@mark0454 Are we watching the same video? Schulevitz said "maybe as a democratic society we want to decide to bring back some rules about what can and cannot be done one day a week." That is forced worship.
Seems to me, you are seeing everything through an SDA or non-SDA lens. Remember I didnt bring up anything SDA, you did. What about what is Biblical? The final test man must face is not going to be are you SDA or not. God is not a respector of persons. Worship in Spirit AND TRUTH is the test.
Good afternoon Sir. I appreciate your response. The gates of the city of Jerusalem were closed from the time of Nehemiah 444BC until at least 70AD. All merchandising had to be done outsided of the city and all could see who broke the sabbath. This was an edict (law) for 400 years.
Is it wrong to have a law to protect sabbathkeepers? This is not forced worship but merely facilitating the freedom to worship should you choose.
One more comment, if I may. Quite frankly, she is praising the sabbath in the same way that Seventh Day Adventist have praised the sabbath.
Is it that Seventh Day Adventists are the only one worthy of promoting the sabbath? Or is she promoting the opposite of what you hope will happen, the National Sunday Law?
Or is it, as most SDAs understand her to be speaking in code> When she says sabbath, she really means National Sunday Law.
I think we should applauder her. Bring back the sabbath
Your assertations that she is promoting the Sabbath in the same way that SDAs do is false. Schulevitz said we should bring back "rules about what can and cannot be one one day a week." The danger is not in promoting the Sabbath, it is enforcing it by law. When outward acts of religious display are mandated by force rather than by one's free will it is unacceptable by God. He wants our hearts, not empty actions. The result of these rules, will inevitably be persecution as history teaches
Good morning Sir. I hope you are well. I find these attacks against Judith Shulevitz and her book confusing. She has written a book about the return to a Jewish sabbath in which we stop all work and dedicate the day to the most important aspect of the Sabbath, our devotion to God.
She mentions Sunday only in reference to the Puritan Blue Laws and how opressive they were. She is speaking about a Saturdurday sundown to sundown sabbath. Have you read her book?
Can someone get the video clip of her on the Colbert Nation website onto youtube?!! Please, that video clip is a lot more telling of things than this clip; this clip almost seems to promote how sunday keepers can start keeping sabbath. thanks!
"Sunday is our MARK of authority...the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact." - Catholic Record of London, Ontario Sept.? 1, 1923. "The Sunday...is purely a creation of the Catholic Church." American Catholic Quarterly Review, January 1883"Sunday...It is the law of the Catholic Church alone..." American Sentinel (Catholic) June 1893. Jesus said, "But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Matt. 15:9
But when Christ completed His ministry and rose from the dead He became for Christians their REST. And everyday became a day to celebrate our salvation rest in Him by faithful works FOR HIS GLORY
The Bible says Jesus GIVES us rest (Matt 11:28), and we enter into His rest, when, in faith, we obey Him by keeping His commandments. See Heb chapter 4. His people Israel didn't believe (verse 2), and their lack of faith was shown by their disobedience (verse 6). Again He designates a day, saying in David,
"Today"(verse 6), if you hear His voice, listen to Him. Verse 7.
If they had been given rest by Jesus, there would not afterward have been spoken another day. Verse 8. There remains therefore a keeping of the Sabbath for those who follow Him. Verse 9. We rest from our works the seventh day as He did from His that first seventh day. Verse 10. "Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience." Heb 4:11
Through the Holy Spirit, Paul is telling us, warning us, pleading with us, not to fall into the same deadly pattern of lack of faith and disobedience as His people did long ago. Today, as it was then, all who enter into Jesus' rest are those who, in faith, obey Him. The Lord's Day therefore remains, do not fall in the same example of disobedience, not discerning His ways, as they did.
@AbaloneKid The Sabbath is one of the Ten Commandments. The last crisis is instigated by Satan against COMMANDMENT keepers. "And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Revelation 12:17. Jesus said, "If ye love Me, keep My commandments," and the apostle John declared, "This is the love of God that we keep His commandments." The 10 Commandments are eternal.
Sabbath has nothing to do with connecting with each other. It was originally given to Adam as a day of total rest, then codified in Mosaic law which continued TOTAL REST from labors as a religious command. Strictly speaking NOTHING WAS TO BE DONE.
But when Christ completed His ministry and rose from the dead He became for Christians their REST. And everyday became a day to celebrate our salvation rest in Him by faithful works FOR HIS GLORY.
In a perfect & sinless world, God made, blessed & sanctified the seventh day, the Lord's Day (Gen 2:2-3, Mk 2:27-28, Rev 1:10), and gave it to man as His free gift. We worship Him everyday, but He set apart one special day for Holy use.
Nowhere in scripture does Jesus (or anyone) say He is the Sabbath; we enter into His rest when, in faith, we keep His commandments. Therefore it remains as a rest for the people of God, and a memorial of our salvation experience in Him. Heb 4:1-11.
Fantastic recommendation Judith! The only problem is that presently most of the world opposes God on the SABBATH. Firstly, through the PRECISE WORDING of the fourth commandment, and secondly, through the PRECISE TIMING of the SABBATH, that is, on what day is the SABBATH. If you Judith,or others, are promoting a SUNDAY SABBATH, you are opposing God's original design and intent. For those who have the eyes to see and ears to hear search out "Repairing The Breach". "When outward acts of religious display are mandated by force rather than by one's free will it is unacceptable by God."
I have not read or heard of anything that she has said that would force worship on the sabbath.
There are plenty of people, SDAs and others, who make an outward display of worship. It is between them and God as to their spirit.
No offense, but is seems that the only permissibly acceptable type of worship is to be DICTATED by the SDA. Is that true?

What is wrong with her ideas of a sabbath rest?

Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
God does not change:
Ps 89:34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
God will not change anything that He has spoke:
Ex 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,
He went on to speak loudly the 10 Commandments to His people!
I think you misunderstand God, He saved you, now He expects you to live according to His Holy principles!
