Nice inside production peek ! Only one question came to mind ! Does anyone at least whistle a happy toon while creating this perfection at the Ferrari plant ?
They probably just mill the inlet ports on production engines. I think hand grinding is mainly for touching up the ports on used engines. I'd have them CNC ground on a high end block - maybe even plated.
The finish is quite rough on these, I've seen guys get better finishes casting Al at home with petrobond sand. Ferrari probably use this method for ease of assembling such complex core boxes - petrobond would fall apart. The roughness isn't an issue, all engine castings need tidying up.
Despite all the very clever chemically, resinous set sand and the amazing number of cores used in the casting,if you look carefuly though you'll notice the inlet tracts and exhaust tracts are still very rough and have casting joint marks/flash in them,to be top notch you would have to hand finish all the tracts/ports,removing all flash and sand marks, whats commonly known as "Gas flowing" or enlargening the ports by "Porting" the heads,I wonder if they do go to such lengths on a production motor.
I Love this Video and also I checked out your Channel. Very interesting! If you need any help getting this Video and your Channel exposed to were it is top in all the search I found this site called tubeviews.(net) that has took my breath away. I'm working on my 4th Channel now, this one I just made. My Videos are getting so many hits now. Check it out and keep in touch.
