I have costocondritis for about 3 years and the pain doesnt leave me for a single day. It appeared when I was doing a chest workout at the gym with heavy weights on it and I felt my chest "shriking" and a pressure on it. I use to crack it a lot, it feels kinda better and I do some streching too and breathing techniques but still It doesnt go away. I took some heavy medications, still nothing. It feels worst when I wake up in the morning. And it hurts right in the middle of the sternum.
I have had this since I was a kid (I'm 42 now). I had 2 ekg's done when I was 16 & 32 to rule out heart problems. No one knows how painful it is unless they've had it. Taking one tiny breath can cause incredible pain. Its like gasping for small amounts of air and making that last.
@starwarsgirl1977 I like to play soccer, climb mountains and be active. But if I get Costochondritis, I cannot do anything but sit still and take anti-inflammatory tablets, laughing, sneezing and taking deep breath's seem to be the worst. My doctor told me it would begone by the time I'm 45 or so, do you still get debilitating effects from it or has it gotten milder? I think mine has gotten milder since I was teenager.
@starwarsgirl1977 Yes! I have the same problem. I've had it for over a year now but mine is an entire pain in my right breast. Is there anything you do to help it that you wouldn't mind sharing? thank you
@lilnicky47 If the pain is really bad, I will take ibuprofen. Otherwise I just stop what I'm doing. I try my best to relax and shallow breath if the pain is bad. It usually passes within 10-15 minutes. I can go months without it and then it comes out of the blue and I'll have it everyday for a week, until it goes away for a spell. Does yours last long? How does the pain come on? Mine happens from doing small things-one time it came when I leaned forward to type
@starwarsgirl1977 I dont take any meds for various reasons. Mine is just swollen all the time with a gnawing pain but if i do too much then it hurts really bad. Mine is just always here like a golf ball in my chest. After talking to someone i know and trust with my life he explained to me if u push through the pain and work it out then the cartilidge and muscle will repair.. So im trying this right now and ill be sure to let you know if it works. Thanks and take care
@starwarsgirl1977 Also what iv recently found out is a very hot bath with a lot of epsom salt helps tremendously.. have you tried taking glucosamine or chondroiton?
I also have this problem, I have now, I also have the viral chest infection, I hate costochondritis, but I like your video made me smile (laughing causes pain coughing and mucus)
I was diagnosed with this a week ago and I have had it since October 2010. Some days are better than others for me but it still hurts like hell and when it feels I can't breath that is the most frightening.
i cringed every time you had to stop and take a breath. i HATE feeling like i cant take a deep breath in - it drives me nuts... so i cant imagine how you feel with the feeling being prolonged and intensified ;o
