why doesn't he just say there is a random outcome the value of which we don't know yet. howvever we can make some probabilistic statements about the possible values the outcome will be.
I've actually developed (I did this last night :)) an excel worksheet that you enter in a bike locks possible digits and slots and it will tell you how many possible unique codes can be made of that. It also works with Gold Lotto. Gold lotto is when you can choose from 45 different numbers and you need 6 of them per game. That means there are 8303765625 possible combinations that could be the absolute 6 digit correct Jackpot amount! That's a lot, more than 8 Billion!!
The main purpose that it's for is to see how many combinations are possible for a bike lock. E.g. a bike lock that goes from 0-8 and has 4 slots can make up 6561 unique combinations. That's a lot of combinations! If you want the Excel worksheet just ask me for one by sending me a Youtube email or do a reply comment on this comment and I'll get back to you :). The full version one with all the instructions is a 2007 Excel worksheet but just the calculator is for 1997-2003 excel versions :).
Very interesting! I don't need the excel sheet, but nonetheless it is an interesting project.
You may want to look into mathematical algorithms that may reduce combinations or increase first attempts when trying to choose the type of lock. For instance a traditional locker lock has imperfections that may reduce combinations. Similarly safes with pin mechanism and probabilities of what may be chosen as numbers and likely spaces between numbers (ie: two numbers side by side may not be chosen).
Also though I am not familiar in the area perhaps if there are papers/books on modeling what numbers between 0-8 are commonly thought of, or the idea that a person may be unlikely to use all 4 numbers, perhaps all 3, maybe 2 similar numbers?
Yes, that's quite more advanced.. Lol, I was just bored so I did some systematical trial-and-error tests and found the simple pattern. I'm only in year 9, I might learn about it when I get into higher years, probably in senior if anything Lol.
Keep posting man.. this takes me back to probability math in high school and now I want to pick up my math books again, and I think I just might do that... :)
thanks for the vid :)

Thanks for the video. I wish all teachers explained so clearly!

I think that this teacher is wrong??? The probability is not the outcomes of this experiment.

According to my theory there's 8 possible unique combinations for this experiment just like it says in the video :). Bye!
