  • Great Canadian song by an underrated band.

  • @johnhayes3333 Yes, very underrated.

  • loving this song

  • How great are the lyrics on the song! I like all three versiions (ever hear the one on Hit Parade?). Just great to hear the song. I'm taking out "Go Figure" and "Labour Day" and cranking them up later. Thanks for posting!

  • This is not even close to the original song, ShannonVenasse. The melody is completely different on their 1988 Labour Day album, which I bought as soon as it came out. MUCH better version.

  • This album came out way before the big pomegranate fad too.

  • It's one of those songs that doesn't deserve a video: it's musically interpretive; therefor, personal.

  • This song was great. It's too bad Hootie and the Blowfish did sucha crappy cover of it.

  • WOW! They ruined this song!! The original melody was MUCH better.

  • @daphill2 this is the original song!

  • Yay they did this with GBS tonight at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto! Great fun.

  • Yeah...I was there too!!!! 2 Great Bands!!!

  • One of my very favourites!

  • I first got into this song when i was dating this lkeftist girl at McGill, all her friends hated me because I wasn't into their leftist views so this song really spoke to me. Ofcourse given the band's political views I always find it ironic

  • Saw them last night and they sang this with Great Big Sea

  • That would've been awesome! Lucky you!

  • ME TOOOOOOOO

  • Was that in Victoria? I was there, too! :)

  • Just a random 'hello' from someone in England who used to see this great band over here about 20 years ago. Bless!

  • im goin to see them in 6 days

  • In Halifax with Great Big Sea? If so, as am I.

  • a few questions 1. how old is this band 2. is this band still around 3. what are some of their #1 hits.

thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. i only heard of Spirit of the west a few months ago and I'm27 lol sad.

  • 1. 26 years

    2. Yes they are (saw John Mann sing not to long ago)

    3. This song (Political), And If Venice Is Sinking, Home for a Rest, just to name a few.

  • This song is brilliant. A Canadian classic! I can listen to this song over and over again; thank you Linda.

'There's still one teardrop in that empty bottle...isn't there?'

This song can still bring me to tears.

  • Yes, the song was from "Go Figure" - but "Faithlift" was great too!

    Easy to get facts ass-backwards.

    Great song!

  • SOTW are one of Canada's greatest bands, but never get their due. Especially amazing live, although I think they lost a bit of their punch with the departure of Linda McRae. Still amazing though.

  • Everything Everything with you and me had to be so political

  • my fav song from them, when it came out i could not get enough of it, its been a while since i heard it last, thanx for posting

  • This is not from their 1993 album "Faithlift", it's actually from their 1991 album "Go Figure".

  • ..uh...no...this version is indeed from the 1993 album. The original version is from the Go Figure album. Check it out for yourself.

  • Actually, the original version is on their 1988 album "Labour Day", but this version is found their 1991 album "Go Figure". Trust me, I'm dead serious.

  • I stand corrected. :)

  • I'm not lying; rsgb11 is.

  • @mrceleb2006 I love their song, Darkhouse. I can't find in anywhere, I'm so desperate and frustrated. it's not even on YouTube to listen to! Where would I find the download link?... anywhere but iTunes.

  • @mrceleb2006 your right.

  • @jacklyndimmer Thanks.

  • another classic by sotw. cant wait to see them live tomorrow

  • Ahhh, to be 22 again ... sigh.

  • both versions are great! Anyone who's date someone of a different political bent can relate to this song.

  • Great re-mix! I remember the original song, recorded in their living room or something like that. The original was more folk, but this kicked butt! Love it!

  • Me too! Much better than the original.

  • Rate the song, not the "video". ;-)
