i tryed wiring offroad lights like in your video with a fuse box, a 4 pole relay and a switch. but when i add the extra power to the 3 pole switch my switch burns. can i get help
@4x4broncos You would need to tell me exactly what kind of switch you are using and how you currently have it wired. Also, if the switch is burning, you likely do not have it's power feed fused - otherwise the fuse would simply blow.
if im gonna use a swicth for my holley fuel pump would i have to use a relay still i wasn going to use a fuse and switch for it but if i go with a fuse what amp of fuse should i use
@jeromeb619 It depends on which Holley pump you have. Regardless, I would follow the instructions that came with the pump. Personally, I always use a relay to power a fuel pump. Fuse it according to the instructions.
@jeromeb619 I outline exactly this in Chapter one of Automotive Wiring and Electrical Systems. I suggest you pick up a copy. There are many variables - current draw of the pump, length of cable between the pump and switch (or relay), length of cable between the switch / relay and source of power, length of ground cable on the pump, etc.
Hey, Tony Your videos are great and I have bought your book. I have learned a great deal from the book and your videos, especially about switches and relays. I have aquired an electrical trainer for my class and all of the relays in the unit are S.P.S.T. but have eight terminals. I have read your book Automotive wiring and electrical systems from cover to cover but see no reference to this type of relay. There is a slight reference to relays with more than 5 terminals on page 94
Great vids dude! Today I learned that the N/O contacts had continuity in the 5 pin SPST relay. I don't usually use them but it's good to know their purpose.
@manic74 You know, the older I get the more I realize that I don't know. Grab a copy of my book - I guarantee you'll find a bunch of tips that will save you time and/or money.
thanks this will help me rewire the cooling fan in my 84 Camaro z28 the engine bay had caught on fire and the wiring messed up :( but i look forward to some new videos.

This is pretty cool... but its easier for me to just open it up and look at how it works.
Btw, I love your workshop. Its an electrical engineers dream

Great video, hopefully more will learn how to use relays, I think your little test bench idea is great way to teach!

Great videos, I already thought I knew what I was doing but did not know about the five terminal spst relays. That is good to know.
