I think Johnny Cash was lying. A Boy Named Sue was written many years AFTER El Paso, so Marty Robbins would hardly be in a position to say he'd write a much better song than 'Sue'...
TRUE LEGEND....I don't care what anyone says he's the greatest country western singer ever.....the voice...the style....the song writing ability....Never going to be topped as a country artist.
It really is amazing. I assume he knew he had a great song when he first recorded this, but I'm sure he had no idea how BIG it would really be. Awesome song. His signature song?
Remember the trilogy: Feleena, El Paso, and El Paso City. All three now on YouTube.
Many tvs were still black and white just as today there not all big screens or flat screens. People didnt have money for color in them thar days.I was a repairrman in those days selling used colors for 250.00 and up and all shows were not in color but that was the turnaround days ctc39 days(NORM)
in my book he was at the top of the top 40. i dont care what the powers that be said. he could sing anything. my favorite western singer. loved pride and the badge, she's just a drifter saddle tramp (my no 1) anything he sang
I was in a basement cowboy bar in Tokyo, no bigger than a subway bathroom when I spotted a Colt 45 on the wall.
As I was there as a celebrity, they let me play with it. Expecting a replica, I knew it was the real thing because it was awful heavy. I know why they call it "big iron"
Thanks for posting this montrealflickers, but that's not all of El Paso. There is a substantial piece that's not there. It's missing the part about him fleeing and then returning to be shot.
I know what you mean. But JC didnt say Marty was going to sing El Paso. He just said that Marty wrote a hit better than dont take your guns to town. Well noticed..
No the reason it happened in that order is if you listen to all of the songs they link together telling a larger story many of his songs were that way
I really liked your channel and this video. If you need any help getting this video exposed I use a site called tubeviews (dot) net It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position.
There is software im using to send atleast 30,000 text message a day advertising my online business...it is amazing. I think they have free demos to try as well.
autotextsender (dot) com and autotextmailer (dot) com
I agree with them. Marty's my all-time favorite after spending a childhood listening to my dad's albums. Now my boys, 21, 18 and 12 know all the words, too!
It is a realy great pleasure to see this great man perform,he was the best singer that ever walked among us,he was a gift of God and so at the time that God needed him in Heaven He took him up at his side to sing with the angels and where Marty can rest in peace together with his lovely woman, his woman, his wife Marizona.Thank you somuch Montreal for posting this vid.
I've waited a long time to see this clips of Marty on the Cash show. It was worth waiting for and thanks for posting it montreal. I am a bit surprised it wasn't in color however.
If this is what country still sounded like, I would still listen. Today's country is garbage.

Hearing Cash's voice always calms me down for some reason, even though he is only talking for a moment there.

Great clip. but by 1970, all the networks broadcast in color. How is it this is black and white?

Johnny Cash says Marty Robins wrote a song called "El Paso" yet, Marty sings "Big Iron"...wonder if JC was all messed up?

I don't think he messed up. El Paso was such a big, tremendous hit that he just introduced him that way.

It is El Paso, but not all of it.
Some of the parts missing:
"I caught a good one, it looke like it could run ... "
"I feel the bullet go deep in my chest ... "
The original is almost 5 minutes long. There also was an edited version released as a single.
