  • Why the Fuck is everyone saying how it didn't gain much power for the mods. The car still had the stock air box and probably a paper filter... A CAI and tune with the intake would have gotten better HP numbers with the 2 inch pulley.

I wouldn't call that potential thats called pathetic...cant even make decent power with the stock supercharger. LS motors have the most potential. If you're buying a supercharger anyways and you boost an LS....now thats a beast. A flash tune and roots blower like this mustang has on an LS would absolutely violate this mustang.

  • SVT Cobra, came with more potential from that factory than any other car before it's time. Exhaust and a supercharger swap would have yield anywhere from 500-700 hp.

  • I'm surprised they got less than 430hp after the tune and 2.8" pulley. I've seen plenty of results in the 450-460 range after those mods. Curious what went screwy here --- weather, A/F mixture, incalculables?

  • no they wouldn't have gotten 427HP. they would have gotten 419 beacause they took the 3 in pulley off and REPLACED it with the 2.8 inch so it wouldn't have added 8 hp from the 3 in pulley

  • @codip426440 they replaced the 3 inch pulley with the 2.8 inch so the 8 horsepower that the 3 inch gave it didnt matter anymore because it is not on the engine

  • @bigblock1980mustang -Sorry It's not like using one of two separate N2O systems. Since the 2,8 inch pulley is even smaller than the 3 inch you DO get all the extra power because it makes the blower spin even faster on top of what it already did with the 3 in pulley. Granted the belt was a bit shorter and therefor lighter possibly contributing a tiny bit too but thats likely insignificant.

  • do you know anythign about cars? hes simply saying its more electrical than mechanical, meaning instead of putting a bigger blower, you up the boost....now with all cars under a ECM setup, the COMPUTER is the only barrier between you getting more raw power..

  • @seroyer2 i know your post is old but i have to comment. OHV engines are the ones making 8,000 hp, not OHC engines. plus OHC engines are way more complicated with more moving parts, weigh more, and are physically larger than, say, the LS engines. plus parts are more expensive. ill stick with OHV, thanks.

  • dude i've seen these cobras walk Z06's plenty of times and ive seen vettes walk cobras too. both great cars with amazing craftmanship. They both deserve respect. I own a 01 camaro SS (same motor as the Corvette LS1) and side by side a stock cobra would walk me. Ford did an awesome job with these cars. Gonna sell my SS for one of these monsters. My guess is you either dont own a vette and your talking outtayour ass or your just another stuck up vette driver. which one of the two is it gona be?

  • so i guess you will never respect an 8,000hp top fuel or a funny car because they use BLOWERS??? just because they use blowers doesn't mean they aren't muscle cars. i love both the mustang and the corvette; there both awsome machines. and i'm pretty sure ford has chevy beat with what you call "pure muscle". ford had a concept Boss mustang with a 10ltr v8 making 855 hp and 790 lbs.-ft of tourque. 0-60 in 1.9 sec 1/4 mile in 10.55, lets see your "Z06" beat that "pure muscle".

  • notice how they added the horse power from both pulleys to the final numbers. If what they did is true, then it would only be a gain of 43 and 12 not another 8 from the other pulley they took off. so total gain is 55 hp to the stock 364 making it 419. correct me if im wrong tho.

  • Well regardless, the 2.8 inch pulley made 427 hp. The 2.8 inch added a total of 20 more hp than the stock pulley. So if you add that 20 hp plus the 43 from the tuner, you get 427 hp. So you are technically wrong

  • Yes, Ford did under-rate the BHP on the Cobras and this proves it. The stock Cobra made 364 WHP. That put the BHP at about 428.  Ford rated the BHP at 390. They short changed it by about 38 HP. For those that want to dispute my 428 BHP estimate - this is easy to calculate. Approximately 15% of BHP is lost through the drive-train, hense the lower amount of RWHP. Therefore, just divide RWHP by 85% to get BHP.

    Thus, 364/.85 = 428 BHP

  • my cobra actually dyno'ed at 373 hp at the rear wheels factory. With K/N cold air and bassani exhuast and bassani catted x it ran 426 hp rear wheels and 406 ft lbs torque, 500 hp at the motor. It was tuned by modular depot in florence Ky.

  • Just go on Ebay or Autotrader. A good Cobra with decent miles is more like 22K to 25K. Some can be had for about 18K though.

  • I paid $22,999 on ebay, it had 2059 miles on it. It is black with black top and already had a bassani catted x and bassani exhuast on it. AND YES IT IS VERY LOUD!!! even with cats. Any louder and I would replace the bassani. sounds great, very clean, very aggresive but very loud. perhaps the best system i have heard.

  • Holy heck. For about $500 you can make a Cobra put out about 425 rwhp. That's it, Cobra's are the sickest car's ever. No questions asked. You can get one for about $15k-$20k. Just wish I had the money for it.

    now if they only compromised the heavy footed U-joints with empty y-pipes behind the wiring harness it would've band clamped the composite intake by 6 in a half

  • Hope they do more shows on this Cobra. I know there's alot more power to be had with a new tune an intake. Thats why the pulley change showed lower hp gains. That beast needs more air!

  • I'm no expert on blowers or turbos, but I would have expected more that an 8 rwhp gain from an additional 3 1/2 to 4 lbs. of boost.

  • The reason is because they didn't add a aftermarket intake, or exhaust. More so the intake, the engine needs more air! Then you'll see.

  • A 02-04 z06 was rated at 405hp and it only makes around 360rwhp so the cobra probably made more like 410hp give or take a few hp. The best thing about the supercharged cobras are there so easy to mod and make large hp gains plus the motor is fully forged and the block is iron so you know nothings gonna be breaking. Ive seen 900+hp twin turbo cobras on stock internals.

  • Hypertech is crap, they should've used diablo predator or sct xcal and done a custom tune on the dyno, not just load up what the programmer came with. This is probably an old episode. Companies today sell package deals that are around the same price, but with more parts. I personally use rpmoutlet, but I'm not a salesmen, I'm just trying to help.

  • that programer only cost around 260 bucks and the pulleys were maybe another 150. guess what thats not 800 bucks and btw it was over 60 rwhp. 43 alone from the tune.
