what i dont understand is why do the hb's and fb stand a few yards away from the position they where in another formation or something..example in the split formation they where apart and in the "i" formation they were in line ..that doesnt change anything does it??.. whats the difrence cant they just stay right where they are always ..or stand behind the tight ends just to get a little more distance faster when running??
There is no limit to throwing the ball backwards, behind the line of scrimmage or after. The ball can only be throw forwards once. If caught, it can be thrown backwards without limit.
@einherje71 You can only throw forward from behind the line of scrimmage once. You can throw the ball backwards (aka a "lateral") as many times as you want--although laterals are pretty rare anyway
Nice vid. Thanks. I'm from Europe and i dont understand all the rules. When a quarterback gets the ball, can he and his players pass the ball 10-15 times to eachother like in Rugby, or can he only throw one pass and then the attacker runs until he scores or get stopped?
@einherje71 You can lateral it as many times as you'd like. It has to be a backwards throw, behind or behind a line running through the ball and parallel to the line of scrimmage. Teams don't often do it unless its used for desperation, down by 1 score with 4 seconds to do and the length of the field. It often doesn't work. Sometimes...it does.

@joeleecorreapineda Its like that so that the half back can follow the fullback. After the line the fullback is the main blocker for the halfback.
