The song is dedicated to all german soldiers, who died in combat. Even in present days it's used to honor kia bundeswehr-soldiers. It was played many times for soldiers died in afghanistan!
You know it bugs me how as soon as you bring up the German side of WWII people get so sensitive about it. Sure what they fought for is something that not all of us agree on but they fought for something they believed in and if it's something you believe in isn't it worth fighting for?

But the Allgemeine, or non-military ranks of the SS were mostly Party members, idiologically driven from a young age to be National Socialists.
Among these Allgemeine members were the Totenkopf, or Deathshead - which also bears the same standard, or designation as the Third SS Division, one group being kitted out for combat, the other being intended to run the Koncentrationslager, or Concentration camps.

I don't know why anyone would reenact the SS. That whole corps of the German Army is tainted by its ruthlessness and massacres of innocent civilians. If someone's specific company of SS reenactors is based on a unit that has been proven historically not to act in such a barbaric way is irrelevant. It's tainted.

The uniform question is worth asking especially when it comes down to the officers... Ours were dressed in rough and uncomfortable looking, ill fitting horrible pea green uniforms while the German officers had long rich leather trenchcoats, knee high full leather boots, peaked caps and gloves! And they had the best weaponry. Did the British army shop at Primark?
I look on this in the same way I look on those guys who reenact the civil war battles. Its just harmless fun. Its when you start to believe the Nazi ideals that I begin to worry.

At The Front militaria, Lost Battalions or Hessen antique.
*At The Front is where you can get a lot of gear/equipment for your German impression for cheap.
*And Hessen Antique has original helmets at good prices and uniforms

A great many of the courageous Heer and SS men and, yes... women, particularly those conscripted or those who volunteered after 1942 were, in fact, not 'card carrying, lapel pin wearing...' members of the National Socialist German Workers - or Nazi - Party.
Many of those who served as Waffen SS had volunteered to be part of an elite formation, plus the offering of the added sense of discipline and comaradeship beyond that offered by the Heer, or Wehrmacht, if you prefer.

hey am german... so what is the purpose of this reanactment? obviously not the outstanding actors play or the gorgeous editors job..
not all wehrmacht soldiers were nazis, thats true.
but what are these guys doing with this reanactment? glamourizing the military part of a regime that killed 6 million jews and caused a war wich killed 55 million people...
you can appreciate history in other ways than playing war and pretend to kill. these are nothing but big immature children...

your men look the part and there kit is spot on, i have 1 problem, they all look to clean a bit of dirt on face and uniform would make an exelent photo, but i guess the kit is your pride and joy and want to keep it in perfect order

Not every German even remotely shared Hitlers view of a Third Reich. Most were just farmers and so on, trying to make a living, they could have cared less about invading another country let alone trying to conquer the world. I am Jewish and I will say this about the Holocaust though, Not every German who was at those camps was directly responsible for killing people. If you had a choice to kill someone else, or be shot what would you do? I blame No One but Hitler and his commanding officers.

I don't know why anyone would reenact the SS. That whole corps of the German Army is tainted by its ruthlessness and massacres of innocent civilians. If someone's specific company of SS reenactors is based on a unit that has been proven historically not to act in such a barbaric way is irrelevant. It's tainted.

The uniform question is worth asking especially when it comes down to the officers... Ours were dressed in rough and uncomfortable looking, ill fitting horrible pea green uniforms while the German officers had long rich leather trenchcoats, knee high full leather boots, peaked caps and gloves! And they had the best weaponry. Did the British army shop at Primark?
