oh hell metallica rips off everything from black sabbath to dave mustaine himself (i consider dave a part of metallica to this day, it's who they were). Now metallica writes some of my favorite music but lars' recordings generally suck.
i have this one guitar book where one idiot states that Lars Ulrich was a member of mercyful fate before joining metallica. So many things wrong with that claim.
I prefer the demo of this song from the Return of the Vampire album. There is nothing special about Lars Ulrich in my opinion.
Anyway, as far as I could tell from a KD interview - they didn't have a drummer problem. Lars was just hanging, and they decided to jam this song. Resulting in this.
I found a version of this song on frostwire where instead of singing "return of the vampire" in falsetto in the background he just makes noises. Does anyone know what cd that's from? It sounds like a demo or something
yea but lars is no john bonham thats for damn sure and he,s definitely no Keith Moon but is good in his own respect. But Keith Moon out Drummed a electric drum syntisizer three sheets to the wind.

fucking satanic, i hate bands who profest being stanic, then pepople judges you beacause u hear metal and is that FUCKING bands like mercyful fate and gorgoroth defame heavy and thrash metal.
@TheDieforme no you hear the music if you want if mercyful fate is satanic and you dont want people say that you are satanic dont hear it if you only hear it fuck all the people that says you satanic now mercyful fate is heavy metal and one of the bests but gorgoroth is not thrash is black metal and if you hear heavy mtal and thrash and you are christian just hear it dont let the people that hate your music make you a stupid moron

Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Barrimore Barlow, Jerry Mercer, or even Gil Moore are millions times better than "Lars." He is such a pushover, and so what if he started Metallica. He gets recognized because of that, but I am still waiting to see something spectacular come from Lars. Nothing remotely good comes to mind. Actually, first thing that comes to mind is Lars stealing the drum beat from Megadeth's "Go To Hell," and in the long run, stole the whole song known as "Enter Sandman."
Look, Lars' blast beats and aggressive style revolutionized the thrash metal genre. His loud, yet complex, beats revolutionized Metallica (the, currently, most popular metal band around).
@OfficialVoodoobiz Indeed, Lars played a big part in founding the entire genre of Thrash. Gotta pull you up on the blast beat comment, Lars plays high tempo beats influenced by nwobhm/ punk... BUT he doesn't blast.
if im not mistaken its because mikky dee just got fed up with King. he came back to record conspiracy cuz he needed the money and i dont think he wanted to tour with king.

ya you can definatly tell the distinctave snare and bass sond of lars' set. i dont care what any of you say lars IS the most influental drummer and the best to ver live. im not saying hes the only there are plaenty of other kik ass drummers out there.( neil pert, john bonham, phil collins) are a few
Dave Lombardo is the ultimate reference in thrash metal drumming. Lars Ulrich helped just a little, but overall, he's not a big influence on any drumming style.
hahaha. theres onl two slayer albums with good drums "south of heaven" and "world painted blood" all the other albums were just fast with not anything interesting goig on...
Keep in mind that, for the time, Lombardo's drumming was something new and rare. You can't compare that to today's standarts. And I'd put Seasons In The Abyss' drumming over South Of Heaven's.
@VOSTFR Battery, Dyers Eve, Blackened, One, FFWF, Creeping Death, and many more made Thrash Metal what it is today, the insane drumming in the songs set a path for Thrash Metal drummers. In all, Metallica would not be here without Lars and Thrash MEtal wouldnt be the brilliant force it is today without Metallica
@VOSTFR no, ulrich did the very fast double bass a year before lombardo (ride the lighning - '84 (specifically fight fire with fire, and trapped under ice), hell awaits - '85). and besides, metallica is what inspired slayer to become more extreme anyway back in '82-'83, they admitted that.
that's not true man. you may say lars isn't a great drummer. he isn't in fact. but u can tell he feels the music he plays live. He's an ok drummer, but is also a very good entertainer.
would u say lars is liek the max cavalera of drumming?? and no disrespect, i love max, greatest ever. but he has simple shit , just wondering if im right in my comparison lol

you know whats weird....i would never thought i would say somethign so stupid lol i hate lars....what was i on when i wrote that?? lol yea the cavaleras are one of the greatest things about metal. and lars....fuck him lol maybe in 5 more months it'll sound worse :P
Not for nothing but you can't mistake that trademark Ulrich snare and bass drum sound. It really brings out the sound of the song quite eerily, and I do love it as well.
Yes. The songs of the first EP NUNS HAVE NO FUN its on the The Beginning CD. It also exist a (bootleg) Split CD with the Original Cover (A nun whos get burned). The first four song are taken directly fom the Vinyl, I think, because its rough mix. The next five songs are from a band called EVIL.
The 5 songs of the Band EVIL are also great fun. For example the fifth song: Take Good Care (of Your Balls):-). Their playes some Power Metal. I have no information about the band. I think its also a Danish Band of the eighties who break up after this EP Evil's Message.
a corpse with no soul is also on "return of the vampire" 1992 album, wich has many rare songs , like those from Melissa but with different lyrics and structures
Back from the time when Lars actually had control over what he played.

What's a good drummer?
Someone who makes fast noise and kicks drum like 3 times in a sec? ..
Lars can't do it at all .. but still has a feeling of music .. ain't sayin' he's excellent, but has his own stuff ..

It's a medley of some songs on the MELISSA album and one song from the extremly rare NUNS HAVE NO FUN EP (I once saw this EP on Ebay for 500$ !)
It's a great cover.
