Driving a car is a form of big government. They flood us with regulations, ie) dictate how fast we drive. paint lines all over the road. set mandatory speed limits. traffic lights. driver license requirements.

I actually had a really good experience at the DMV a couple of weeks ago. The best I've ever had. It was clean, efficient, and friendly. They just got a new building and it is so much nicer and bigger than the old one. I also am pretty happy with the USPS. Where else can you send a 6 page letter for 44cents to anywhere in the United States? I'm not saying I agree with our big government, but I don't think taking care of the poor is a bad thing.

They probably do pay that much in taxes. The highest earners in this country pay the highest percentage of taxes. I've heard studies where about 50% of this country doesn't pay taxes due to their tax return and various tax credits. True freedom and constitutional ideas would have all Americans pay equal taxe rates and free the rich to redistribute their wealth as they see fit. Not the government.

I'd like to see some efficiency numbers on medicare. What I've heard so far implies that medicare is more efficient than private companies, if profit-margins are taken into account. And no-one even claims that medicare is an especially cost-effective single-payer system. You just need to start looking outside your borders.

I love this video but there is one thing I do not agree with.... The comment about voicemail for the homeless. Working with homeless women, men and children on a daily basis, I have been able to witness how difficult it is to find shelter (especially when you have no phone.) Waiting lists for shelters can be months long - especially if you have a family. Voicemail may be the most economical way for the government to connect the homeless (and in many cases abused) with a safe place to stay.
The current National Health Care Reform Bill is unconstitutional, for it outright takes away individual liberty and freedom as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

As for the fat people, we get advice from out doctors, we have incentives to be healthy, we get a lot of influence in that department, however as the US is home to KFC, Burger King, Mc D's, Subway, etc etc etc, all big businesses, you people get it shoved in your face and insurers make money from it.
No difference in being denied health care because you cant afford it, vs being denied health care because you can't jump through the right government hoops.

Driving a car is a form of big government. They flood us with regulations, ie) dictate how fast we drive. paint lines all over the road. set mandatory speed limits. traffic lights. driver license requirements.
In a free society these barriers should be removed and people able drive how they feel. Rural India is a great example of free market driving. No lines, speed limits, cross walks, or license requirements.
Yeah, maybe a few goats and people get hit, but thats the cost of freedom.

I actually had a really good experience at the DMV a couple of weeks ago. The best I've ever had. It was clean, efficient, and friendly. They just got a new building and it is so much nicer and bigger than the old one. I also am pretty happy with the USPS. Where else can you send a 6 page letter for 44cents to anywhere in the United States? I'm not saying I agree with our big government, but I don't think taking care of the poor is a bad thing.

Stacy, this isn't about Republican or Democrat. I believe poor people should get help as well but welfare, student loans, food stamps provide people with enough to get a better footing. I was poor growing up and I joined the military and now I'm getting a college education. There are avenues to get out of poverty if your willing. They probably do pay that much in taxes. The highest earners in this country pay the highest percentage of taxes. I've heard studies where about 50% of this country doesn't pay taxes due to their tax return and various tax credits. True freedom and constitutional ideas would have all Americans pay equal taxe rates and free the rich to redistribute their wealth as they see fit. Not the government.

I'd like to see some efficiency numbers on medicare. What I've heard so far implies that medicare is more efficient than private companies, if profit-margins are taken into account. And no-one even claims that medicare is an especially cost-effective single-payer system. You just need to start looking outside your borders.

Medicare may be less efficient than the market; that's why I'd like to see the NUMBERS
My other point was to say that other countries have more efficient governmental health-care, than your markets do. Explain, how that happened, if "nothing "government" is ever more efficent than a private business."

a local college professor decided to socialize the way tests were done in his class to prove a point. he averaged all the grades of the tests. the ones who studied were angry, the ones who were lazy were happy. when the next tests came around everyone failed because they all wanted a free ride. socialism doesn't work.

The Post Office has had Federally imposed monopoly on 1st class mail but has it gotten any better? Not in the 33 years I've been on this planet. In fact we used to get two deliveries per day so service has gone down.

I did read some estimates towards 2017 bankruptcy, but nowhere was it said what the cause is.
You have the same problem we have in Finland; an aging population. This doesn't mean that medicare is a bad option for efficient healthcare, it simply means, there are more and more people on medicare and less paying for it. It's going bankrupt, because it isn't being given enough funding.

The public option is NOT a benefit for the majority of people. It will lead to a single payer system due solely to the fact that it is impossible for the government to act both as a fair competitor and as a regulator.
Once this happens, 160 million Americans will lose the employer-based coverage that they currently enjoy in exchange for something worse offered by the government. Do you still think this option will benefit the majority?

I love this video but there is one thing I do not agree with.... The comment about voicemail for the homeless. Working with homeless women, men and children on a daily basis, I have been able to witness how difficult it is to find shelter (especially when you have no phone.) Waiting lists for shelters can be months long - especially if you have a family. Voicemail may be the most economical way for the government to connect the homeless (and in many cases abused) with a safe place to stay.

The current National Health Care Reform Bill is unconstitutional, for it outright takes away individual liberty and freedom as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
It doesn't conform to any other successful working models of Health Care used by other Nations.
It will begin with an immediate increase in taxes, but it will not begin to provide services for over 3 years from now.

Also, a large determining factor on the international rankings has to do with cost versus GDP, socialized countries game the system because they use price controls and a rationing to artificially manipulate the figures.

Well ok, yes the US has the highest car fatalaty rate in the world at 15.5 deaths per 100,000 people, however in the top 17 countries for this statistic, 9 are European, one of which is belguim with 15.4 deaths!
