Today i have a S2000, remembering what these cars were about made me buy it, amazing how with modern technology the heart of the old car continued, Vtech kicks in at just over 6000 and it screams out to 9000rpm, reminds me of the old one but with a much better power to weight ratio.
A mate had one of these 25 years ago, i rebuilt the cylinders and borrowed it a few times.
The engine was built using motorcycle high rpm technologies, this was well before road cars started lightening pistons/rods and building twin cams engines.
The thing was tiny, it use to scream but in all honesty was very slow.
Today i am here looking at them and wondering what one would be like with a bridge ported rotary as a project.
They deserve a place in motoring history, very ahead of time back then
@GTRPSI awesome with a bridge port rotary, my friends dad / mum used to have 1 of these. He used to talk about it a lot with affection (he was a mechanic). When he saw my 260z though he said I should slot a V8 in it. I didn't agree with that though :). I would love one of these cars. Even if they are slow. The hard top is very rare, seen a convertible or 2 in my time, but never a hard top in person.
Ignorance is bliss, try 10500 on track constantly(tacho redline 9500) & overev to14500 too easily, no damage. Bench rev to destruct at 29000! Good oil, plugs, almost indestructable little turbine Very clever steel wet sleeves, needle big ends & ball mains, centrif. oil filter. Had to rev, no power under 5 & needed to go to 7.5 to change up. Factory even had comp. extras available. 5sp box even louder exh. drowned out V8's in pits. Wot me deaf, sorry cant hear you. How did that happen? Why nock!!
@IExposeMormonism Well, they may have rev'd to 8500 but not for long. All I remember now is they were slow, like 16-17 seconds to 60, topped out at 90 maybe. and they didn't really last that long. nothing a 1500cc hyabusa transplant wont cure. Of course an 8000RPM chevy small block sounds better. And lasts longer.
@Luke1337 No, actually I'm right, if you google the car you can get the specs, they were slow, they did rev to 9500 or so but with 60hp, so what. I think a Saab Sonnet would beat it....!
@IExposeMormonism of course they're slow with the 0.6 litre engine but they will rev 12k and higher with needle roller bearings on the crankshaft and last as long as any motorcycle engine or even longer with proper care. they were cheap for the time and they won gran turismo races within the 1000 ccm class.
and a chevy small block doing 8000 rpm will certainly not last longer, higher displacement makes higher revs more difficult to attain
@IExposeMormonism look up Jay Leno's example it's very nice. Best thing to do with these I think is a rotary or a Motorcycle engine like the Mini Coopers. :)
this video has been so great. the moment i saw this video on youtube, i was like, that's the car i need to buy and restore and finally, i did managed to buy one in malaysia.
anyways, jensen button won the grand prix. i am happy for him. even happier for him to have actually driven the honda s600.
another guy im really happy to have helped honda is aryton senna with input in the nsx project. he was also driving the merc 190e evo II back then, nice! videos on youtube

is it really hard to drop a superbike motor in one of those things?..i mean the earlier ones had a chain driven IRS.

that would be a shame, the original roller cam motor is an engineering masterpiece.
