I can not believe the retardation of the people below me. Obama did NOT cut funding to the space shuttle program. The first shuttle launch was in 1981 so the old technologies are outdated. Not to mention that the shuttles cost $10 000 per pound of taxpayer money to make while European rockets only cost $4200 per pound. The next mission will be around 2014 with the Orion spacecraft which is much more cost effective and will take humans to new parts of the solar system.

Me too has followed the whole Shuttle-Program since launch of "Columbia" in 1981. It is no doubt the most effective and successful for mankind's way forward into space. I will always remember the Shuttles , I will remember the crews tragically lost and I will be thankful for thrilling and fantastic pictures on the Internet. What an effort compared to the Lunar Landing 1969 which I witnessed too on TV that night. Thank you NASA and keep moving forward! You sure will!

Today, we are in a recession, and we've been at war for the past 10 years. And the space shuttle program hasn't given us any major advancements in the past 30 yrs, so why spend billions on it?
