Matches like this are the reason items need to be forced ON in tournaments. There needs to be some element of randomness to it.

No, I'm saying it because with it as it is, only the absolute best players have a reason to attend tournaments. Give slightly lesser players a chance, and you have larger tournaments, and larger prize pools.

Considering how tournament rules are decided by popular opinion, I'd say you're wrong. If you can't win a match based on your own skill level, then you don't deserve to win.
