sadly Playbook just doesn't have the app market apple has so many will never know how good this device is but I can't blame them people do want there apps. Hopefully if that 2.0 ever comes out it'll improve app selection on Playbook somewhat
Playbook sells for $200 at BestBuy. Apple never compromises prices. So I'm going with the Playbook as a college student who will be using this as a secondary computer device for online reading and entertainment.
Very honest and unbiased comparison. The PlayBook does some specific things better than the iPad2, but consumers will tilt towards the side of apps over a better camera unfortunately.

I am using the BBPB to make more cash this year. With a better camera+flash+SIZE I am very satisfied with my choice for the playbook. I have a PS3 and a 360 for games who needs an app for that not me! I want my cash from the flash thanks I pad your oversized unit is not for me.
Keep this in mind. The Playbook is now around £174, while the Ipad2 is still at £499 and also note, this is the Blackberry Playbook vs the Ipad (2), You should really compare the first editions of both.
i dont think this was a good review at all,he came in loving the ipad which is fine....but he was favoring the ipad even if the blackberry did a better job...just my opinion!

Well I don't think it would take long for anyone to get use to PB UI. All it needs, just go through tutorial, and all those gestures are easy to remember. As far as app concerns, I don't mind having small collection of apps as long as there are apps that serves basis needs. Unfortunately, it lacks of basis apps like video chat client, skype, decent pdf reader. But I'm fully satisfy with HW. It's quite powerful.
7" tablets look like jumbo smartphones to me. too big to carry in your pocket, too small to watch full length movies on comfortably. though these things can be had for way cheaper than an iPad which is good. But the reason why no tablet has been an iPad killer? They dont have the app store. Apps are king.
@blastofo 7" tablets can fit in your pocket or in a little tote bag. The reason for this size is to have full portability. If you went to go eat at a restaraunt and to catch up on web browsing or e-mail. Would you want a bigger or a smaller tablet?
@NoobiusTalks If i'm using a device on the go, i'd prefer an iPod touch (or for most people, their smartphone of choice). Because it fits comfortably in my pocket, and using a tablet when youre standing in line or waiting in a movie theater makes you look kinda douchey. But the $199 kindle fire looks pretty good for an entry level device.
@mrchrisince Hows the fact that its supported by Google guarantee its success and dominance in the market? Neither the Google G1 or the Nexus 1 were the iPhone killers they tried to be. And Android is an OS that has to work on a thousand different phones, which is why it will never be as reliable and integrated as iOS.

@mrchrisince You're right, the iPad is basically a large iPod touch. And thats fine, because the iPod touch is a great device too. And thats the same thing as saying, why buy a 52" HDTV? All it is is a big 19" HDTV! Better operating system and a better app store is way more important to me than hardware specs.

@mrchrisince A lot of people are buying the iPad as a desktop replacement, and they need the big screen. Certain apps, like productivity, art, and music creation apps are much better on a tablet than a pocket device. Gaming and watching videos is much better. There are also a lot of great iPad only apps too. Both have their own strengths and purposes.
@blastofo but you could buy a decent laptop cheaper than you could buy the ipad so whats the point in spending $500 on an ipad when you could get a decent laptop for $350
@mrchrisince iPad and a laptop shouldnt be compared. The iPad has waaaaay longer batter life than a high performance laptop. And laptops dont even have touch screens. And like I said, the #1 thing is Apples App Store. But the laptop is obviously better for doing real work on, MS Office type programs and such. iPad is way better for media and gaming. Both have their places.

@mrchrisince No I said a laptop and tablets shouldnt be compared. Sure the iPad should be compared to other tablets. Its my opinion that iOS devices are better than android devices. Android devices typically have stronger hardware and usually lower prices. But iOS devices win because they have better designs, the OS is more tightly integrated with the hardware (more reliable), and the apple app store is unrivaled. There are at least half a dozen apps out that let you use Flash on iOS now too.
@mrchrisince I've owned two android devices and two iOS devices. I've found iOS devices froze and crashed much less. Android has to run on hundreds of phones, iOS, less than a couple dozen. The retina display is the best looking screen for pocket devices. iOS devices screen scrolling is very smooth whereas android devices scrolling looks rough. Apple store has many great apps that Android doesnt. Way better selection. Apple devices also have better warranties and better customer service.
Playbook is already on sale in canada selling for 300$ less than the usual price! Good product though. I like how this shows that not all devices lag like I've seen on android.
It's an absurd thing to say which one is better. You just gotta know what you need. iPad is awesome for general entertainment and Playbook is awesome for extra productivity on the go, especially if you have a blackberry phone to bridge with. Especially with the new affordable prices of PB in North America most people can certainly afford both!!!
On every tablet video there are comments on the ipad, its either put on blast or used as a benchmark. Smh. Maybe if we all stfu about apple products at least for a week the hype would wear off. Publicity whether bad or good promotes a product and sways potential consumers. I bought an ipad 2. Why? I like its design, its neat. Its just a product, get over it and maybe if I didn't read about it on an asus eee pad transformer video I wouldn't have bought it. Thank you for helping me find it!
pretty confident that rim is done they seem to always be the 3rd person to the party. apple and android os are the front runners rim just cant keep up they make good products but when everyone has already bought a droid or iphone they dont have enough to lure them away
Adobe are developing flash so that it wont require a player under the new HTML standards. So at the end of the day any device that can browse the web will be able to see flash in the near future, no plug-ins required.

There's something rather depressing about the playbook. I'm glad I chose ipad 2 over it in retrospect even though I wish I had that blackberry bridge.
@ZaneArf the depressing part is the appstore plain and simple, poor selection and worse there are a lot of apps in there that are way overpriced, i dont use a lot of apps myself but even the few i do use are underwhelming.
@toocoolforu it fits inside my coat pocket just fine and easier to carry. its perfect sized, 10 inches is too big to carry efficiently and of course, larger they are, more power they drain.
@Kuruptd4life Your cell phone fits inside a pocket, the ipad fits inside my college bag. And the battery lasts 10 hours on the iPad. But some people likes a mini tablet i guess.
Playbook for the win. sorry, but i also own a ipad which was “given” to me (tyat alone speaks for itself, and i will confirm that it is useless. and the bb app store is getting better everyday.
Just don't get a PlayBook. The iPad 2 is close to the same price but better quality. I read about three reviews on the PlayBook and they all said it was decent but not the best. Just settle for iPad 2, its only starts at just $100 more than the PlayBook but its bigger and better overall.
Also, there are third party applications that can indeed run Flash on iPad, like : Puffin, Skyfire, & Photon, watching videos is lag free in full screen mode, but surfing a website that has lots of flash does lag.. Still its great if your only looking to watch videos..
I agree, the Playbook is a really nice form factor, I've personally got an iPad, and I have to say that a 9.7" can be a bit too much under certain conditions.. Also clearly the multi-tasking of the Playbook is superior.. But the iPad still provides that fluid experience that you don't find on other tablets, maybe its because of the lack of flash support.. Still an iOS device I think would be tempting to most of us, you can jailbreak and download apps games free..
@appleloveTK True, but you shouldn't have to perform an illegal act to 'pretend' to be like other tablets (ie: apps, widgets, animated wallpapers, etc.)
Both of these tablets are great, but some people use their tablets for different things. I don't see how yelling, like an immature ignorant kid "iPad 2 is overpriced!!!!!", will make things ANY better.
The iPad 2 runs iOS. The BlackBerry Playbook runs OS. Two different platforms and at times like this, it's not even fair to compare. This video is meant for entertainment, not for trolls to come and say which one they think is better. Every tech vid has this now. Wow.

@Driftuner Basically majority of videos (youtube for example) is flash based. Any video and most animation online is done either by flash or javascript. It basically depends how much you want your web browser to look exactly like on your PC and how much do you watch video and go to heavy websites online
@Driftuner online games, some websites, a lot of things than just videos. the IPAD needs wifi to enable flash effectively. Playbook has BIS and Internet Tethering if you have a good raw data plan, and wifi - only thing is using BIS and Internet tethering, its as slow as a sim card reliant net connection. Great thing is, if I know I don't need flash, I used the unlimited BIS or internet tethering. if I need it, internet tethering (with 1.5 GB) or wifi. Easy.

@blastofo why should they not be compared? and you have gone off of the subject you said ipad is better than the play book but why? the reason apple dosent support flash is because they wanted to save battery life and the playbook has an hour less in battery than the ipad they gave up flash for 1 hour its retarded!

@mrchrisince No I said a laptop and tablets shouldnt be compared. Sure the iPad should be compared to other tablets. Its my opinion that iOS devices are better than android devices. Android devices typically have stronger hardware and usually lower prices. But iOS devices win because they have better designs, the OS is more tightly integrated with the hardware (more reliable), and the apple app store is unrivaled. There are at least half a dozen apps out that let you use Flash on iOS now too.

@mrchrisince I've owned two android devices and two iOS devices. I've found iOS devices froze and crashed much less. Android has to run on hundreds of phones, iOS, less than a couple dozen. The retina display is the best looking screen for pocket devices. iOS devices screen scrolling is very smooth whereas android devices scrolling looks rough. Apple store has many great apps that Android doesnt. Way better selection. Apple devices also have better warranties and better customer service.

It's an absurd thing to say which one is better. You just gotta know what you need. iPad is awesome for general entertainment and Playbook is awesome for extra productivity on the go, especially if you have a blackberry phone to bridge with. Especially with the new affordable prices of PB in North America most people can certainly afford both!!!

On every tablet video there are comments on the ipad, its either put on blast or used as a benchmark. Smh. Maybe if we all stfu about apple products at least for a week the hype would wear off. Publicity whether bad or good promotes a product and sways potential consumers. I bought an ipad 2. Why? I like its design, its neat. Its just a product, get over it and maybe if I didn't read about it on an asus eee pad transformer video I wouldn't have bought it. Thank you for helping me find it!

Adobe are developing flash so that it wont require a player under the new HTML standards. So at the end of the day any device that can browse the web will be able to see flash in the near future, no plug-ins required.

Just don't get a PlayBook. The iPad 2 is close to the same price but better quality. I read about three reviews on the PlayBook and they all said it was decent but not the best. Just settle for iPad 2, its only starts at just $100 more than the PlayBook but its bigger and better overall.

Also, there are third party applications that can indeed run Flash on iPad, like : Puffin, Skyfire, & Photon, watching videos is lag free in full screen mode, but surfing a website that has lots of flash does lag.. Still its great if your only looking to watch videos..

I agree, the Playbook is a really nice form factor, I've personally got an iPad, and I have to say that a 9.7" can be a bit too much under certain conditions.. Also clearly the multi-tasking of the Playbook is superior.. But the iPad still provides that fluid experience that you don't find on other tablets, maybe its because of the lack of flash support.. Still an iOS device I think would be tempting to most of us, you can jailbreak and download apps games free..

Both of these tablets are great, but some people use their tablets for different things. I don't see how yelling, like an immature ignorant kid "iPad 2 is overpriced!!!!!", will make things ANY better.
The iPad 2 runs iOS. The BlackBerry Playbook runs OS. Two different platforms and at times like this, it's not even fair to compare. This video is meant for entertainment, not for trolls to come and say which one they think is better. Every tech vid has this now. Wow.

@Driftuner Basically majority of videos (youtube for example) is flash based. Any video and most animation online is done either by flash or javascript. It basically depends how much you want your web browser to look exactly like on your PC and how much do you watch video and go to heavy websites online

@Driftuner online games, some websites, a lot of things than just videos. the IPAD needs wifi to enable flash effectively. Playbook has BIS and Internet Tethering if you have a good raw data plan, and wifi - only thing is using BIS and Internet tethering, its as slow as a sim card reliant net connection. Great thing is, if I know I don't need flash, I used the unlimited BIS or internet tethering. if I need it, internet tethering (with 1.5 GB) or wifi. Easy.
