Just got a point to make, I'm a atheist in case you were wondering, well apparently no one ever believed that the earth was flat. It has ALWAYS been considered spherical. Even by the ancient civilisations. It was more believed, by idiots, that the world was a sphere encompassing a cube. Just had to point that out. I'm pedantic like that. Oh, and we can bitch about creationists all we want but they won't change, another thing that needed pointing out.
An argument creationists should not use is this; creationism.
The entire concept is bullcrap, and doesn't have a scientific leg to stand on.
Creationism is a political movement trying to give beliefs a false veneer of science, but even though they might con a bunch of hicks and other assorted slackjawed homeschoolers. They aren't going to win their little crusade against knowledge.
"Persistently using discredited arguments is both ineffectual and, more importantly, immoral—it's the truth that sets us free (John 8:32), not error."
Ok i'm Catholic. I believe in god and all that. But people not understanding how to read the bible is the biggest missconception there is.
The Old testement was never inteded to be taken 100% literally by readers. Most of it was for the Jews 4000 years ago. Stories like creation was NOT supposed to be EXACTLY what it says, but just say that god played a part in our creation.
And a thing science doesnt explain: What created the big bang?
I have to disagree - honesty is always the best policy so if we don't know, we say so until we find the answer. It may be impossible to know but that is no excuse for making up false answers. If you say God did it, my response would be How? How much energy was required? Does it take more than 1 god? Could a human do it?
god is a contagious delusion responsible for more evil than any other human concept, misconcept or group of consentual actions however inspired, conspired or instigated... The probability of there being a 'god' as defined by religion is so slim as to be unworthy of any intellectual consideration... A belief in such is no more than a manifestation of the frailty of our existence and ignorance... A more honest answer is "As yet we do not know"...
Funny isnt it? You saying God is responsible for all the evil. Ever heard of Hitler? Stalin? Pol Pot? Your average criminal who is locked up for killing someone? Garrentee you they were not religious people. Sure the crusades killed alot of people and they were apparently acting on behalf of God but I would safely say that more people are dead because they reject God.
If you believe the bible then god is responsible: Isaiah 45:7 'I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, & create evil: I the LORD do all these things'. Hitler, Stalin & Pol Pot were creating their own pseudo-religions based on state worship.
First the old testament is full of violence but alot of the time Israel was defending its self. Also the old testament IS NOT meant to be taken literally like a history book.
But Hitler, Stalin & Pol Pot rejected christianity. Stalin even slaughted priests and destroyed churches. This was an attempt to make himself more like a god on earth (although he wasnt trying to make himself a God, just be worshipped like one)
'the old testament is NOT meant to be taken literally'
Nice. God, creation of the world, fall of man, miracles, and many a great prophesy is just not a literal 'happening' but more so a collection of linguistic suggestions. Hmm yes, sounds like children dying and monkeys shitting to me^^
Leave Pawluk44 alone. If he wants to bath in the juicy delight of the holy jeebuz, let him. I, for one, have tasted the nectar, and I must say, shit and bull should be closer together and switched in order in this sentence to gather my meaning^^
@Pawluk44 its funny, because Hitler was roman catholic and it has been statistically proven that there is more of the christian population in prison than the atheist population. and i really dont think that belief/lack of belief will cause your doom, unless of course it is caused by people who don't share that belief.
Yes it was suposed to me interpereted literally. The Acient Hebrews litterally believed that the earth was flat. I think the idea of taking the Bible metaphorically actually started in Germany if I'm not mistaken.
why do you think the big bang is what started the universe?
what if their was a universe before it and it collapsed into itself because of a super massive black hole? and then that collapsed and formed the big bang?
yeah and your ignorant beliefs tell you to just stop trying to answer these questions and just settle with "god did it"
Science's goal is to find what comes before that and before that and with every new scientific breakthrough another part of faith is totally discredited
but there are still idiots who wont believe what can be proven and just say god did it because its much easier to understand to them
So why do scientists say that they have no idea what was before the big band, we may never know but it was deefinetly not god? If science's job is to provide answers then its not doing its job. I would like science to tell me what made the big bang. The ONLY explaination we have is There had to be some sort of powerful force to create it = God.
I would love to see the look on your faces when you die and realize you were wrong.
because your to stupid to read a book thats not a bible?
i mean come on you know this shit takes time and research
modern science and physics have just hopped up on the scene like 200 years ago
we're still making adances every day
but no youd rather believe something written by an illiterate sheep herder 2000 years ago who dictated all his words that were probably messed up by his scribes
Hey speeps84.. I was going to add to the forum, but instead I read what you typed, and it's pretty much exactly what I would have wrote. Very well done, and I agree with all your posts. Two thumbs up!
@Pawluk44 Why is god the most reasonable answer? You can't just arbitrarily pick some answer as being the most reasonable one. Something that happened so long ago is obviously going to be difficult/time consuming to find out about. There are ideas in the scientific community about the cause of the Big Bang, but we don't know yet because we are still gathering evidence. We may never know. But a lack of scientific proof is not evidence for god any more than it is evidence for a magic sky cat.
Religion, I feel is the most contradictory subject to argue about. When arguing religion versus atheism all the religious can do is quote from the bible which has been written and altered for their religion. The only "pure" remaining religious book is the Qu'ran and even that has been re-interpreted many times.
If you are looking for the most original form of religion the you cannot go past the Australian Aboriginals religion - pur nature worship attributing spirituality to animals & the land.
It still incorporates tales to inspire people to follow it. The basis and fundamental property of religion is stupid to the last core because it's to get as many people, or everyone to follow it. Escentially all religions are insecure as they feel the need to expand their religion courting everyone into their set of beliefs.
During my research in the last 10 years I have not
heard yet a single sensible argument from any Creationist which could favour the existence of god.
Belief is a delusion and in 21 century we are still having billions of peoples believing in this bull shit
called religion and scriptures. I hope it does not take another 1000 years for these people to stop living in a lie and forcing other people to do the same.
When you realize that the Bible is reliable and the Word of God you can see that if God is who he said he is, He must speak truth. Genesis was given to man inspired by God and must be true. We can only assume what happened with our "science" Our text books change as we learn more. God doesn't. God was there.
You are using circle logic - The bible is the inspired word of god because it is written in the bible - a completely invalid argument. We only have to assume 2 things with science (1) There is a reality (2) We can through observation & logic, test that reality. These tests prove that the bible is 100% BS in regards to its creation fairytales.
And your point that "text books change as we learn more. God doesn't" is correct. That means that science will continually refine our knowledge based on newer evidence while religion will ignore the evidence if it contradicts its beliefs. Only one of these processes leads us to the truth & it is not the religious one.
The Bible is true because of evadence that shows it to be true.Your "truth" is fact today and false tomorrow. Real truth is constant. Science has never proven any part of the Bible as wrong, but new evidance for the Bible comes out of the scientific community all the time.
"Your "truth" is fact today and false tomorrow." or have greater confirmation tomorrow. This is why evolution is the most commonly accept theory of life on Earth by the majority of scientists. Every new piece of evidence supports it & it also explains what we see in several different areas of scientific equiry. Creation doesn't.
science has never proved the Bible wrong ey? by that you must mean that you have rejected the science that proves your bible wrong. By this you might mean, anything that proves the bible wrong IS wrong, so science WILL never prove it wrong.
Just got a point to make, I'm a atheist in case you were wondering, well apparently no one ever believed that the earth was flat. It has ALWAYS been considered spherical. The number one argument creationists and theists alike seem to have is, WHO CREATED THE BIG BANG.
Nobody created it, it was fucking random, like everything else is in reality. Those people should be grateful to nature, not god, for even existing.

The most reasonable answer is "we don't know yet". Saying God did it stifles enquiry into possible natural causes.

This has been flagged as spam show
well we cant come up with a natural cause so I think its better to have some sort of explaination than none at all.

Indeed.
Claiming to knwo the mind of God, or truth thereof, is just lunacy.
Claiming to be ignorant of a great many things will enable many more people to sustain an open forum with you.
...and just for good measure - Honey Nut Cherrios are some BAMFs.

Time started with the big bang so to ask what was BEFORE the big bang doesn't make much sense does it.
