This is the first I've known of this musical being remade. I used to HAVE TO watch these musicals with my parents. Now that I'm grown and my parents gone, I appreciate them more...especially those days in my youth and my parents. But I really should have done my homework instead anyway.
a good version, not as good as the original, but very good all the same. although when we did a stage performance it was even better. ( i sung the bass solo btw)
What a great time being an extra on this film. About four of my mates are in this number. Mick the Gaijin Geordie gets a run out at 1:40, when Billis throws an arm around his shoulder. Prime Muggage.
This number is light years ahead of the old movie, whatever you think about Glenn Close. They had P-400 Aircobras and painted up a goose like a PBY. This number looks like they took a week to shoot, the old movie was probably in a few hours.
The last note was such a disappointment. After the crescendo and ritardando in the final phrase, it's so much more climactic when the chorus sings the high note.
Yes these guys are singing about how horny they are, but soldiers and musicals makes me think of how Don't Ask Don't Tell applies to all this. But good song and great performance.
I thought this was a good version...even if glen close was a little older than the character.....I wish my grandma was around to see it...this was her favorite musical.
that was exactly the sentiment that was intended to permeate the book - build-up and waiting and waiting and waiting.... somewhat clever, if you think about it!
Leaps and bounds better than the scene in the '58 film...but what was with that ending...the ONLY harmony in the whole damned thing and they cut it out.

Nerd comment - the fork trucks are way out of their time! They had them back then, but not like those.

The last time Glenn Glose played a woman love interest, things didn't work out too well. She scares me.

Wow great job but the ending is just awful! In the cast recording the final note resolves as it should, but in this one we are left on edge. Too bad

When they're singing about Dames i'm presuming that doesn't include Glenn Close!! yuk!

There ain't a thing that's wrong with any man here that can't be cured by setting him near a girly womanly female feminine dame!
