  • Not in movements or facial expressions. The costumes too attempt to show how a Handel audience might have seen Julius Caesar.

We are used(now) to quite dramatic and sometimes VERY passionate productions of this opera, but I think all attempts that bring it closer to us are valid.

After nearly 30 years this may seem an unemotional production to younger members of YouTube,I still value it,especially for the quality of the singing.

    Each to their own.

  • Some pointers:~

The English National Opera always sings productions in English translations, that is their remit.

This production dates from 1984 and as such may not have aged well(I still like it).

It was an attempt to show how Handels operas might have been staged at the time of their first production.

That is why this staging amay appear unemotional. In Handels time the acting was quite basic as the singing was the most important thing, and emotions were expressed in the music.

  • Well all the music and the words were there, but what happened to the passion? What a dreary production of a wonderful opera.

  • WTF... In English?????
