Please keep 'em coming!

  • Hey PS,

Thanks for watching. I now it's not the shortest video on YouTube. Just something I wanted to do for some fellow YouTubers.

  • Your amazing!

question: did you ever go to a film school or program? if so, where? i'm currently trying to figure out the best school to go to for filmaking. :)

  • Hey Kondra,

How is my 'Jacob loving' friend? I think I need to read the books to better understand your channel. I feel like I am missing out on something huge.

No I didn't go to school for editting. When I want to learn some thing, I tend to read a lot more about it, than any professor would require. In this way I learn faster and at my own pace.

I also tend to practice over and over and over again.

Thank you for the props. You are in the top 5% of 'kind' people here on YouTube.

  • very good!

  • When Marnie speaks, Jared listens.

  • buy low sell high!

  • great vid!

  • I know, I know.....I've lost my motivation for youtube....one loss too many, ha.

Videos were always just a hobby, side show, now that I'm haven to use it to make a living (on top of speaking) I just....you know.

But never fear, I watch all of yours and take detailed notes. ;)

  • Hey man. I know where you're at. Over the last 3 months I came in 2nd in several contests. Instead of making serious cash I was awarded gift certificates for bon bons and crap like that. Chicken nuggets don't pay the rent.

Go to my blog Vince, and read the article "Why I just turned down $3,020.00 from a video contest. You more than most will understand.

I will email you the link.

  • i love buttons lol

  • i love bubba brand.

    burning man huh?

  • haha man that one cracked me up. before that i had "smooth" by supered86. have you seen the REAL wreck i was in? watch?v=_ke2iTX73Qk

  • Thanks Josh.

  • Great stuff, Jared! Thanks for sharing. Helps us little guys out a lot.

  • Wow, a Leadrunner sighting. Where you been man?

  • Thanks, man... I frickin' LOVE tutorials. How geeky is that?

  • Great vid. Very informative.

  • Thanks buddy.

  • ooh maybe it's time I start using Final Cut, now that I know something about it.

  • Jared this is AWESOME! Hmmmm...I think I'm gonna get hit by a car in my next music vid. :) Thanks for sharing skills brother!

  • nice, i liked the video, i used adobe after effects to do effects like these, but it's good that you can use final cut

  • jared your so awesome! thanks for sharing the video on how do it.

  • Hey Drew and Bryson,

Keep me posted on the flick. I dig the wispy locks of fro blowing in the breeze from your lead actress. She also has some acting chops.

  • I wish I had final cut pro. Windows movie maker is somewhat limited...

  • Sorry to hear that man. But yeah, if you can crop over time and layer clips (there are some relatively cheap programs that let you do this) you can do this effect. Christmas is coming. Write Santa a letter.

  • Hmmm, you know I think I will do just that. Santa can't refuse me, I've been a good boy all year. Well, most of the year at least :)

  • Mail the letter now.

  • Wow, I thought you had done this in After Effects or Motion. Good job! Great tutorial for anyone who doesn't have AE/Motion.

  • Everything is executed in the single F.C. program. I think similar to a well executed card trick...like the hand....FCP is quicker than the eye. I hope to encourage editors to try new things. What are you working on these days buddy?

  • I've been blessed to have picked up lot of new paying jobs for commercials/promos, so I've been busy with that. Working on shooting a really exciting promo video that will hopefully go viral. Should be up online sometime in November or December.

  • Thanks for the lesson!

  • Hey, I didn't think you go to YouTube and slum with the rest of us. I thought you were just a big time blogger.

  • Big TIme Big Mouth maybe ;)

  • Ha ha ha, 'THATS' what you and I have in common. No I understand. Ya know sometimes ya just can't see the forest......

  • Thanks for sharing Jared!

  • Thanks for being a Shareee Jason.

  • That was great. I am going to try that now.

  • Thanks Shannon, let me know how it turns out.

  • Hey Jared,

Awesome video....you should do more tutorial videos!!!

Hope all is well with you and family.

We took 2nd in the quiznos contest.

    Dakota

  • Hey Dakota,

Wow, sorry to hear about the 2nd place finish. I enter contests for 1st place, anything less is just uncivilized. Get em on the next one man.

  • Great video... always wondered how you did that! :-)

  • Thanks BrAdFeRd.

  • Thanks bro! What kind of PC do you edit it with? I heard HD takes a monster amount of memory. Thanks Jared!

  • Nice tutorial Jared! Really enjoyed getting a behind the scenes peek of your artistry. Very cool.
