@jenniemisong The publisher provides the PDF files. Larry emails them to the students and the students install them in iBooks. He says that he rarely syncs the iPads to his computer. Most apps are installed by the students themselves.
@elemenous Thank you for the kind words. I've moved the ebook version to a new location, and I've changed the link on this page to reflect that. Please try agan. I hope you enjoy the ebook. I'd love to hear your feedback.
The students were using Adobe Ideas and neu. Annotate to open and write on PDF files. They were using iPad's Mail program and a class e-mail account to mail completed documents as attachments to the teacher. (PDFs are stored in iBooks.)
Dugasjoe--he teacher actually gave his students styluses thinking the same thing that you did. They abandoned them after a few days because they preferred using their fingers. It's not what we think--it's what they think that counts.
It would be great if all students could have access to that technology. I beleive that it would be better if we could use a pen on the Ipad. It would be a lot easier when doing math. Writing with your finger is not as fast an efficient.
Students switch partners every couple of weeks or so. The teacher has a class iTunes account using a class GMail account that is shared by everyone. There is no specific budget for apps--students can download free apps (and they frequently do) but paid apps such as Keynote are purchased through the district's volume licensin plan and are synced to the iPads by the teacher.
Its great the way that students are sharing and teaching each other as they are working through all different subjects. Do the students have the same partners or do they switch up occasionally or by subject? How does the instructor handle the itunes account? Is there a budget for apps? Has the instructor found that publishers are offering their material in a form that can be used on the ipad....so many questions! Thanks for sharing this experience!

This is wonderful! How did you get the Everyday Math Boxes on the iPads? Did you sync them one PDF at a time? How did you sync them at all?

@elemenous I should mention that it's a rather large download - 221 MB - so it may take a while for it to load up for you.
