  • Kind of funny to think this was the same band that did Mr.Roboto. lol

  • 45 people don't have ears

  • It's wierd I mean I love Tommy Shaw and all I loved him in Styx,Damn Yankees, His Bluegrass stuff and Shaw/Blades but Edge Of The Century is my Absolute Favorite Styx Album :D

  • love it

  • Every incarnation of Styx is fantastic. I saw them twice last year and have have tickets to see them In Feb. I have been a fan since the 70s.

Yes, they are not with de Young now. Gowen is a fantastic replacement .

The band continues to do great Styx rock and roll with leaving out De Young's pop "chick music" and give it total justice.

This is one of the best of Dennis De Young's songs. I love it!

  • Do you remember this MTV? was so nice...

  • THERE IS NO HEAVEN...ONLY HELL HERE ON EARTH, THANX GWB....AND THE REPUBLICAN/TEAPARTY/CONSERVATIVE ZEALOTS OF AMERICA..LET U ALL PERISH AND BURN IN HELL.....ASSHOLES

  • @rexrockandroll Are you really such an asshole? Oh dear you sad bastard- but Happy Christmas anyway, I hope ypur blinkers can fall soon!

  • БРИЛЯНТНА !

  • 44 people didn't like this song...despite the fact the song ended :D

  • i had to sing this in womens choir today we were so good!!

  • they just dont make music like this anymore

  • singer reminds me of Freddie Mercury

  • @VeritasSuperarachnid My humble opinion but Dennis has a better range than Mercury and is a better

singer. However, as a showman you could not beat Freddie Mercury.

  • Desblokealo en diapositivos moviles Mamao!! no se supone ke es pa'ke la gente lo vea?

  • The best song they ever made.

  • this song should be played more today because i think we all have lost our way in this world

  • i used to listen this alot in Iraq while i was counting down my time to go home

  • what year was the tune released 1990 or 1991? great song!!!!

  • @TheTarheel2011 released on late 90 early 91! I remember being in 6th grade when this was out!!!

  • @1978mtb thanks 4 heads up! big fan!!!

  • i cnt wait to sing this in choir~btw im 13 :) i love this song!!!

  • 38 dislikes... WTF

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • i do admit paradise theater was one of my fav concerts was deyoungs brainchild

  • dennis was talented but constantly took the band wrong direction. they were not ballad band they could rock with shaw and jy

  • Styx was DEFINITELY one of the most underrated bands of the 80's.

  • They're playing downtown from my house for 13 dollars in November! I'm going. Going going going.

  • One of THE BEST SONGS of all Time!! (In my humble opinion! LOL)

  • brings tears to my eyes every time!

  • this song reminds me of when i was in high school and we couldn't sing it in choir because the implications were "too christian". i <3 styx.

  • @RetardedGiraffe13 really? wow.

  • @RetardedGiraffe13 Your school's principal is retarded then.

  • @RetardedGiraffe13 What year was that? This is a BEAUTIFUL son...Period! In the mid-late 70's we sang hymns in choir!! In PUBLIC School!! WOW!

  • I love this song and have always loved Styx since I was a teen. Don't mean to sound morbid, but I want this song played at my funeral.

  • Wow? who would have known that a fanfiction would make this my new favorite song?

  • Whenever I hear this song it reminds me of when my grandfather pasted away. The best part is when I truly need to keep going with life.... this song somehow is played for me to hear. RIP grandfather

  • This is the typical auditory tripe people use to delude themselves into thinking there is hope and that heaven exists.

  • @CubanOverlord heaven hell purgatory what the fuck? sometimes you need to have faith that things will get better. if you believe they will, then you have a chance. if you dont, then jump off the bridge now!

  • thank god this no talent fuck was checked by jy and tommy

  • @cutty25 As a TRUE styx fan for 30 years, I speak for many when i say you are an idiot.

  • @1020Travis I am one of the many fans that totally agrees with you in stating that 'cutty25' is in fact an IDIOT!

  • @cutty25 R U kidding me! 'Dennis' had the most talent and class in one finger alone compared to the rest of the band!

  • @cutty25 FYI, Dennis De Young is still a great singer.

  • I love this song!! ever since i was little i have loved Styx, thanks to my dad.

  • Glorious 80's, best years of my life, bottom line.

  • Remember this song from church camp. Still love this song to this day.

  • Remember this was a Desert Storm song and He Dennis De Young was honored that it was thought of that way.

  • @swampdonkeydad you can find the remix of this song on---- Show Me The Way (Styx) - Desert Storm Mix

  • @ashlandbridge1 Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • @swampdonkeydad id like to find the version vith voice overs of new reporters and i think phil donahue

  • @compwiz878 I can only imagine what that was like. I lived through the Gulf war in 91, this song just struck Me and combined with the fact that I loved the band . makes it hard to ignore.

  • @swampdonkeydad i was 12yrs old when it first started and in 6th grade cam remember sitting in school and doing nothing but watch live tv reports all day the first 3 days of the gulf war aka desert storm . and yes we all had to take notes on the happening as we did have a pop quiz was educational but also sad times

  • @swampdonkeydad ... actually song released in 1990 .. BEFORE desert storm .. unless they had insider info about the war.. damned yankees don't even know your own history.. just syain ..

  • @misterrichard78 ,It was an UNOFFICIAL anthem of the soldiers waiting to DREOS, Dennis DeYoung made the anthem comment on the LIVE DVD, I had only heard it on the news when We watched the troops on the Aircraft coming home, I AM CANADIAN, Retired Armed Forces, Not American, But I do watch the news.

  • this song takes me back to church camp back in the late 80's early 90's.

  • Remember listening to this song eveynight in my tent in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert during Operation Desert Storm/ Shield

  • I'll admit, I didn't realize this was a Styx song (d'oh, how could I not w/ DDY's voice?) . Most of my searches for this song came up w/ the wrong song & artist. Love this song. I'm a child of the mid 70's. &, I pretty much still like 70's music. lol

  • @beehivebuckeyefornow It came out in the late 80's, but I relate with what you said.

  • @drfreud65 Actually this song is 1991. But it still is close to the 80's. I really love this song! My mom had always loved this song , and of course I loved it too after hearing it too. It gives you hope and inspiration after hearing it , it's just a great feel good song and Dennis DeYoung has AMAZING vocals!

  • 17 People need to be 'Showed The Way' Great song and video from a truly American Band! Awesome lead singer=Awesome voice!

  • I found this song touching every time I hear it, but after seeing the video I darn near ripped my heart out.

  • This song says a lot about where we are as country today...We so some great tings as a people when we really want to, but I feel like we are getting deeper in the woods and more lost everyday by continuing to follow our current leaders. We need someone to step up and show us the way back home!

  • i love this song and i will maybe make a vid of me singin ot its so good

  • Woke up this morning singing this song, and now I found it in YouTube. Thanks so much for sharing this post!! Great music from my teen years.

  • i relly love this song..... so much!! i love u luv!! mhuah imiss u a lot.

  • Takes me back 2 the days when life was so much simpler. So nostalgic! Great posting!

  • really love this song :)

  • Picture me karoaking this song at the local bar with my mom watching on her blue eyes sparkling and she clapped louder than anyone else....lost her in death in 2006...oh mommy how I miss you and the times we had BDETR

  • @theoriginalnorseguy

didnt JP die from that or was it cancer?

  • this brings tears to my eyes man...

  • @theoriginalnorseguy Oh, it sure does; that's him. If you do a google search for 'Edge of the Centurty' you'll find the album/video band members (w/ both the brothers) listed. Also his style is very basic, nothing technical. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, he lays down a very solid, un-flashy beat, and it shines through on this song.

  • @sniperin223

the ponozzo bros. ruled the stage when JP was still alive

  • @theoriginalnorseguy Yes, it is them

  • youtube.com/watch?v=tQEF_pAH6Xk Video like DaVinci Code movie trailer. Interesting comments.

  • "Every night, I say a prayer, in the hopes that there's a heaven..." Great opening line!

  • @joshuabrooks21 and great how they close with the same line

  • @ChalkBoardBathrooms Technical Error?

  • @joshuabrooks21 "is this the train to desert moon" isn't a bad one either

  • @ChalkBoardBathrooms It's just called "Desert Moon," and it's Dennis DeYoung's solo song.

  • @joshuabrooks21

yeah and "saints turn into sinners" can refer to any tim in life fron then to now

  • @Multi80sfan Indeed.

  • the best band ever

  • I remember that remix too AACOGCADET. Wish I could find it on here

  • I remember the remix version they did for the first gulf war in 1990-1991 with audio comments from congress and newscasters of that time.

  • This song have I heard for many many years in my years as a kid. Love it! Makes you look back to when you were a kid :)

  • @Newmusicsuck

brings me back to when i was 12 i guess i can kinda say i was "raised" by my big brother cause i used to hang out with him alot.

  • I remember a news clip from the 1st war with Saddam (Iraq) when the jets were rolling in, bombing multiple targets with pin-point accuracy and this song was playing in the background, KICK-ASS ! It will forever stay in my memory. DeYoung

    Rocks !

  • YouTube search: "SBC Houston Blessed Blessing" Interesting comments. youtube.com/watch?v=tQEF_pAH6Xk

  • You know, there's all types of music for all types of interests. Why do people feel the need to bash something they don't like? I'm not into rap/hip-hop but I don't sit here and bash it. Leave negative comments at the door, please. Styx was THE band for me growing up, and I have lots of wonderful memories tied in with their music. Tommy Shaw and JY rocked in the early years!

  • Look at this very interesting video. It is like The Da Vinci Code trailer video on YouTube --- Read all of the comments. It really becomes interesting after that. ---------- youtube.com/watch?v=tQEF_pAH6Xk YouTube search: "SBC Houston Blessed Blessing"

  • what kind of shitty dadrock is this crap? how can anyone muster so much bad taste to listen to this shit?

  • @elzeleza Then don't listen to it we like it 1,172 likes, it ( it's a deep song ). have a good day

  • @elzeleza how do you listen to that new shitty ass mainstream music??? i dont get the point in love drugs sex money and all that shit... this and old music is real and they dont use autotune... have a nice day god bless and lets someone "shows you the way"

  • This is my favorite Styx song

  • oh my gosh...what a beautiful song....

    thanks a lot for sharing...c",)

  • My favorite singer and song forever. I'm only 15 now and I wish I can go to DDY's concert someday. Styx is not complete without him.

  • Dennis DeYoung had an ego? Maybe so, but Tommy Shaw had one as well. At least Dennis was willing to bend a little, Tommy would not. The band is just not Styx without either one.

  • this tell & shows us that this world is messed up. Back then and now. Why can't people find it in their hearts to just live in peace with everyone. All it takes is a simple smile when u walk by someone. A simple hello even. We need not to expect the worse in everyone before knowing them. I thank the troops for fighting for our freedom, our safety. We should be there for them too. We should also always be there for our kids.No matter how old they are. We all need guidence.Even at age 100 if lucky

  • One of my favorite songs.....

  • "All the heros and Legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay"

  • I remember this song being played during Desert Storm.

  • i'm a huge styx fan. I wrote and posted a song on youtube called, " IN YOUR MIND " by andrew gerbasi feat steve morrison. Have a listen and tell me if you feel the styx influence. Cheers

    enjoy

  • This song sends chills down my back

  • Quelle belle chanson...Elle me fait frissonner à chaque fois que je l'entends!

  • evo ena full doza endorfinov ;)

  • I watch this video EVERY SINGLE DAY! Love it!!!!

  • one of the songs that i really love from styx!!!

  • Remember back when this was adopted by a war?

  • @davidjeffersontull2

When we bombed Sadam the first time....the jets rolling in dropping bombs with pin-point accuracy

  • wow

  • You said "Die"

  • If you haven't seen Dennis DeYoung perform on Broadway, you have missed one of the greatest live performers in history.

  • Dennis really has an incredible knack for telling the American story in such a pure and honest way, and sometimes scornfull! Dennis you are classic man, love ya, from canada!

  • It seems we can relate to this song more... I remembering hearing this song when I was very young on 96.5. I've seen Dennis twice solo with the music of Styx love this song.

  • Am I the only one that thinks he looks somewhat like Lindsey Buckingham?

  • Holy cow!!! I haven't heard this song in 20 years. How could I forget such an awesome song?

  • I wish I had learned sooner how to love and care like my dog, how to appreciate what we have, and how to treasure every breath next to you. How egocentric we humans can be. We care for things that are not important. We truly do not need much to be happy. So sad that we waist so much time, energy and effort in matters of no relevance. At the end, the only thing that we should do is to love everything granted to us by our dear Lord.

  • im so sad my chior decided not to sing this peoples minds are so fogged up with rap, hiphop and pop to see the true GOOD music

  • retards need to stop typing in caps, people die everyday.

  • Superb classic! Way too underrated though.

  • @Liexr 1991.

  • Great song....LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "...wash my illusion away. Show me the way, show me the way.

Give me the strength and courage to believe I will get there someday." these lyrics are timeless.

  • To my great friend Molly!Happy Birthday, you deserve a great one!

  • paradise theater was their best last album, mr roboto is cacca, I'm just glad one styx member was smart enough to become a damn yankee lol

  • @tacomonster98 lol. And one became a Broadway producer. AND... "Kilroy Was Here" was effing awesome. Period.

  • @ShawnMcVey Dennis De Young had an ego a mile wide. That is why he left the group. He thought he could do bigger and better things. Ummmmm, NOT!!!

  • @drfreud65 No. I'm pretty sure Tommy Shaw left the group because he could do "bigger and better things. Ummmmm, NOT!!!" I'm just sayin'

  • have a listen to a song called, " IN YOUR MIND " by andrew gerbasi feat steve morrison on vocals. Nice song if you have the time give it a listen and comment there if you agree with me thats its a good one. Cheers!!!

  • When I was 8 years old, I was just sitting in my dad's car, when he decided to play the live version of this song for me. He told me it was by a band called "Styx". And as the years passed, I forgot the name of the song and how it sounded. All I remembered was that they said "This one's for John".

  • @BaneOfXistence4 That would be John Pannazo, (sp?) a band member who died of AIDS.

  • @drfreud65 You're thinking of Queen's Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS in the early 1990s, John Panozzo died in '96 from alcohol poisoning. Because when the band split in '83 after Tommy quit Styx, he picked up the bottle and couldn't put it down. Styx was his life and when they split, he just went down hill. The last NEW song he recorded with Styx is on the Greatest Hits part 2 album the last two songs.

  • i remember singing a variation of this song with my chior in grade school. hopefully we can bring it back before i graduate high school. this song will definately hold a special place in my heart!

  • wow this song is deep

  • well I see that 14 people don't know good music such a shame this as happened to a powerful song they need to do some deep soul searching

  • i don't understand. if this song was a pretty big hit, then why did the label drop styx shortly after the album was released?

  • @iscoto well I know that I was mistaken on hthe timelines of it, but at a love concert it was dedicated to him. But if you just listen to the music and the melodies, the words and just the whole song itself, it is about a confused man that has some hope in the falling torn apart world,

  • love styx!! have a listen to an original called " IN YOUR MIND " by andrew gerbasi another styx fan. have a listen to his tune. sounds nice. and comment while your there and tell me if you agree. CHEERS

  • I love how on most videos the people who "accidentally" leave CAPS LOCK on are criticised and on this one they have the most votes... I think I'll vote them up myself! :]

  • I am reading some of these posts and...its funny. No one likes war but everyone loves freedom. They seem to come hand in hand. We give to one for the other. Styx may be trying to get a message politcaly but the theme is strong and true...Hope.

  • God Bless you Mike.

  • I absolutely love this song.

  • They need to stick with "come sail away" or "Mr Roboto" instead of this political crap. Bunch of weenies.

  • @fernbern0131 From now on we'll refer to them as the "Chicken Styx". It even rhymes with the Dixie Chicks.

  • @fernbern0131 If and when you have time, watch on youtube behind the music - Styx, notice in this video Tommy Shaw left the band because of Dennis taking over. Styx was about Classic heavy rock and Tommy stuck to his guns.

  • @fernbern0131 umm, its not political. it just has that sort of connotation. they wrote it as a tribute to their drummer john. if you were a real fan, you would love them no matter what they put out. its okay to not like a song, but you have to accept all of their music as who they are, like the songs or not.

and besides, i dont see you making that kind of heart melting, chart topping music. so i would say that you are the weenie for only knowing/liking their mega-hits.

  • @peDoo69 I agree with everything you've said.... except they wrote it like five or six years before John died.... in fact you can even see him drumming in the video

  • I never knew what politcal schmucks these guys were until I heard this song again nearly 20 years later. I'm glad they are defunct. Bungholes! When I was 18 I liked this song. Now I realize what a heat of political BS it is. Schmucks!

  • I remember when this was popular on the airwaves, it was dubbed the official theme to the Gulf War in Iraq. Thumbs up if you remember this era of time while listening to this song!

  • This is my new favorite song.

12 people are cold and heartless...

  • Cant wait 2 go c zem perform on the 18th.

  • Yes, that is John. This album was done when Tommy left the band. Shortly afterwards, John passed away and Tommy came back the band. Thats when Dennis had it.

  • Is that John Panozzo on drums?

  • WOW can't remember the last time I heard this one, It's been years, sounds great !

  • This is song will always be one of my faves by Styx <3 It's so beautiful :) It gives me hope whenever I hear it <3

  • skynight is an idiot . What does any of you post have to do with this song ?

  • Oh how this brings back such good memories. I was in my twenties when this song was hitting the charts hard and now I'm 49 and you know, this is music compared to some of the artists out there. The 80ies is still and will always be the best.

  • I agree with most people on here that this song does give hope to a very cruel world. If only more people listened to the words in this song,I truly believe the world would be a much better place.

  • he throws marbles to get white kids now all he needs is kfc n drops chicken down der n dem be all ova et l:B

  • I recently decided to end my life, this song...
