Erk! The basses ARE flat. Also the attack on the entry is sloppy. The basses stayed flat as the tenors entered and the whole thing was giving me bad shivers.
Ouch, ouch, ouch... the bass section gets one of the rare chances a bass section gets to start off, and they muff it by being flat. It's hard enough keeping breath control in some parts of the Cantique to sustain long enough to get to the end of the phrase without it being so SLOOOWWW! and the choir cannot pronounce French properly. Even the amateur choral society I sing with has done this better.
The one thing I do like about this performance is the addition of the oboe to the orchestration of the introduction (and the clarinet to the interlude). The published score just calls for strings.
there is an edition (I don't know for sure if it's this one) by Fauré himself that asks for double woodwinds and two french horns and piano in addition.
Song is not written this slow. I read music, I know. I sung this in high school and we were wonderful! Song was good but people were flat and the tenors at the beginning. Verbe'.... mouth is TOO rounded. not loud either!
hehe well WaffenKartoffel, I'm proud to say i am part of amadeous choir :) and marzi gary, trust me, those are not the guys, that is cus the sound is crappy unfourtunatley :/
very true...that's cos the guys (especially the basses)did not sing tall enough... in short, the choir did not do justice to the wonderful sound of the orchestra
OUCH!... i have always said i want this piece played at my memorial when i pass... i trust those planning the service will have the good sense not to select your rendition... basses... have a good time with the doorknobs..
Not the best performance i have heard, by far. There is lots of potential there. You must be more sensitive with dynamics as well as intonation! Also, pick up the tempo! The French is muddy.
It is funny to notice how a whole choir can be tone deaf! This is sooooo horrible it is funny! Everything is equal, no movement in intensity anywhere... oh well ;)
first, I'd need a choir. Second, I DID sing the Cantique. Third, if you don't HEAR how FLAT they are, you don't deserve anymore explanations, because you are ALSO tone deaf. Your question is plain stupid.
Oh dear what a disastrous performance! Too slow, too flat, too dreary. Sorry, but this amadeus chamber choir cannot be European. For a perfect version of how it should be sung, listen to the Canterbury Tradition recording by the Canterbury cathedral choir.
Sorry to be a mesery guts but this has just ruined my day!
Some mispronounced words (final 'e', such as in 'le', should be like a quick 'uh' sound, not 'ay') and, as SweetApollonia pointed out, an off-key note, but otherwise great music. This is one of my favourite sacred anthems.
omg..ewwww

This is excellent, however, I know a young choir that did slightly better than this. Then again, I'm biased :D

This has got to be the worst performance of this piece I have ever heard! It should not have been performed by this group.

That may have happened here.

Song...well aside from being too flat men in the beginning...other stuff too.
I'm doing this song in my high school choir and we're doing a pretty good job too.

This would have to be one of my favourite renditions - completely flawless in its performance. I would have paid much to witness it. Bravo.

Flawless? Apart from the fact that the tempo is too slow for my taste, the men are way too flat in the beginning.

Beautiful song, but their almost pompus professionalism gets in the way of the actual diction of the words, ruining the piece.
