I have lived in England for a few years a while back and I have also seen your own community from the inside and I can tell you that me and mine are Irish, sure we look the same and speak the same language but theres a fundamental distinction on a cultural level. I have lived in England for a few years a while back and I have also seen your own community from the inside and I can tell you that me and mine are Irish, sure we look the same and speak the same language but theres a fundamental distinction on a cultural level. Personally I dont think its about religion at all, what started the troubles was the civil rights demands of a vote, a job and decent housing. The IRA took that over and threw the province into turmoil.

Look your right, when the time comes and there is a united Ireland there will be civil war but I would say thats in the distant future and we both will be long dead so why worry about it. The main problem is is that we have 1million protestants who say they are british and want to be british and the more I see your community the more I agree, your very british in your ways. However, looking at the whole island, there are nearly 5million irish people who are irish and it can only go one way.

If there is civil war like the scale we seen in Bosnia it will be a disaster for everyone. The entire pop inc RC & Prod thro'out Ireland will suffer. The Irish economy would be devasted & if the Irish govt permitted such Yugoslavian style atrocities then it would become a pariah state. The UK would not stand idly by and allow thousands of its citizens to be killed; arms probably would be supplied plus thousands of volunteers from England & esp Scotland would arrive. The consquences are scary.

I think your going over the top. England herself realises that a united Ireland is inevitable and infact said so in a document realease to sinn fein and the IRA at the start of the 70's. The so called combatants that you have would be the only ones to start trouble and infact I would imagine most of the protestant population would most likely immigrate back to where they came from originally anyways just like the millions and millions of irish people over the decades.

Besides do you think the UK would be happy with the consquences of such a displacement of its own population when they come across the Irish sea? The answer is no. That is no option. Nothing in history is inevitable maybe one day an united ireland will occur. But its not inevitable.

Well let me explain in more detail. Protestants claim to be british but they are living in Ireland. They are decendents of English settlers and they havent intermarried with the native irish so essentially they are still the same now as they were when they first got here. So yes, if they want to be british go to britain, however if they want to be Irish then they are entitled and welcomed to stay here .

The native Irish!! There's a debate. The Celts who Irish Nationalism look too were not the original settlers of this island. Anyway the people of Northern Ireland, RC and Prod have interrmarried. What you mean in reality is that the Protestants have not been assimilated by the nationalist RC community and had their relgion and culture eroded and destroyed. Won't happen the only hope for Ireland is 2 nations and pluralism.

The Irish regiments in the UK army are the most famed. The most decorated UK soldier in WW2 was a legend called Blair Mayne from Newtownards. A film needs to be made about this man. Also many of the top WW2 British generals either came from Ireland esp Ulster or came from its stock. I have to agree with you there.

Any Catholics I know, understand that recognition of 2 nations on this island is the only way to peace. They hate the IRA & loyalists.
