Neil Tennant (Ten-Inch as some British call him) was inspired by the Brixton (south London) riots of 1981 and 1985 when he and Chris Lowe wrote "Suburbia". Life in England in the 80's must've been as crazy as it was in America. BLIMEY!
This reminds me of my neighbourhood. Rottweilers and pit bulls everywhere I turn..and scally arse lads telling you to ''fuck off'' if you so much as tell em to keep the dog on a lead!!
Suburbia--where the suburbs meet utopia: an imaginary island described in Sir Thomas More's Utopia (1516) as enjoying perfection in law, politics, etc.
That's funny , the kid near the end had the same bright plaid shah safari shorts that I wore back then 20+ yrs. ago. And they're back in fashion again , thats funny to me
Stupid me- when I first heard this song, I stopped after the first minute because the intro was too long. But once I'd actually bothered to listen to the whole thing through, I didn't regret it! I think it's one of Mr. Tennant's best vocals!
Incidentally, "I want a dog" was released by, "Eighth Wonder" - a group fronted by Patsy Kensit - onto one of their albums. Word and Music by Tennent/Lowe.
Fantastic tune and fabulous song! Love it sooooo much! Never get bored listening to it ever. My fav song to date. Wish they made more songs of these kinds :(

I really should have gone out more as a kid.

Scratch that - I should have stayed in more, revising Pet Shop Boys tracks - then I'd know that Eighth Wonder didn't bloody do it.

Wasn't it I'm not Scared that Patsy sang with Eighth Wonder ?
