Here is how you end evil for all times. You "say it straight out". Begin bettering the world. We can live in huts and villages. We farm for food and grow trees for lumber to build shelter and keep warm. That's all we need in life. No war, no killing, no guns, swords, spears (weapons).
You can judge a society by how it treats their own heros......he´s dead was a sad tragedy, a stupid waste, and a reflection to be made for our future, if we deserve better, lets chose better, and then let it be, let the difference make a diference.........
First, Ike wasn't even in charge of his own foreign policy. He let it be hijacked by those two Nazis pimps, the Dulles Brothers. And under the Dulles Bros. the US overthrew -- or attempted to overthrow -- democratically-elected govts in Albania, Iran, Guatemala, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia, British Guyana, while refusing to allow elections in Vietnam.
"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war."
I believe that this might be the difference that you wondered about. There is the peace that comes from fear and the knowledge that you will certainly lose any conflict. This might have been, in President Kennedy's estimation, the sort of peace that Eisenhower had sought.
"it is discouraging to read page after page of incredible allegations that American circles are preparing to unleash war on the Soviet Union"
JFK evidently did not feel he could tell the public that indeed, the Pentagon, and, specifically, General Curtis LeMay, had submitted to the President a plan for a nuclear first strike on the USSR, using the more accurate and immediately launchable Minuteman ICBMs that would be available in the autumn of 1963.
Great job in pointing out that particular passage, because as you said those "outrageous" quotes JFK found in a Soviet military manual pointed exactly to the reality of what he was wrestling with within his own National Security State at the time. One wonders who exactly he was signaling -- perhaps the JCS -- but mentioned the very policies he was resisting. And would eventually be killed over.
Obama is the anti-JFK; while G20 was going on, he disappeared, and emerged holding the office of President AND the office of Chairman of the Security Council of the UN at the same time. He is an attorney, he knows the ramifications of this.
@greenwoodtea yeah and it breaks my fucking heart to see that so few have viewed it, and whats up w/ the 10,000 vs. 2,000? how could you watch the first part and not stay to hear the rest? we are so hung up on instant gratification that i fear for my country and the world, as i have never feared before. we are fucked, politicians cannot change this, for why would they, when we refuse to demand change in a meaningful way? (four of those fingers are pointing at myself, by the way)
We sure do. I fear 2010 will be very bloody, considering that Obama -- who I fervently worked for -- seems to be turning into the anti-JFK: he can't wait to deploy, bomb, and assassinate. (And before the end of the year, perhaps invade as well.)
@ColtraneNYC wow! I was just going to ask you (based on your comment from the first part) if you still believed in all that... I guess I got my answer, huh? Its tragic, i voted for him, and i would do it again (same old same old, lesser of two evils still applies, I suppose) But, man, what talk, i mean about change and all... i'm so discouraged by this turn of events, i, at least a small part of me anyway, held such high hopes...
I think you might want to add a few rapists to your handle: Jamie Dimon, Lloyd Blankfein, Larry Summers, Timmy Geithner and the rest of Uncle O's handlers. And I say that as one who worked for Obama all through '07 & '08. In my opinion, what we have witnessed these past 18 months is by far the greatest political betrayal in US history. It's almost as if Obama main purporse was to take whatever was left of humanism in the US, and turn it into something bitter and hopeless.
@ColtraneNYC i was still extremely naive when i chose this name, sorry i've been wanting to change it, (plus my girl used to use it to, b4 we split, and i don't know what craziness her drunk ass might have said guised as me!) so, yeah, i understand that now. but thank you all the same.

"Our diplomats are instructed to avoid unnecessary irritants and purely rhetorical hostility."
What a damning indictment of current US "diplomacy" which is nothing more than base (and rather uncreative) negative rhetoric.

This gives you an idea, that even back in 60's the American president was NOT IN CHARGE. The time is almost up people.

What's the main difference in the viewpoint on peace of Eisenhower versus Kennedy?
