  • @jch1259 The name of the video is How To Make the Basic Stitch. It assumes that you can do that already

  • lol I DONT GET IT!!!!!!!! this sucks

  • This tutorial was very helpful. I haven't knitted in years and I couldn't remember what to do

  • @nocalcetines oh ino, she may be very helpful to some but i just don't get it

  • this is a great video she explains every thing really well.

however AS IT TUNRS OUT i am a freaking MORON! shes talking about how she teaches KIDS this way yet ME a fourteen year old girl cant get my yarn to quit unraveling! my head hurts. "star trek the next generation " is starting in ten minutes . i think i'll just go watch that and come back in the morning. THANK YOU im gonna go crochet for a while. things make sence there.

  • uhhhh... mines not working!!! i dont know whats rong.... i dont no wich string to do the "around the flagpole" with... i tried both, and both didnt work!!! HELP!!!

  • Very Clear. Thanks for taking the time to teach and share this.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I've got a book i'm learning out of, but the pictures didn't make sense. I get it now, even though it's really messy. Thanks!

  • I liked at the first thing to load into memory nice vid bbbb

  • "in the front door out the back" lol thumbs up

  • I am amazed...YouTube Polices their videos VERY closely to make sure no one 'pirates' music, yet they let people post foul language just because they can't follow very simply and clear instructions. Tsk, tsk.

  • I am amazed...YouTube Polices their videos VERY closely to make sure no one 'pirates' music, yet they let people post foul language just because they can't follow very simply and clear instructions. Tsk, tsk.

  • thank you! its very clear now. :)

  • Thanks for captioning your video for deaf and hard of hearing.

  • Awesome! I can't believe people can't understand this video lol. Only thing is, how to start the stitch. I'm sure I'll find another vid on that one tho. Thanks for the upload! It was super useful.

  • THat would have been great help but i havent even started because i dont know how?...... Thats kinda what i thought a beginner dhould learn but i guess i was wrong..... my bad.!?

  • This was the perfect refresher for me. Love the rhyme! Thank you.

  • Very good. My concern is how do I finish it once I've knitted enough to end it. I have no idea how to finish it.

  • she talks loud and fast, hard to understand, can't even see what she is doing.

  • i wish i was good at knitting im so bad at i

    t:(

  • how do you cast on and like connect those to cast on i don,t know please help!!

  • hey, assholes.

This video was incredibly helpful. JUST because it's hard doesn't mean that her directions were hard to follow. Good video.

  • @giv3m33nvy lol u a lil angry i agree it is a good video :)

  • im worst knitter in the world... -_-

lol i dont get the first thing ABOUT knitting!

  • ?!?!?! How do you slip it out?!?!?! I;m so confused! I've watched every video on youtube about knitting but NONE of them have helped!

  • @glowstick- Yes, I keep watching the videos and am having problems with slipping it out too, I'd like to see that close up.

  • HOly heck you have 138,714 vids... girl....

  • nevermind i got it

  • how do u start

  • I watched this video, as well as Kelsey's tutorial for creating the slip-knot and casting on. Very helpful! :)

  • Her voice is so annoying... :/

  • this was so useless to me i tryed so many websites for at least a year and NONE OF THEM WORKED!! im so angrey

  • should my yarn keep extending when i pull out?

  • I want to learn how to do this, but this didn't help

  • You have to watch the video on how to cast on before you can make any stitches. This is actually a pretty decent video of a basic stitch.

  • You have to watch the video on how to cast on before you can make any stitches. You need to watch a bunch of videos before you will be able to make a swatch.

  • much harder than I thought,

  • The first step is called casting on.

  • Thank you for the great video! I like the rhyme you used to remember where you begin placing your needles. Very helpful! :-)

  • hard

  • This doesn't make sense........I think you skipped an important step.

  • How many people can get the yarn onto the needle but NOT know how to do a knit?? ._.

  • @alaine93 Watch the casting on video,

  • This fucking sucks. :/

  • @BaBylexi364- Yes, yes it does.

  • do i HAVE to wrap it around my finger?

  • Thumbs if you had a Sudafed advert before the video!!!

  • Wow. you're a horrible teacher.

  • Thanks for your great videos. I am close to being finished with my scarf I am making for a friend for her birthday. :)

  • Thank you, I just realized I've been doing it backwards all this time!So much better to have a person show you how, than to read it in a book!

  • Nice video and informative. I have been trying to teach myself to knit from a book and the diagrams didn't help, this video helped me figure out what I was doing wrong and now everything is going great!

  • that was a pretty good rhyme lol

  • wow! u guys are really rude huh? ur insulting her about her explaining skills and insulting her in general about her knitting when u dont even know how!

  • this does not help at all you know what would help??? IF YOU TOLD US HOW TO GET THE YARN ON THE NEEDLE AND YOU SHOULD TALK THE PERSON THROUGH HOW THE ARE MENT TO DO IT PROPERLY BY STOPPING AND ADDING FRGGIN STEPS TO IT..

GOD GAVE YOU A BRAIN USE IT FOR A CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @crystlcrystl She makes a separate video for that. If God gave you a brain, you would have thought to make a simple search through her videos to find it.

  • Not very helpful. I was lost at the @ 0:00 sec.

  • She shows how to cast on in another video.

  • @alaine93 and @honucan - Please note the title of this video. It is "How To Knit for Beginners: How To Make The Basic Knit Stitch". The knit stitch is not the first step in knitting, therefore you'd benefit from researching "How To Knit for Beginners: How To Make a Slipknot". I assume you've learned how to stitch by now, but I just wanted to know you should feel dumb. =)

  • Look up: how to knit: cast on

  • That's not for beginners

  • I am a BEGINNER and you need to explain how to put the stitches on the needle to start...nothing tells us how to get the first stitch on the left needle? Did you just tie a loop on it and knot it???

  • we need to know how she got the thread on the needle.she just showed up with yarn on the needle i need to know how to get started.

  • iv watched a lot of videos on knitting and she seems to be the only one who can explain it clearly enough i can knit now thank you

  • im only 11 and i know how to knit im in the middle of a scarf im a beginner XD

  • Just to let another person who commented, she does show how to cast on, she has another video on that.

  • Thank you, I wish you would have said that rhym more. It seems helpful!

  • I've just taken up knitting. The book I'm using done a good job of showing me how to cast on etc. I didn't understand fully how to do the knit stitch, and this video is really helpful in showing and explaining how to do it! Thanks!

  • This is knitting. She isn't explaining poorly, or leaving stuff out, she just didn't mention this is a later step in the process. The beginning is slip knots, then casting on. Try checking other videos, or search knitting casting on.

  • I took one class and was practicing all weekend with poor results. After watching your video I saw what I was doing wrong!! Thank you!!

  • @TheGandHShow - you know, if you can't say something nice or neutral then don't say anything at all; or did your mother not teach you this? Your comment shows your intelligence level; anyone that cannot think of anything to say constructive without adding "colorful and offensive" language shows that your vocabulary is extremely limited. I feel sorry for you.

  • @ljolly17 you know what, thats funny saying that to a person with ALL A's on EVERY report card, someone with an iq of 127 when they were 8 *average was 85 in my town*,and in all honor classes.HAHA FUCKING HA! and my mother died of cancer when i was 3. and i speak other words,im sorry im a stupid confederate redneck.

  • Great clip thanks. I'm just starting out and have picked up some good pointers at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • I think she's really helpful. I'm pretty sure she does cast on videos too. I learned how to knit from these videos. Finished two scarves, started less than a week ago. Thanks Kelsey. :)

  • She is so hard to understand , but thanks for the video!

  • I think this video and the the treadbanger how to knit are great together. I just got some needles and yarn this afternoon. After watching this video twice I have five rows on my scarf, and i just watched this for five mins. I rewinded it twice. i have tried to learn for a couple of years from all sorts of books. The how to videos are so much better thanks for posting this.

  • STOP SHAKING YOUR HAND!

  • I'm a beginner and I don't understand a thing what she's talking about. She should show the 1st baby step, like how to get the yard on to the needle. I think she should redo the video.

  • You all are right. She dosn't even show how to get the string on the needle. :( GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

  • These videos are useless to a true beginner.

  • um im a beginner an i wanna no how to get the yarn on the thing first and how to end... the 2 very important things

  • "Knitting Tutorial for Beginners- 1. Slip Knot" this veido is better, i just watch this, and with knowing anything about knitting, after watching this i feel like i am ready to go.

  • WATCH MY KNITTING TUTORIALS! I TALK YOU THROUGH THEM :)

  • i ususally like her videos but this one is stupid. and why the hell is all that yarn on the other needle. a beginner wouldn't know how to do that, dumb lady. and she's explaining way too fast. this video really sucked.

  • okay im lost??! how'd you get the yarn on the needel???O-o

  • I think she should start from scratch and show how everything is done.....I mean with nothing on her needles to start with it would sure help ALOT.

  • @mizsky15 expertvillage is known for making a ton of videos on one topic. there is one called 'how to cast on the knit' or something along that line. it explains it. you're watching the videos our of order

  • I liked this video, but I agree that there should be a serial number like this is part 2 for beginners. Otherwise, how is someone supposed to know what "casting on" is? I've never heard of these terms before I bought a book and THEN came to the internet. To assume that they've watched "casting on" when there is no indication that comes first means failure.

  • i failed ):

  • expertville....I NEVER get there videos, this video is so iditic because, if i'm BEGINER watching this, shouldn't you start off by showing me how to, oh i don't know...START THE FRICKIN STICH?!! god...

  • peoplez this video isn't titled 'Casting On',so look for another video that teaches that. This video explains how to knit after you cast on. You should watch this after watching a video instructing you how to cast on

  • i was learn the tradtoinal way that she is useing a throw over that takes 4ever im a beginner a knitting and at crocheting ima watcha call it that im not a beginner but.. ..her way takes to long..

  • i keep trying to find good videos but they all jump to this stitch, how do they get the yarn on the needles first? they really should cover that, if its for beginers start at the BEGINNING please

  • umm WAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Im not a fan of this video b/c it doesnt show what to do prior to beginning the stitch. How do you set up the sticks with the yarn?

  • Yes, I agree after the slip knot What do you do ?

  • @singingfan12 You have to cast on. Go to knit67's page and she has a really good video on how to do it.

  • how come every video i pick theres nothing to see acsep coments

  • oh thank you so much haha im just learning to knit and the book i had was horrible at explaining it!!!!

  • So when you're transferring stitches from the left needle to the right needle, once you've done it, you take the stitch off the left needle and just discard it? I've been studiously pushing it onto the right needle, and I always ended up with knitting that was too tight to work with after about two rows. So I have no idea if I can knit now or not, but rest assured that if I can, it's all thanks to you.

  • @pedgerow i've noticed i've been doing that too, once i loop it into my right needle it becomes too tight for me to continue :(

  • Seriously, I looked at 5 other videos before this one. This is the only one that actually tells you what to do. All the others either dont say anything, or say crap that make no sense.

  • I think I'll just pay attention (smile)

  • when i put the last stitch on the right needle theres this big loop :S which is confusing me cud som1 plzz tell me how to stop that from happening

  • this is harder than i thought =/

  • @mundanelifeof - -nod- I've tried so many videos...

  • Easy way to remember is in through the bunny hole, around the tree, out throught the bunny hole and off goes me!! Helped me learn :D

  • can some please help me is there a video out there for beginner pocket knitter

I just bought one can't figure out how to use it please help

  • OMG!!! Im SOO confused!!! I know how to case on, but Im lost when it comes to working with the other needle... please cant u do a video, where it SLOWS it down, and you can see step by step???

  • search 'Knitting Tutorial for Beginners- 2. Knit Stitch, Bind Off in Knit Stitch' She shows you what to do with the other needle after casting on.

  • i have NO CLUE how to even start to knit. I cant get the yarn the the needle. Please make a video for that and tell me

  • @PixieSticksRSweet search 'Knitting Tutorial for Beginners- 1. Slip Knot'

They show you what to do from the very begging & they do it in parts so it's easy to follow.

  • alaine93 thank you! i am thinking that exaclty!

  • Crocheting is way easier then knitting I used to knit but I realized that crocheting is easier

  • interesting...

I'm knitting for decades and have never seen anybody knitting like you.

When you twist the yarn around your LEFT index finger then you can go through the first look on the left needle with the right needle and pull the yarn throuh on to your right needle.

People, try it, it is less complicated than shown in this video. You will be surprised

  • how did you even get the yarn on the needle???? a beginner wouldn't know that

  • @alaine93 Notice that this specific video is how to *make the basic stitch*, not how to "get the yarn on the needle". There would be another video for that.

  • @alaine93 watch her other videos for that. i think it's a series

  • @alaine93 actully in a diffrent video she taught us how to cast on which is the first part

  • Comment removed

  • I just got home from a class on knitting & mysteriously forgot everything once I got home. But this was all the refresher I needed-great! Thank you

  • The problem with Expert Village tutorials is that they show things in steps but they don't number the videos, so they are hard to follow when viewed.

  • Plz make a video on how you START! This video is for BEGINNERS... so that means we don't know how to do ANY of this... so show us how to START. Is it that hard to do so? I think not.

  • I think she's just showing one type of stitch (I'm learning too, so that's what I gather). There are other videos- just type in "how to knit- the basics" and more basic videos come up, like how to cast on and go from there. Cheers!

  • My aunt taught me this, but I forgot everything but how to cast on stitches(which is also called first position)This didn't help me at all. I need someone next to me,not a diagram or a video where you can't even see what she's doing!

  • SAME HERE! My grandma taught me, and I totally forgot how! I need someone right next to me! I can't find any videos that explain what they are doing! I know how to do the stitches... I just forgot how to start... which none of the videos explain! I have a month til my mom's birthday and I really want to knit her a scarf but I have no idea how! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thats fantastic.

i think i may need to get someone next to me to show me this, as it seems so much harder then first thought. :(

  • thats retarded u dont show how you got into your first position

  • made life so much better

  • this is bs

  • ...Yeah, no chance of me figuring this out. She goes too fast.

  • Maybe I misunderstood what a beginner was; maybe they actually start knowing how to set up the needles like that beforehand?

  • way too complicated, she didnt even show how to get where she was in the first place.

  • rofl---Vette your are so right, it is kind of like having a dentist who talks with his hands.....make me very nervous

  • uhm.... enable for you to show us is to start with a fresh needles and everything.....cause when you do that it makes it seem so complacated

  • If your yarn is on one needle you are just doing the first stitch same as she is showing. She is already in the middle of the row.

  • But I have my yarn casted on to one needle. How do I get it onto the other..?

  • easy

  • right...... well im a begginer and i dont know what the hell shes talking about....... why cant she explian better

  • @honucan True.

  • im a begginer to and i under stand it

  • never mind i thought i was waching a other on this on is hard to under stand

  • @honucan look at her other videos, hers arent as clear because of how far her hands are from the camerai suggest: knitting- how to cast on- by knit67

  • I really wanted to knit a scarf for winter and this looks really easy thanks!!!

  • it's hard/

  • i agree

  • its not really good to have someone who talks with their hands teach you how to knit. all she does is wave it around.

  • What type of yarn is she using? It looks really easy to work with.

  • Thank you soooo much my mom tried to explain this to me and she made me sooo made cuz she has big hands

  • This is great I learned how to do the knit stitch I've been stuck on this part for like 20 minutes

  • Thanks, this really helped. I tried learning from a book and watching a few other videos but they went to fast. For those of you who want to know how to start from the beginning look for a video on casting on.

  • yes, you may want to make a small video showing how to do the slip knott and loops

  • IM a guy, but I have a lot of spare time and I need some gifts for this Holiday so I bought a knitting kit from ebay and some heavy weighted yarn

  • i thought that was really good actually, i do a design tech course at university and my lecturer didnt explain it this well! and she was stood right by me showing me using my own yarn and needles! that was really useful, thanks so much!
