  • Dear Mirza assalam o alaikum there are no words to say you thanks for your exelent work . what a classic gems collection you got .I am looking for an old ghazal.I dont remember the name of singer but us ghazal kay bole kuch is tarah thay. "UNAHAIN TO RAZ E DIL KE BHE NA HONAY DE KHABER HUM NAY". I hope you must have it .Please post it &oblidge

  • Kanan Devi songs are just classic and truely spoke the heart of many Indian women -- she must be remembered for always in all indian scenes of now and of the past. She lived many years and she also spent much of her life in later years in ashram in south and did good things.

  • Kanan devi, Amirbai Karnataki and Noorjehan sang better than Lata in quality, melody, their respective uniqueness in style and depth of sur, although they sang few songs each (excluding Noorjehan's many many songs in Pakistan, where she changed her style of singing which does not appear to be of same quality and melody as compared to her songs sung in India) compared to thousands of songs (may be even more than a lakh songs by this day) sung by Lata.

  • I agree.

furthermore, Lata sang from her lips, whereas Kana, Amirbai, Noorjehan and particularly SURIAYA sang out from their heart. Lata, it seems, sang like a machine, one song after the other, practically same mannner, the older singers sang with time as no concern. What do yuou think? With all due respects to Lata, being her admirer, she did not carry the depth that Suriaya put in her songs.

  • @rkbhama Agreed. Noorjehan was unfortunate that she started singing for cheap punjabi films in Pakistan. In the beginng she got great composers Like Khawaja Khursheed Anwar, Master Inayat Hussain, Rasheed Atray and Nisar Bazmi but then, like Lata jee, she started to sing for money only and lost her quality of voice. She, like Rafi Sahab should not have moved to Pakistan. Well, this is what I think about here. I am Pakistani.

  • i AGREE TOMYOUR VIEW ABOUT NOORJEHAN, SO ALSO MR.HABIB VALI.

I ALSO AGREE ABOUT YOUR VIEW FOR LATAJI. hER EARLIER SONGS COMPOSED BY KHEMCHANDJI, NAUSHAD SHAHAB, ANIL BISWAS, C.RAMCHANDRA WERE LIKE JEMS, LATER ON SHE BECAME A SONG MACHINE IN MY VIEW. AFTERWARDS SHE SELDOM SANG BY HEART AS GEETAJI, SURAIYA.........

  • @tvwalla Mohammad Rafi never moved to Pakistan. But either way, I agree Noor Jehan should have stayed in India. It seems like those who like her post-partition songs in Pakistan (especially the cheap films) have never heard the innocence and pure quality of those pre-partition. Just look at movies like Anmol Ghadi with 'Aaja Meri Barbaad Muhabbat'. The singers from the 1900s-mid1940s were truly versatile with their voices.

  • @sbhatt88:Did you listen to her following Pakistani songs:

KEYA JANE KEYA ARMAN LE KER - Anarkali -Pakistani (1958)

Banwari chakori kare dunya se Chori chori Anarkali - PAkistani (1958)

Sada Hoon Apne Piyar ki Noor Jehan - Anarkali -Pakistani (1958)

kahan tak suno gey- Anarkali -Pakistani (1958)

BE WAFA HUM NA - Anarkali -Pakistani (1958)

JALTAY HAIN ARMAN - Anarkali -Pakistani (1958)

Dil ka Diya jalaya Main Ne -Koel (1959)

  • @sbhatt88 I am 100% in agreement with you Sir. But how can you think of other singers while listening to The Devi.

  • Kanan devi sang better than Lata in quality, curves and sweetness in her voice. Percentage of good songs of Kanan devi, Amirbai Karnataki and Noorjehan (as long as she sang in India before Noorjehan migrated to Pakistan in1947) out their respective repertoires is far far more than that of Lata.

  • u take any song of kanan devi and it is enjoyably melodious, unlike Lata. One has to select small percentage of good songs of Lata like man mohana etc. especially from late forties and fifties from tons of songs sung by Lata.

  • Admirable; ur taste Mirza G.

  • Beautiful song of Kanan Devi. from

Hospital. How does Kamni Kaushal fit in this song ? Kamni Kaushal visited Lahore twice on Kinnaird student's reunion

  • What a classic gem. Thanks Mirza Sahab.

  • Wah, Mirzaji, tusi te kamal kar ditta eh. Chahe record kitna wi purana howe, taan wi awaz di mithas kadi khatm nahin hondi. Tusi bahut wadhiya heera kadh ke lae ayeho.

  • And Mirzaji, I am also glad to see lovely Kamini Kaushal in your photo montage this time. You probably know that she was a graduate in English Literature from Kinnaird College in Lahore, your hometown.( I used to think she was from Government College , but Kinnaird is her correct alma mater). Now in her early 80s, she still acts in Indian TV serials-- or so I have learned from news articles.

  • Great collecition. Can someone post the song "hum to heiN chhoi moi" probably sung by Lata, or has this been posted already?

  • Wah! Very Nice!

  • Kanan Devi vocalising Pandit Bhushan's lyrics (on herself) under Kamal Dasgupta's baton in Hospital (1943).
