i am beginning to not think in terms of mac vs pc. more like premium vs. standard. so a premium netbook would be like a dell adamo or mac book air. and a standard netbook would be anything make out of ya know cheap plastic. and the standard ones would be great for someone that needs to check email and facebook stuff. but if you need something high powered get a premium. simple as that. now with windows 7only being a year to 6 months behind osx (just my opinion)

most vendors offer warrentys, some have 1 year some have 3, a lot even have lifetime warrentys, and your right theres no support, you are your technical support, most people when they build a computer know what they are doing and are comfortable working inside the machine, so they dont need tech support
@AppleSoldier Actually custom built machines have more support than OEM name brand computers.Most motherboards have BIOS updates for new CPU's etc.ASUS seems to have the best long term support.
Most of the components do have warranty's especially the CPU.

Apple's tiered pricing model makes Macs quite expensive, but really, they're not terribly expensive either. My ThinkPad didn't cost much less than a MacBook Pro, and you look at pre-built machines and they're not far off in price from Macs.

the mac pro has a core i7 xeon. the imac would melt with the current core i7, macmini: the i7 heatsink is probably to big for their case, and the p8600 is a decent processor.

Intel brought us PCI local bus, AGP, PCI Express and Quad Cores not Apple. Infact apple was always about 18 months behind the times until they opted to switch to Intel. Mac is better at video editing, but most pc can do graphics editing just as well since its cross platformed. some hollywood movies are made with premier, but most are usually avid and final cut. avid is very hard to use compared to final cut, and final cut pro is made to be much easier to use. and most hollywood companies use linux render farms to render the video. mac for the compositing, linux to render it.

I've been running vista on my laptop since January with no antivirus. I do a lot of my schoolwork and gaming on it when I have no access to my desktop. I have yet to have any viruses. it runs well. I also dual-booted it with Windows 7 for the past 2 months. No antivirus or anything. I'm surprised I didn't have to open up my Vista DVD to reinstall the thing yet.

Dude, Apple has a lot more overhead RELATIVE TO ITS SALES VOLUME than other companies. Apple spends almost a billion dollars every year on R&D alone. They also have to support their products (warranty, phone/e-mail support, etc.), market them (marketing campaigns, Apple stores, so on) and all of this adds up to a higher price tag. Computers are seriously not profitable, even with Apple's pricing, so they need more profitable products in their stable, like portables.

that is if windows is really bad, which it is not. it is decent, but not the best at stability, xp runs very well on my desktop. there are many variables that may crash any system, from bad ram, drivers, third party software, to viruses, or the user. The best stable systems I have seen are Sparc based. Solaris is one of the most stable os's if it is configured right. the main thing that crashes the computer is the person using it hands down.

i am beginning to not think in terms of mac vs pc. more like premium vs. standard. so a premium netbook would be like a dell adamo or mac book air. and a standard netbook would be anything make out of ya know cheap plastic. and the standard ones would be great for someone that needs to check email and facebook stuff. but if you need something high powered get a premium. simple as that. now with windows 7only being a year to 6 months behind osx (just my opinion)

most vendors offer warrentys, some have 1 year some have 3, a lot even have lifetime warrentys, and your right theres no support, you are your technical support, most people when they build a computer know what they are doing and are comfortable working inside the machine, so they dont need tech support

@AppleSoldier Actually custom built machines have more support than OEM name brand computers.Most motherboards have BIOS updates for new CPU's etc.ASUS seems to have the best long term support.
Most of the components do have warranty's especially the CPU.
By the way I've had a new Apple Store just open up less than half a mile from my house.I am going to take my original Macintosh serial number 2336 there to wow them.

Really I can find a pc with intel xeon x2 with 16gig ram and 6tb hdd for $5500NZ roughly $2750US the same mac pro cost $16000NZ about $8000US. Intel brought us PCI local bus, AGP, PCI Express and Quad Cores not Apple. Infact apple was always about 18 months behind the times until they opted to switch to Intel. I don't think any of the G5s ever had PCI Express (only PCI-X) but I could be wrong. At any rate they were on PCs way before any Apple systems.

I am a proud owner of 2 original Mac's both pre 6000 serial numbered ones (originally in the dealerships in Jan 1984).
Actually I restored them to operational condition as they didn't work when I obtained them.
Few of them still exist.
One had the serial number of 2336 and 5132 on the logic boards.
One day I hope to trade them for a new Mac (Pro).
I even have the tan carrying bag,external drives,imagewriter printer,modem and lots of software.

Remember that you have to add on the cost of a copy of Windows, which just adds to the cost of buying a computer. Besides that, there are excellent PCs out there too - but you have to pay a good bit, just like with Macs.

Most macs usually have a higher resell value because they are built better than most pc's and the operating system to most users. ibm's also sell high resale in the notebook area. there are BMW's in the pc area, not all pc's are pieces of crap you know, and sometimes mac has a bad product line once in a while.

Mac is better at video editing, but most pc can do graphics editing just as well since its cross platformed. some hollywood movies are made with premier, but most are usually avid and final cut. avid is very hard to use compared to final cut, and final cut pro is made to be much easier to use. and most hollywood companies use linux render farms to render the video. mac for the compositing, linux to render it.

This was stupider than I thought it would be and filled with bogus information. I think the Mac Pro and all the other Macs are uglier and much more useless than PCs. Those cheap $380.00 computers will work just fine to run MS Word and surf the internet. Why would my mom and dad need a $2800.00 HP Dual Quad Core system? We all now highend computers will cost more but not everyone needs a high end computer. The iMac is expensive for what you get and Apple does not give the customers many options.

imac expensive? Your wrong. the imac is an all in one so manufacturing is more expensive. PRICE ANY PC all in one and youll see the imac IS NOT high. Why dont i want a 300 dollar machine to surf the web? Same reason i dont ride a bicycle to work. Itll get me there but what a fucking hassle.

You are proving my point. I was the one who originaly posted that all in ones are more expensive and Apple does not give the customers much of a choice. Please post a link to the Apple Quad Core system with an Nvidia GT 250 for $999.99 or less. I have many Mac friends that wish Apple made a generic ATX case system and called it the Mac Standard. Most Mac user I know think the Mac Pro is uglier than crap, very old, worn out and lacks style. It is 2009 not 2003.

There is no doubt to anyone that Emeek is a complete ass wipe. PCs kick the shit of Macs hands down. Emeek is not going to show a video putting PCs in a good light even though they are much better and less expensive. Emeek cares so much about the in side of the computer because Apple is to retarted to put hot swappable bays on the out side of the case. Even the new HPs have two SATA bays on the front of the computer. Apple users must open their crappy cases to add a drive.

I can turn my mac on, REMOVE THE RAM AND HARD DRIVES WITH IT RUNNING and it will keep right on going. No pc can do that, NONE. I can pull 8gb of my 14 gb out while im working and wont lose a beat. Same with a hard drive. Your are a complete ass speaker who is grasping at sraws. I dont want swappble drives outside my case so any old fool can pull them out dumbass.

pc can swap pc; hard drives out, do it all the time with my sata drives. ram I would not pull out on any computer while it is turned on, because I am paranoid of something bad happening. hopefully the macs are decent enough for me when snow leopard comes around, because I dislike the overused memory usage in leopard and vista. thats why its linux, and xp for me.
Guess I will get a macbook, although I am going to wait for a graphics update because 9400m is too weak. only laptops are interesting.

I've been running vista on my laptop since January with no antivirus. I do a lot of my schoolwork and gaming on it when I have no access to my desktop. I have yet to have any viruses. it runs well. I also dual-booted it with Windows 7 for the past 2 months. No antivirus or anything. I'm surprised I didn't have to open up my Vista DVD to reinstall the thing yet.
Now, when will Apple start making those mid-towers?

88% run linux? Big deal? theres probably only a few thousand supercomputers worldwide so in the grand scheme of things that means fuck all. Most servers also run linux but last i checked linux's market share is maybe 2% or therabouts so again its a teardrop in the ocean.

You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Virginia Tech made a cluster of PowerPC G5-based Apple Xserves that made #6 in the Top500 list in 2004. Other organizations made impressive Xserve clusters as well, although not nearly as powerful as the VT one (less nodes)
Funny that the #10 supercomputer in November of 2008 was running, uh, WINDOWS HPC 2008.

Benchmark Destroyer to the Mac Pro and have them as the same specs. You're gonna see that the Mac Pro is a LOT more expensive. Of course then you'll argue that the Alienware isn't "pretty". Why would I pay $500 more to look pretty? We're in a recession dude, it's not time to spend extra money just to have your home look pretty.

Dude, that system can take up only i7. The Mac Pro can take 2. It's 8 threads vs 16 threads.
And the RAM limit is 12 GB.
So they don't have the same specs (at least not with the high end Mac Pro), and even if they HAD, Alienware is running Windows, which completely brings down all the other reasons why to use that system. Every single extra $ you're paying for the Mac Pro, is for the world's best OS. Even the best hardware is shit if it runs the worst OS: Windows.

Dude, Apple has a lot more overhead RELATIVE TO ITS SALES VOLUME than other companies. Apple spends almost a billion dollars every year on R&D alone. They also have to support their products (warranty, phone/e-mail support, etc.), market them (marketing campaigns, Apple stores, so on) and all of this adds up to a higher price tag. Computers are seriously not profitable, even with Apple's pricing, so they need more profitable products in their stable, like portables.

You can have someone who's not that strong, but knows how to fight, and is very good at it.
Who's better? The second one. That's the same thing, you can have very good hardware, yet if your OS is so horribly unstable and problematic, it's just not worth using.

that is if windows is really bad, which it is not. it is decent, but not the best at stability, xp runs very well on my desktop. there are many variables that may crash any system, from bad ram, drivers, third party software, to viruses, or the user. The best stable systems I have seen are Sparc based. Solaris is one of the most stable os's if it is configured right. the main thing that crashes the computer is the person using it hands down.
