  • that expresscard looks pretty big, will it fit in my hp dv6 6023tx?

  • @tehbig0andstuff I don't think the DV6 line of HP laptops has an ExpressCard slot. What you see on the front of the system is an SD Card slot. (-2m)

  • @JesseBAndersen

Alright. The adapter I'm looking at still has good ratings and comments saying that it's fast and works well. Like you said, sometimes we never know until we try. Thanks anyway though.

  • @JBGClassOf2013 I recommend checking the Village Instruments website for the system requirements. I'm pretty sure it mentions that the system needs the ExpressCard slot. Just double check before putting down dollars.

  • Will the express card from the ViDock work in a USB adapter?

    Thanks!

  • @JBGClassOf2013 No. USB and ExpressCard are completely different interfaces. USB is way slow, and the graphics card requires the PCI-E interface which is found int he ExpressCard slot.

  • HEy Jesse did your vidock com eon expected time?

Is there a way to track it?

  • @abovealltyler I don't recall having a tracking link for it. It just came when it came. I bet you can contact the seller ask them on the status of your order.

  • will this work with my laptop:

    Toshiba p200-178

i think it has a express port on the side?

  • @reece550 yes, no, maybe. Sometimes we can't tell if it does until we try.

  • @JesseBAndersen is it compatible with graphic cards.. like GTX 570M and GeForce 9300M GS

  • @agentyuri13 Your question isn't 100% clear. I'm assuming that you are asking if the ViDock can work when a system has mobile discrete graphics... the answer is maybe. From my experience I have had to disable the graphics chip of the laptop, and enable the graphics card in the ViDock unit. If you are wondering about SLI, then no it cannot work like that.

  • I have an alienware m15x with a nvidia gtx 240m, can I hooknthis up for playing bf3?

  • @SakarulaFG Does the M15X have an ExpressCard slot?

  • @JesseBAndersen I´ve bought the X220T. (Btw. thanks for your awesome review ! ) Can I use the ViDock 4Plus for i.ex. a ATI 6950 to play BF3 with my X220T in Full HD on high details ?

I´ve read in a forum, that the express card slot have a limited bandwith.

So it is possible, that the graphiccard is limited by the bandwith of my express card slot and I cant play BF3 ?

  • @limebulls There are ExpressCard bandwidth limits... wikipedia will give you the exact numbers. Each ViDock offers different enclosure box sizes, and power supply Watts/and cables. Technically you could get a ViDock 2, 3, 4 and use a desktop pc's power supply. So you could run any desktop graphics card you have ever wanted.

  • hey im new to this but what if i dont have a expresscard port on my laptop? will a external expresscard adapter port work with it?

  • @adriangcampbell No, it's explained in later videos.

  • @JesseBAndersen ok thank......one more question.....i however do still have my 3 year old lenovo 3000 that i dont use anymore but it does have the expresscard port......but specs arent that great with only 1gb ram .....will this do?

  • @adriangcampbell It depends on the games you want to play. Don't expect Crysis to run on that.

  • Comment removed

  • Can I run this in SLI mode with my current graphics card?

  • @Mrgamer880 I don't think so.

  • hey man will the vidock 4 run the less powerfull cards like a 75w for example ?

  • @MrCohibaboy Yes. Some compatible cards are listed at my blog.

  • Thanks for the info

    Will Vidock 4 run GTX 580 ?

and will it give me the same results as if it was runing over pc ?

  • @mralqmor1 Does the ViDock 4 provide enough Watts to power a GTX 580? If its one of the latest and more power hungry graphics cards then the ViDock 4 Plus might be what you need. Do the research before purchasing. I bet it's not the exact same because there are bandwidth limitations based on the ExpressCard slot version you may have in your laptop. Wikipedia "ExpressCard" and then compare it to "PCI-Express".

  • @mralqmor1

I just got my vidock 4 Plus and i am planning to put a gts 450 on it to my LAPTOP (Spec - I5-450m) I have no way of knowing if it works or not. So far, i find some answer that some graphic card might not work with your laptop due to BIO CPU - so you probably need to look it up. Gtx wouldn't work on GTX 580 because it has a 6pin with 8pin. While vidock 4 supports 1 6pin and vidock 4 plus supports 2 6pins, you would not be able to plug a gtx 580 due to the 8pin.

  • Does this work without plugin into an external monitor, can you play in your laptop s screen?

  • @pollopelone Personally I have not seen this. However, I have heard that some Nvidia graphics card do allow it. Google something like "ViDock with Nvidia Optimus Technology" and you should see some results at notebookreview's forums.

  • @JesseBAndersen I wonder what cpu are you running with your graphic card. Maybe tell me your laptop can help me figure out some stuff that i might find out.

  • @Trueaznninja I was using a Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet with an Intel Core i7-620LM @ 2.0Ghz 4MB L3, 1066Mhz FSB

  • @pollopelone /watch?v=CmQg9uscjFI

  • @JesseBAndren Thanks!

  • @JesseBAnderen and can a Nvdia card work with this like the GTX 570 going up to the GTX 590?

  • @s0n1c786 It depends on the ViDock version. Different ViDock's versions provide different amounts of power, if the card cannot be powered properly then it won't work. You have to make sure that the card can work with the ViDock by checking the power needs.

  • @JesseBAnderen i havent got a PCI slot, do you have any solution of getting round this, Is it possible to buy a usb adapter to get 3.0 then from there get a Usb to PCI adapter and will it work? another question which graphics card work with this and is Sli or crossfire work with this if not which Graphic Cards are Compatable thanks!

  • @s0n1c786 No. Adapters won't work.

  • Comment removed

  • this is literally £175 for a reasonably straight forward adapter. with that money you could buy an amazing graphics card.

  • @GamingBoozer you forgot to add the extra money for the rest of the system.. this way would be cheaper..

  • dose the ViDock 4 come with its own graphics card

  • @bellyzbad No. You must buy a compatible graphics card separately.

  • @bellyzbad Compatible cards are listed at my blog. Check description of the video for the link.

  • hey bro ... i have a laptop aspire 6530 with express card 54, I can used or working the vidock 4 with my port express card 54?

sorry mi writting ..i speak spanish :)

  • @mitnicos jesse replied to you, but he accidentally mentioned my name instead. check out his latest comment to my name!

  • i appreciate these videos jesse,

you have great taste in gadgetry!

  • @MrDw1ght There's always new gadgets. :)

  • @JesseBAndersen you sir, with your personal response, have earned a sub!

    as you appreciate ibm products,

you should really get your hands on an older gadget:

the IBM Model M keyboard is the greatest keyboard ever made

    and is underappreciated, imo.

you really should check it out, it's great for gaming and

how many other 22 year old computer peripherals are still usable in this day and age?

  • @MrDw1ght Some of those classic keyboards were designed to last forever! I got a few decent keyboards right now so I'm good for now.

  • Hi Jesse,

Forgive me if this info. is on your websites, as I did not find it. But will my Latitude be able to use a ViDock? (any version at all, 3, 4, 4+) Core i7 processor, 6 gigs RAM, integrated graphics card: Intel HD 3000. The laptop does have a 34mm ExpressCard slot. Again, sorry if it's a stupid question but I'm a n00b. Thanks!

  • @CRiiMSON1 The ViDOck may or may not work. You should test it out and if it works that's great. If not then return it.

  • Would the ViDock work with a USB to ExpressCard adapter as I don't have an ExpressCard built in, Thanks!

  • @iBlakeMedia No. I explain that on Vid 7 of 7

  • @JesseBAndersen Hey Jesse. What graphics card I can use using the Vidock? I have a HP Pavilion g7 with a HD Radeon 4250 Mobility, and I have a AMD II dial core P650 2.60 GHz. What do you think I could get?

  • @TheMegaOverlord14 Use the link provided in the description and find out. (I list compatible cards for each ViDock)

  • @JesseBAndersen Thanks!

  • I have Dell Latitude E6520 with i7 2720 2.20Ghz and 8GB RAM with NVIDIA NVS 4200M, I want to play Crysis 2 on high settings, and play Battlefield 3 (when it comes out) on high settings... Is my graphics card good enough? Or should I get a better graphics card??

  • @zappy7000 Google search "Crysis 2 system requirements" and the same goes for Battlefield 3.

  • I have an Inspiron 1720 with t9300 (2x 2.5ghz and 6mb cache).

When I overclock my own graphic card it runs so cool but heat kills it.

Do you think if I get this vidock 4 plus, it would be able to run anything I want providing that I get nvidia 560 or better with 1gb dedicated graphic!?

as we all say, will it be able to run crysis 2 at 1080P ultra high!?

  • @MadGamer021 Probably not Crysis 2 at 1080p ultra high. There are bandwidth limitations on the ExpressCard 1.0 port. (wikipedia it). It would do better with a system with ExpressCard 2.0

  • @JesseBAndersen so you can have a really bad laptop and have good graphics with the vidock? and do you have to have an external monitor?

  • @nazqasim Some laptops have good CPUs but shitty GPU (graphics) and that's where the ViDock can come and help out. The X201T that I showed has a very decent Core i7 CPU. If the laptop has a crappy CPU then there's not much you can do. You need an external monitor to use the ViDock.

  • Hi, my laptop hasn't got a expresscard slot, but i saw some converters from USB to ExpressCard, will that work?

    pls reply.

  • @TheNorthernFury No. It won't work because USB cannot transfer enough data.

  • @JesseBAndersen hi i just want to know what this item does for a laptop/computer?

  • @nazqasim It's basically an external graphics card system for laptops.

  • Forget price, which GPU do you recommend based on bandwidth allowance due to the PCIe slot? Also will it work on 34mm variants? Thanks!

  • @jh3496 It depends on which ExpressCard slot. There's version 1 and 2. The ViDock's connection is 34mm.

  • @JesseBAndersen How do I check? I've got a sony vaio VPCZ1. I believe it's version 1 as the laptop was released last year.

  • @jh3496 Version 2.0 launched early last year but not many companies adopted it until late 2010. One way to figure it out is by googling the CPU name. Intel usually posts if the CPU supports 1.0 or 2.0. You could also just give Sony a call and hopefully there's a competent customer service rep that can help you.

  • @JesseBAndersen They're very incomplete. Say it's 1.0 which do you recommend :). (Thanks for your help).

  • @jh3496 What is "best" is an illusion. I have a list of compatible cards for different versions of the ViDock at my blog. I recommend checking that. (Link on the description of the video).

  • @JesseBAndersen Yes I've seen that but surely a GTX 580 won't be reaching peak performance on a pcie 34mm when it's meant for at least 4X (in quad SLI)? What I meant like would a GTX560 (eg.) give the highest performance possible (due to the bandwidth limitation)? I'm not really sure but I was just wondering. I'm going to buy this along with my next laptop purchase in June. Thanks :).

  • @jh3496 Why not just get a dedicated gaming system and be done with it? Life becomes so much easier when you have to do less.

  • @JesseBAndersen No local stores with ALL of the parts, and no online shops ship to P.O. boxes (in USA) or take international credit-cards/paypal/google checkout. I can get individual parts of a site like amazon but it's MILES more expensive there.

  • @jh3496 That sucks. So what are you going to do?

  • @JesseBAndersen Probs I'll have enough money by the end of the summer, and hopefully Nvidia and AMD start their 24mm manufacturing process, I'll probably have enough money to buy their second newest release, based of current costs.

  • @jh3496 I mean 22nm*

  • @jh3496 I recommend that you figure out what you are going to do with it. One mistake that I have done before has been buying things I get for no particular purpose. If you got spare money then that's good and all, but if you have to work and save for it and then the system just sits and collects dust you will get "buyers regret". These days I know my intentions before putting down the money (or at least I like to believe that). At the end of the day you will do what you want to do. Good luck!

  • @jh3496 Lol I said incomplete, incompetent damn auto spell check :\

  • I wonder if and need a monitor to play games with Notebook

or just vidock and the notebook has the right .????

  • @FelipMorcego You need a monitor.

  • dude, do i need another monitor for Vidock to work with a laptop?

  • @GhostArmyX Yes. The ViDock requires an external monitor.

  • couldnt you zoom out alittle damn!

  • @903harman No. It's too late now to do anything about it...

  • will a nvidia geforce 9600 gso work with this, I 'm wondering if it will before I purchase one of these :P

  • @returnoftheCutlass86 I have the list of compatible cards at my blog.

  • damn bro ur a little bitch. the whole time u just complained about everything like a little girl.

  • ok what if you had a 3.0 usb drive? will it work then?

  • @xxEMC90xx I really don't know. I know that the ViDock will probably perform best with ExpressCard 2.0

  • so this is 200$ and doesnt come with any sort of graphics card?

  • @kylethemerczilla yep. Just the Vidock unit comes in the package. You have to buy the graphics card separately. Its not cheap.

  • @kylethemerczilla sadly yes. it pissed me off when i found out so i returned mine

  • Do I need another monitor or would I be able to play (once the ViDock and graphics card are installed correctly) in my laptop's screen?

  • @jacf210792 You need an external monitor.

  • @HMirzaupgraded I don't think so. The ViDock needs to use that Expresscard pci-e bus. USB 2 isn't fast enough for the amount of data required by most "hard core" graphics cards.
